PAGE 2 SAINT JAMES THE APOSTLE CHURCH BULLETIN :: JANUARY 6, 2019
FROM THE PASTOR "O GOD, WHO BY THE LEADING OF A STAR DIDST MANIFEST THY ONLY-BEGOTTEN SON TO THE
PEOPLES OF THE EARTH: LEAD US, WHO KNOW THEE NOW BY FAITH, TO THY PRESENCE, WHERE WE MAY BEHOLD THY GLORY FACE TO FACE."
A Christmas sourcebook, P. 109
Today, we celebrate the FEAST OF THE EPIPHANY! Epiphany means "manifestation." This is the time Jesus is manifested or revealed to the whole world. The Magi represent the peoples of the world who revere and acknowledge that Jesus, the Son of God, has been born and shown to the entire world.
While we believe that Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah, who was born in time to reveal God's love, how do we show him to the world, or to the people we meet each day? Do we simply talk about him, which doesn't impress a lot of people?
Or is there a different and better way to show him to the world?
How about the way we live our lives, the way we speak and act with one another? Is our behavior consistent with what we believe or does it contradict what we say? To put it differently, do people we meet know that we are followers of Jesus by what we do rather than by what we say? Our example of discipleship says an awful lot of what we believe, because our actions should reveal our belief system. If we are consistent in what we believe and how we live, then we offer the world a different experience of God in our midst. It means we have taken seriously the message of Emmanuel and made it the founda-tion of our lives. As the sign of Christ on earth, we offer one another a unique and different experience of Emmanuel that reaffirms everything we are and do in the name of Jesus.
We become a reminder of hope to a world that is in desperate need of hope. As the sign of Christ on earth, the church, meaning all of us, has to show that our belief is more than just words but a call to a lifestyle that reflects the presence of Christ in each and everyone of us. This helps to make the Christ-mas Season truly one of peace, joy and a celebration of Emmanuel, who became one of us so that we might live in friendship with him and each other.
Now that the giving and receiving of gifts has passed, are we more aware that the gift given to us is the One who has given us life, sustains us with his Word and Sacrament and calls us to be that sign for each other that confirms our faith in him?
As we continue through the Christmas Season, may it truly be one that manifests the presence of Emmanuel in each of our lives as well as in the life of our parish!
HAPPY EPIPHANY!!!

THE COLD OF JANUARY AND THE POOR
The cold winds of January and the harsh weather are strong reminders that our voyage in life is never smooth and comfortable at all times. Most people are prepared to meet adverse conditions in the environment as well as in life’s journey. There are many who do not have the resources to meet the daily demands of daily living. Catholic Charities is the lifesaver for many such people. Your help is needed for our donation bin. Thank you.

We will continue to pray for and mention the names of the sick person for three weeks. After three weeks, the name will continue to be listed in the bulletin, until we receive notice otherwise. If the condition worsens, please call the Rectory so that the name can be mentioned during Mass again.
