Strive for perfection in love.
Jesus expands on the law that his followers knew well. As God loves all people without partiality – the bad and the good, the just and the unjust – so are all who follow him to do. Certainly this can be difficult, but it is not impossible. For by Christ’s sacrifice, we have been made children of the Fa-ther. With his help, and God’s grace, we are capa-ble of striving for the perfection in love to which we are called.
In Leviticus, the Lord declares his statutes to Moses for the Israel-ites, calling them to holiness and love. In our second reading, Paul instructs the Corinthians, calling them to holiness as temples of the Holy Spirit. In the Gospel from Matthew, Jesus preaches a new standard of love and justice, calling his followers to love their enemies.
LENTEN GUIDELINES
FASTING AND ABSTINENCE
Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all
Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. Those who are bound to fast may
take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to
maintain strength according to each one’s needs, but eating solid foods
between meals is not permitted.
Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics 14 years or older on Ash
Wednesday, Good Friday and on all Fridays of Lent.
The determination of certain days as obligatory days of penance should not be understood as limiting the occasions for
Christian penance.
Ash Wednesday Mass Schedule
Mass with distribution of ashes will be at 8:15 am; 12:10 pm; and 5:30 pm in English;
7:00 pm in Spanish.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ El signo de la cruz
Puedes hacer el signo de la cruz, y puedes hacerlo correctamente. Nada en el camino de agitar la mano
apresuradamente, de la cual nadie podría entender lo que está haciendo; no, un signo real de la cruz; Lento, grande, de la frente al pecho, y de un hombro al otro. ¿No sientes que te
lleva todo? Reúne todos los pensamientos y todos los sentimientos en este signo, ya que va de la frente al pecho; júntense juntos, ya que va de hombro a hombro. Cubre todo
tu cuerpo y alma; te recoge, Te dedica, te santifica. ¿Por qué? Porque es el signo de toda la persona y el signo de la
redención. En la cruz nuestro Señor redimió a toda la humanidad. A través de la cruz, él santifica a toda la
persona, hasta la última fibra de su ser.
Lucha por la perfección en el amor.
Jesús amplía la ley que sus seguidores conocían bien. Co-mo Dios ama a todas las personas sin parcialidad, lo malo y lo bueno, lo justo y lo injusto, también lo hacen todos los que lo siguen. Ciertamente, esto puede ser difícil, pero no es im-posible. Porque por el sacrificio de Cristo, fuimos hechos hi-jos del Padre. Con su ayuda y la gracia de Dios, somos ca-paces de luchar por la perfección en el amor al que estamos llamados.
En Levítico, el Señor declara sus estatutos a Moisés para los israelitas, llamándolos a la santidad y al amor. En nuestra segunda lectura, Pablo instruye a los corintios, llamándolos a la santidad como templos del Espíritu Santo. En el Evan-gelio de Mateo, Jesús predica un nuevo estándar de amor y justicia, llamando a sus seguidores a amar a sus enemigos.
The Sign of the Cross
You can make the sign of the cross, and you can make it rightly. Nothing in the way of hasty waving of the hand,
from which no one could understand what you are doing—no, a real sign of the cross; slow, large, from forehead to breast,
and from one shoulder to the other. Don’t you feel that it takes in the whole of you? Gather up all thoughts and all feelings
into this sign, as it goes from forehead to breast; pull yourself together, as it goes from shoulder to shoulder.
It covers the whole of you, body and soul; it gathers you up, dedicates you, sanctifies you. Why? Because it is the sign
of the whole person and the sign of redemption. On the cross our Lord redeemed all humanity. Through the cross he sancti-
fies the whole person, to the very last fiber of one’s being.
properly they must be certain that God loves them. God love you, dear children!
This is what I want to tell you…
