and 5 regional airports. She oversees
the implementation of all projects
associated with the capital
improvement and operation budgets.

Shannetta Griffin is a Professional Civil Engineer
and has more than 30 years of experience in
engineering, planning, design, construction, and
program management with several major airports
in the United States. She spent 15 years of her
successful career with CDM, a global consulting,
engineering, construction and operations firm,
serving as the National Aviation Market Leader.
Born in Berkley, California, Ms. Griffin received her
formal education from the University of Toledo and
was the first African American woman to graduate
from the college of Civil Engineering. Her
professional expertise recently won her the award
of Outstanding Civil Engineer for the University of
Toledo, College of Engineering. She finds her
reward by finding ways to give back to aspiring
young engineers through career days, college
recruiting, motivational speaking, and volunteer
activities. She is also a proud member of Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Shannetta is married 25 years to her husband Rod
Sr. and the mother of two beautiful children Tierra,
22 a recent graduate of Indiana University – Kelley
School of Business , and Roderick Jr., 18 and
incoming freshman to University of Cincinnati.

Minority Engineering Program of Indianapolis (MEPI) is a non profit organization that
encourages and prepares underrepresented minority students to enter Science, Technology,
Engineering, & Math (STEM) related career fields. The students will be equipped with the
skills to succeed in today's high tech world and it will help to enhance the workforce of their

Senior Director of Planning
and Development for the
Indianapolis Airport
Authority .
In her 30 year aviation career,
Ms. Griffin has developed
experience in many areas of
transportation engineering,
planning and design and
business development.,
which include aviation
applications such as runways,
taxiways, aprons, roadways,
terminal planning, and
environmental engineering.
Projects in which she has
managed and been involved
include program
management; master
planning, construction
administration, airside
design, storm and sanitary
sewer design, deicing, storm
water management and
permitting.
Ms. Griffin’s desire to give back to the community
and to her profession is exemplified by her
mentoring and guiding students and young
engineers on the benefits of advancing in the
profession—calling on her successes and valuable
experiences that she takes pride in. She also
assists small and minority-owned businesses in
the proficiency of networking, business
development, and client satisfaction.

The program includes students from sixth thru twelfth grades. Each class size
averages approximately 25 students. Students and facilitators meet monthly to
embark on the learning experience. The program attracts students from all
economic backgrounds from public and private schools within the Indianapolis
area.
