2020-2021 School Reopening Planwww.ddtwo.org/backtoschool
July 20, 2020
A Message from Superintendent PyeIn these challenging times for our community and our school district, I want to reassure families and staff that plans to
reopen our schools are focused on providing the best learning models for our students that create a safe and productive
environment.
Please know that Dorchester School District Two’s Core Values place students first in all decisions we make. Our vision
statement promotes providing teachers and other staff members with the resources necessary to help students reach their
optimum level of learning. An in-person traditional learning situation is preferable for students and something the district
will continue to strive for; however, we cannot sacrifice health and safety in our schools. The Reopening of Schools Task
Force has developed plans that will offer families options for learning.
In developing the learning models and operational guidelines for the 2020-2021 school year, we took into consideration
the overwhelming responses to the parent and staff surveys sent out in June. Over the summer, teachers, principals,
parents, students and district staff have worked diligently to develop reopening models that are in the best interest of our
students and staff. Guidance from the State Department of Education and the South Carolina Department of Health and
Environmental Control (SCDHEC) has also been an integral part of this process. As guidelines change, we have developed
options with enough flexibility to quickly adapt to the current level of disease activity in our community and still provide the
absolute best educational opportunities for our students. We will continue to monitor COVID-19 data and remain flexible.
My appreciation to all those who have contributed to the development of these plans, and to the leadership and support
of our Board of Trustees in these efforts. Thank you for your flexibility, understanding, and patience as we continue to
refine plans to meet the needs of our students.
