5.TheLearningModule5.1 UsingLearningModulesfromtheScholarBookstore

5.1.1:TheScholarBookstorecontainsmanytypesofitemsincludingjournalarticlesandbooks.OnespecialkindofworkavailableinthebookstoreistheLearningModule.YoucanperusetheseLearningModulesforideas,deliverupdates,projectsandsurveysdirectlyintoclasseswherestudentshaveScholaraccounts.IntheScholarBookstore,differentkindsofworksareorganizedinto“Collections”,includingcollectionsoflearningmodules.“NewWorks”thathaverecentlybeenaddedtotheBookstorearehighlightedbelowthe“Collections”.

5.1.2:Withina“Collection”worksareorganizedinto“Series”suchasaccordingtotopic,texttypeand/orgradelevel.

5.1.3:ALearningModuleisaseriesofactivities/lessons,includingcuratedmaterialsuchasweblinks,videosandotheraudio-visualmaterial.Itmayalsoincludeawritingprojectandrubric.ToopenaLearningModule,selectthe“Collection”,andthenthe“Series”.Then“ViewinBrowser”.

5.1.4:Notethetwo-sidedsectionsintheLearningModule:IntheInstructor-Pacedmode,theteacherorinstructororganizesaclass(orpartofaclassorseveralclasses)tomovethroughtheactivitiesatroughlythesamepacebypostingtheLeft(Member)SidecontentdirectlyintotheactivitystreamofaCommunity.

5.1.5:OntheInstructorside,select“PostLeft-SideContenttoaCommunity”;“SelectCommunity”andchoosethespecificcommunitytowhichyouwouldliketopostthiscontent.Thenselect“Continue”.

5.1.6:Theactivityor“Update”ofcuratedwebcontentgoesintoeveryparticipant/student’sactivitystreaminthatCommunity.StudentsopenthelinkintheCommunityactivitystream,completeactivitiesandaddcomments,collaborating,andactivelybuildingandsharingideasandknowledge.

5.1.7:TheRight(Admin)Sidecontentincludesmoreinformationabouttheactivities,includingitspurposeandteachingtips.Italsoidentifiesthespecificcurriculumobjectivesandstandardsthatarebeingaddressedintheactivity.

5.1.8:TheLearningModulemayalsocontainawritingproject.Thisenablestheteachertostartawritingprojectthatincludesarubricanddeadlinesforthefeedback,revision,andpublicationphasesofthewritingproject.Whenyou“StartProject”,youwillbetakentothewizardinPublisherinordertosetduedatesforyourproject,andthenfinalizetheproject;thisisexplainedinmoredetailintheScholartutorial4.4,CreatingaProject.

5.1.9:TheLearningModulemaycontainknowledgeandinformationsurveys.YoumaypreviewthesurveyandthendistributeitdirectlyintotheactivitystreamofaCommunity.

5.1.10:OnceasurveyhasbeendistributedintoaCommunityactivitystream,studentscanopenthelinkandcompletethesurvey.Theycanalsoaddacomment,iftheywish.

5.1.11:ChecktheresultsofasurveybygoingtoPublisher=>Tools=>Survey=>SurveyTool=>FindaSurvey=>AlreadyDistributedSurveys.

5.1.12:FornewusersofScholarwehaveaspecialLearningModuleatthetopoftheBookstore,“GettingStartedinScholar”.AsstudentsuseScholarforthefirsttime,whentheyarereadytoproceedfromsteptostep,youcansendUpdatesintroducingthemaspectsoftheenvironmentrelevanttotheworktheyareabouttodo,featurebyfeature-howtointeractinCommunity,writingaworkinCreator,howtopeerreviewetc.
