2018-19 Diversity and Inclusion Report Jonathan Wickert

Senior Vice President and Provost July 1, 2019

1. Introduction Workingwithpartnersacrosscampus,theDivisionofAcademicAffairsdevelopsandimplementspoliciesandprogrammingtopromotediversityandinclusionwithinitscollegesandunits.TheOfficeoftheSeniorVicePresidentandProvost(SVPP)establishesexpectationswithinthedivision,promotesactivitiesandbestpractices,andfosterscontinuousimprovement.Thisreportsummarizesprogressduringthepastyearwithintheacademicaffairsdivision.Highlightsforcentraldivisionalprograms,andforcollegesandunits,aredescribedinSections2-5.ExpandeddescriptionscanbefoundinSection6.TheprogramsandinitiativeshighlightedinthisreportareanimportantcomponentinfosteringacultureofdiversityandinclusionatIowaState,andsupporttheuniversity’sFY2017-2022StrategicPlan,Goal4,toContinuetoenhanceandcultivatetheISUExperiencewherefaculty,staff,students,andvisitorsaresafeandfeelwelcomed,supported,included,andvaluedbytheuniversityandeachother.Theneedfortheseefforts,asevidencedincampusandnationaleventsoverthelastyear,isgreat.Whileweareproudofouraccomplishments,wealsoknowthatmorecanandshouldbedone.Wewillcontinuetoworkwithstudents,faculty,andstafftoaddressgapsandemergingneeds.

2. New Initiatives and Key Findings Theacademicdivision’sdiversityandinclusioninitiativesaddressavarietyofneeds,includingrecruiting,retention,training,andothersupportsforstudents,faculty,andstaff;curriculumchangesfordiversityrelatedcourses;co-curricularprogramsthatenhanceunderrepresentedstudents’success;andcommunitybasedprogramsthatbenefitIowansinallcornersofthestate.2.1Newinitiatives

• TheSVPPOfficeandFacultySenateco-chairedtheFacultyClimateWorkgrouptoidentifyandrecommendactionstoaddressissuesofconcernexpressedbyfacultyintheCampusClimateSurvey.TheWorkgroupidentifiedthefollowingactionitemsofhighestpriority:

o CreateandpromoteaCyforCivilityculture-shapingcampaigno Developcampuswidepolicies,guidelines,andpracticesagainstbullyingo Increaseaccesstohigh-qualitychildcareo Enhancedepartmentalinteractionsamongcolleagueso LaunchBecomingInclusive:TheEquity,Diversity,andInclusionInitiative

• MulticulturalLiaisonOfficers(MLOs)fromtheIvyCollegeofBusiness,CollegeofAgriculturalandLifeSciences,andCollegeofEngineering–incollaborationwithDeereandCompany–createdtheIowaStateUniversity/JohnDeereEmergingLeadersProgram:InterdisciplinaryUndergraduateLeadershipExperience.Theprogram,offeredtoaselectgroupofmulticulturalscholarsfromeachofthecolleges,isfocusedonprofessional/leadershipdevelopment,andculminatesinajobshadowexperienceforparticipantsatDeere’sheadquarters.

• RegionaldirectorsinCountyServicesprovidedtrainingondiversityandIowa’schangingdemographicstothe450countyISUExtensionandOutreachemployees.ThisisaccomplishedthroughcountyofficeconferencesandregionalworkshopssponsoredbyCountyServices.Thistrainingaddresseslocatingresourcesandreferencesonstateandfederalacts,laws,titles,andguidelines;completingcivilrightsaudits;andprovidingeducationandservicestodiverseaudiences.

• TheDepartmentofMathematicshasbeeninstrumentalinprovidingongoingmathsupportforstudentveteransbysupportingseveralISUVeteransCenterinitiativessuchasmathbootcamp,mathtutoring,andCalcPlatoon,apilotprograminwhichstudentsareincentivizedandreceiveadditionalcalculustutoring.

• TogetherwiththeOfficeofDiversityandInclusion,theVicePresidentforResearchbeganaprojecttoexplorefacultyinterestincreatingamoreconnectedresearchportfoliointheareasofdiversity,equityandinclusion(DEI).InitialconversationswiththeVPDIandcampusresearchersinSpring2019surfacedspecificnetworkingthemesforfurtherengagement.ContinueddiscussionsareplannedtodevelopnetworksthatextendbeyondestablishedDEIresearchers,takestepstoidentifyfundingopportunities,createadigitalpresence,andteamwithcurrentinterdisciplinaryprogramstopromotepartnershipsandexpandpursuitsininclusioninitiatives.

• TwograduatestudentsfromtheCollegeofAgricultureandLifeSciencesledeffortstocreateaCALSchapterforStudentsforCultivatingChange,anationalorganizationworkingtocreatewelcomingspacesandprogramsforLGBTQIA+youthenrolledinagriculturallyfocusedprograms.

2.2Keyfindings• ThroughtwoyearsoftheNSFS-STEM-fundedECSELScholarshipPrograminthe

DepartmentofElectricalandComputerEngineering(fall2016tofall2018),thenumberofundergraduatewomeninelectrical,computerandsoftwareengineeringhasincreasedby24%,andthenumberofracial/ethnicminoritystudentshasincreasedby25%.Theseincreasesaregreatercomparedtoanoverallincreaseof7%forallstudentsenrolledinthesedegreeprograms.

• Throughexternalfunding,theProgramforWomeninScienceandEngineeringpartneredwithCareerServicesofficesacrosscampusandtheMargaretSlossCenterforGenderEquitytooffersixAmericanAssociationofUniversityWomenSalaryNegotiationWorkshopsforover180students.Inaddition,WiSEfacilitatedtwoseminarssectionsfortheNSFfundedECSELscholarshipprogramfor54underrepresentedstudentsinElectrical,Computer,andSoftwareEngineering.

• CELTofferedtheInclusiveClassroomWorkshopoffered11timesduringFY2019,includingtotheCollegeofLiberalArtsandSciences,CollegeofVeterinaryMedicine,DepartmentofPsychology,TheatreProgram,andDepartmentofFoodScienceandHumanNutrition.Pre-andpost-workshopsurveyresponsesprovideinsightintotheknowledge,awareness,understanding,comfort,andcontributionstoinclusiveclassroomsofthefacultyparticipants.

• TheIvyCollegeofBusinesshasmadesignificantgainsinfacultygenderdiversitysince2013,rankingthirdamongIowaState’scolleges,withthehighestpercentageoffemalefacultyamongBigXIIcollegesofbusiness,andthesecondhighestpercentageamongAAUcollegesofbusiness.Threeofthefourresearchawardsgiveninthecollegethisyearwenttowomenhiredinthelastthreeyears,areflectionofthehighqualityoffacultyjoiningthecollege.

• AnexternalreviewofdiversityandinclusionprogrammingintheCollegeofVeterinaryMedicinetookplacein2019.Dr.HildaMejiaAbreu,AssociateDeanforAdmissions,StudentLife,andInclusivityatMichiganStateCollegeofVeterinaryMedicinevisitedIowaStatefortwodaystoidentifystrengths,weaknessesandpathsforwardtoincreasediversityandinclusionprogramming.

• InFY19,thelibraryimplementedtherequirementforallpermanentlibrarystafftoreporttheirdiversity,equity,andinclusion(DEI)activitiesontheirannualreviewmaterials,alongwiththerequirementthatstaffsupervisorswillcommentonemployeediversity,equity,andinclusionactivitiesintheirsupervisoryreviews.ThischangeemphasizesthatDEIworkispartofeveryone’sworkresponsibilities.

• ISUExtensionandOutreachAgricultureandNaturalResourcesstaffprovidetrainingtodiverseaudiencesthroughoutthestate,includinghorticulturalprogrammingforAmish,Chinese,andincarceratedpopulations;programminginSpanishforDairyFarmemployees;andfoodsafetytrainingthatenablesdiversefarmerstoselltheirproductsatfarmersmarkets.

• MLOsfromeachofIowaState’sacademiccollegescoordinatedandfacilitatedthePopUpShopforstudentstoobtainprofessional/businessattireforcareerfairs,conferences,andjobinterviews;monthlystudysessionstoprovideasupportiveacademicenvironment;andmonthlyprofessionaldevelopmentworkshops.

Highlights – Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost 3.1 Faculty Senate TheSVPPofficeworkscloselywithIowaState’sFacultySenateonavarietyofinitiativesrelatedtodiversityandinclusion,includingtheSenate’sEquity,Diversity,andInclusionCommittee.TheSVPPandSenateco-chairedtheFacultyClimateWorkgrouptoidentifyandtakeactiononissuesofconcernexpressedbyfacultyintherecentCampusClimateSurvey.TheSenatealsocontinueditsreviewofIowaState’sU.S.Diversity/InternationalPerspectivescoursesinFY19.3.2 ISU ADVANCE TheSVPPofficehostsandsupportstheISUADVANCEprogram.ThroughISUADVANCE,appointedequityadvisorsineachcollegeworkwiththeirrespectivedeans,diversitycommittees,departmentchairs,andfacultytoimplementbestpracticesforfacultysearches,andtransformpoliciesandpracticesthathelpfacultysucceed.ISUADVANCEworkstorecruit,retain,andadvancewomenandscholarsofcolorinfacultypositions.Theprogramidentifiescultures,practicesandstructuresthatenhanceorhinderthecareersofISUfaculty,andworkswithfacultyandadministratorstopursueadiverseandvibrantfacultyinallacademicdisciplines.ISUADVANCEalsocoordinatesaDepartmentEnhancementProgramthatworkswithfacultyinidentifieddepartmentstotransformdepartmentalcultures(views,attitudes,norms,andsharedbeliefs)andstructures(physicalandsocialarrangements).FourdepartmentswentthroughthisprograminFY19(Economics,GreenleeSchoolofJournalismandCommunication,Horticulture,UniversityLibrary),andfouradditionaldepartmentsareplannedforFY20.3.3 National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD) IowaStateholdsaninstitutionalmembershipinNCFDD,opentoallfaculty,instructionalstaff,graduatestudentsandpostdocs.TheNCFDDisanindependentprofessionaldevelopment,training,andmentoringcommunitythatoffersweb-basedservices,includingfacilitatedlearningcommunities,coretrainingandguestexpertworkshops,andaprivatepeermentoringforumtosupportthecareersuccessofdiversefaculty.3.4 Faculty professional development programs TheSVPPofficeoffersnumerousprofessionaldevelopmentprogramsfornewfaculty,forcontinuingfaculty,andforacademicdepartmentchairs.Manyofthoseprogramsincludediversityandinclusioncomponents.NewFacultyOrientation,forinstance,addressestheimportanceofdiversityandinclusion,andsetsanearlyexpectationforfacultywithregardtotheirteaching,researchandservice.Departmentchairtrainingprogramsaddressequityinpromotionandtenuredecisions,aswellasbestpracticesforfacultyhiringandsearchcommitteestoensurediversecandidatepoolsandbestpracticesintheevaluationandrecruitingofcandidates.Asaresultoftheseefforts,IowaStatecontinuestohavesuccessadvancingfemalefacultyandfacultyofcolorthroughthepromotionandtenureprocess,aswellasinitiativestopromotetermfaculty.

3.5 Program for Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) WiSEoffersprogrammingandsupporttoincreasethenumberofwomeninSTEMfields,andtheiracademicsuccess.Theprogramsupportsstudentsinfouracademiccollegesandmorethan50STEMmajorsthroughlearningcommunities,academicsupport,scholarships,leadershipandpersonaldevelopment.Throughexternalfunding,WiSEpartneredwithCareerServicesofficesacrosscampusandtheMargaretSlossCenterforGenderEquitytooffersixAAUWSalaryNegotiationWorkshopsforover180students.Inaddition,WiSEfacilitatedtwoseminarssectionsfortheNSFfundedECSELscholarshipprogramfor54underrepresentedstudentsinElectrical,Computer,andSoftwareEngineering.Finally,WiSEreachesover15,000K-12studentsannuallythroughitssignatureoutreachprograms:STEMFest,TakingtheRoadLessTraveled,andStudentRoleModelProgram. 3.6 University Lectures Program In2018-19,IowaState’sLecturesProgramhostedandcosponsoredmanyspeakersandeventsthataddressedtopicsrelatedtodiversityandinclusion,including:

TheLecturesProgramalsobeganprovidingcaptioningoratranscriptforeveryrecordedlectureoreventtoincreaseaccessibilityoptions.3.7 George Washington Carver Academy TheSVPPofficeprovidesfinancialsupportfortheprofessor-in-chargeoftheCarverAcademy,aprogramwithinMulticulturalStudentAffairsthatprovidesfull-tuitionscholarshipstohighpotentialmulticulturalfirst-yearstudents.3.8 University Honors Program TheHonorsPrograminitiatedseveralnewrecruitmentstrategiesinFY2017-2018thatwereexplicitlyfocusedonincreasingminorityenrollmentintheprogram.Theseeffortshaveresultedinanincreaseofminoritystudentenrollment,includinganincreaseof29%inthefirstyear,andtheycontinuetobeexpanded.HonorsalsoinvolvestheOfficeoftheVicePresidentforDiversityandInclusioninitsprogramming,encouragingcampusprofessionalstospeaktofirst-yearHonorsclassesontheimportanceofdevelopingawelcomingcampusenvironment.

3.9 Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) CELT,reportingtotheOfficeoftheSVPP,continuestopromoteteachinginclusivelythroughprograms,conferencepresentations,andbyprovidingextensiveonlineresources.CELTalsocontinuestoactivelyengageindiversityandinclusioninitiativesoncampus.

• CELTofferedtheInclusiveClassroomWorkshopoffered11timesduringFY2019,includingtotheCollegeofLiberalArtsandSciences,CollegeofVeterinaryMedicine,DepartmentofPsychology,TheatreProgram,andDepartmentofFoodScienceandHumanNutrition.Pre-andpost-workshopsurveyresponsesprovideinsightintotheknowledge,awareness,understanding,comfort,andcontributionstoinclusiveclassroomsofthefacultyparticipants.

• Workshopsonteachinginclusivelywereofferedin-personandonlineviaZoomeachsemester.ThesetopicsandresourcesweredevelopedfromInclusiveClassroomWorkshopdiscussionswithfacultyandstaff,including:top10tipsforcreatinganaccessiblecourse,andbuildinganinclusiveandlearner-centeredsyllabus.CELTstaffalsodevelopedtwonewworkshops/resourcesbasedonparticipantfeedback:exploringwaystocreateawelcominglearningenvironment,andnavigatingcontroversialtopicsintheclassroom.

• CELThostedanaccessibilityawarenessweekculminatingwithstafffromISUExtensionandOutreachsharingtheiraccessibilityjourney.

• CELTstaffcontributesasactivemembersofnumerousuniversitycommittees,includingtheVPDICouncil,UniversityCommitteeonAccessibility,andDigitalAccessCommittee.StaffalsohaveleadershiprolesontheNCORE-ISCOREProjectLeadershipTeam,andtheadvisoryboardfortheNSFAlliancesforGraduateEducationandtheProfessoriateGraduateInclusionWorkshop.

3.10 Study Abroad Center TheStudyAbroadCenterrecruitedmulticulturalstudentsforstudyabroadopportunitiesthroughclassroompresentationstoallfirst-yearMVPandGWCscholarsaswellasmulticulturalstudentgroups.Thiseffortincludedworkingwiththestaffthatsupportthesegroupstodevelopmoreeffectiverelationships,andadoptingamoreintentionalapproachinshowingdiversityintheCenter’spublications(e.g.brochures,webpages,andposters).TheCenteralsomadeaconcertedefforttopublicize,recruit,andsupporteligiblestudentstoapplyforaBenjaminA.GilmanInternationalScholarship.TheGilmanScholarship,sponsoredbytheU.S.DepartmentofState,awardsupto$5,000toPell-eligiblestudentstoparticipateinstudyabroadprograms.ThreeIowaStatestudentsadvisedbytheStudyAbroadCenterwerechosenforthescholarshipinFY2019.

4. Highlights – Academic Colleges 4.1 College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

• CALSgraduatestudentsJacobYarianandMarcusJansenledeffortstocreateaCALSchapterforStudentsforCultivatingChange,anationalorganizationworkingtocreatewelcomingspacesandprogramsforLGBTQIA+youthenrolledinagriculturallyfocusedprograms.

• TheDepartmentofFoodScienceandHumanNutritionsuccessfullyrenewed—forthefourthtime—agrantfromtheUSDANIFAHigherEducationMulticulturalScholarsProgramforitsCycloneScholarProgram.Theprogramsupports,overfouryears,acohortofundergraduatestudentsenrolledinthedepartment’smajors.ThelatestgrantbringsthetotalfundsreceivedforCycloneScholarsto$760,000;19studentshavebenefited.Thenewcohortwillbeginclassesinfall2019.Thedepartmentalsohasasummerresearchexperienceformulticulturalstudents,fundedbya$275,760grantfromtheUSDANIFAAFRIEducationandWorkforceDevelopmentProgram,ResearchandExtensionExperiencesforUndergraduatesProgram.Thesummerprogram,overthreeyears,hasbroughtnearly30studentstoISUfromotheruniversities,topromotegraduateschool,engageininterdisciplinaryresearchandexposethemtocareeropportunitiesinresearch,extension,industryandcommunityservice.

4.2 College of Business

• Inthefallof2013,wesetagoalofincreasingLatino/a/xstudentsfromunder3%ofourenrollmentthatyearto5%.Inthefallof2018,ourLatino/a/xenrollmentgrew9%bringingthemtothatgoalat5.1%ofourenrollment.Wehaveresetourgoalto8%ofourenrollment.

• Thecollegehasmadesignificantgainsinfacultygenderdiversitysince2013,rankingthirdamongIowaState’scolleges,withthehighestpercentageoffemalefacultyamongBigXIIcollegesofbusiness,andthesecondhighestpercentageamongAAUcollegesofbusiness.Threeofthefourresearchawardsgiveninthecollegethisyearwenttowomenhiredinthelastthreeyears,areflectionofthehighqualityoffacultyjoiningthecollege.

4.3 College of Design

• Thecollege’sMulticulturalLiaisonOfficerworkedwithdepartmentchairstocreatingdepartment-specifictrainingandworkshopsthatwillbeofferedseveraltimesoverthenextacademicyear.Theworkshopswilladdressinclusiveteachingpedagogy,implicitbias,explicitbias,identitydevelopment,andrespondingtobiasrelatedincidentsintheclassroom.Theseeffortscontinuetheworkofthe2018ProfessionalLearningCommunityonDiversity.

• Duringsummer2019,sevenCollegeofDesignstudentsparticipatedinanimmersivelearningexperiencewiththemembersofthelocalcraftsector,andtheCenterforSustainableRuralLivelihoods(CSRL),inKumali,Uganda.ThestudentsworkedalongsideUgandanpeersandlocalartisanstoperformacommunityassessmentregardinghowdesigncouldcontributetotheirlivelihood,economy,andenvironment;andinvestigatedavailableskillsetsandmaterialsinthecraftsector;amongotheroutcomes.

4.4 College of Engineering • TheDepartmentofAerospaceEngineeringlaunchedanNSF-REUsitetitled:

LAUNCH-UASprogram(LaunchingAerospace’sUnderrepresentedStudentsintotheNextChapter-UnmannedAerialSystems).Thegoaloftheprogramistopromotegreaterparticipationofunderrepresentedstudentsinaerospaceengineeringgraduateprograms.Additionalinformationcanbefoundathttps://www.aere.iastate.edu/launchuas/.

• ThroughtwoyearsoftheNSFS-STEM-fundedECSELScholarshipProgramintheDepartmentofElectricalandComputerEngineering(fall2016tofall2018),thenumberofundergraduatewomeninelectrical,computerandsoftwareengineeringhasincreasedby24%,andthenumberofracial/ethnicminoritystudentshasincreasedby25%.Theseincreasesaregreatercomparedtoanoverallincreaseof7%forallstudentsenrolledinthesedegreeprograms.

4.5 College of Human Sciences

• Withtheassistanceofaninternalgrant,theSchoolofEducationimplementedanddeliveredHSci250:IntergroupRelationsinspring2019.Thecourse,developedbytheUniversityofMichigan,isintendedtobea3-creditfollow-uptoHSci150:DialoguesonDiversityforstudentswhowanttomorefullydevelopandpracticeskillsrelatedtocommunicationacrossdifference.AsinglesectionwasofferedasapilotinSpring2019withmoresectionsplannedfortheFY2020academicyear.

• Thecollegewasacollaboratorforthemilitaryfamiliessymposium,“BuildingAwareness:TheMilitaryCommunityandISUExtensionandOutreach”inMay,bringingawarenesstotheprogramsandresourcesavailabletoVeterans,theirfamiliesandcommunities.ISUExtensionandOutreach,andHumanSciencesExtensionandOutreachinparticular,arepositionedtoprovidecomprehensivesupportandprogrammingtomilitaryfamilies.

4.6 College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

• TheDepartmentofMathematicscompletedtheirfirstsuccessfulyearwithanewpostbaccalaureateprogram.Theinitiativeextendsmoreopportunitiesintoadvancedmathematicsforunderrepresentedgroups.ThefirstcohortofsixstudentscompletedtheprograminMay2019,andallwereacceptedintograduateprogramsforfall2019,includingtwoatISUandonewhowillpursueaPh.D.attheUniversityofCambridge.

• InFY19,thelibraryimplementedtherequirementforallpermanentlibrarystafftoreporttheirdiversity,equity,andinclusion(DEI)activitiesontheirannualreviewmaterials,alongwiththerequirementthatstaffsupervisorswillcommentonemployeediversity,equity,andinclusionactivitiesintheirsupervisoryreviews.ThischangeemphasizesthatDEIworkispartofeveryone’sworkresponsibilities.

• FiveDEIlearningsessionsfeaturinglocalorregionalspeakerswerebroughttotheUniversityLibraryduringFY19.Threeofthesesessionswereintendedforalllibrarystaff.DeanBethMcNeilemphasizedtoalllibrarystaffthatattendancewasstronglyencouragedandexpected.TwoadditionalDEIsessionsweredevelopedforspecificlibraryunitsandtargetedtopicsrelevanttotheirwork,thoughinsomecasesstafffromotherunitscouldattendifinterested.Attendancewasstrongandlearningoutcomespositiveforthesesessions.

7.2 Ivy College of Business

• Thecollegehasgrownitsmulticulturalenrollment,from13.3%ofstudentsinFY2018to13.8%inFY2019.

• Inthefallof2013,wesetagoalofincreasingLatino/a/xstudentsfromunder3%ofourenrollmentthatyearto5%.Inthefallof2018,ourLatino/a/xenrollmentgrew9%bringingthemtothatgoalat5.1%ofourenrollment.Wehaveresetourgoalto8%ofourenrollment.

• Thecollegehasmadesignificantgainsinfacultygenderdiversitysince2013,rankingthirdamongIowaState’scolleges,withthehighestpercentageoffemalefacultyamongBigXIIcollegesofbusiness,andthesecondhighestpercentageamongAAUcollegesofbusiness.Threeofthefourresearchawardsgiveninthecollegethisyearwenttowomenhiredinthelastthreeyears,areflectionofthehighqualityoffacultyjoiningthecollege.

• TheIvyCollegeenrolled1,605womeninFY2019;whileadecreaseof9studentsfromFY2018,itrepresentsthecollege’sthirdhighestnumberofwomenstudentsever,andisup15%fromFY2014.

• Duringsummer2019,sevenCollegeofDesignstudentsparticipatedinanimmersivelearningexperiencewiththemembersofthelocalcraftsector,andtheCenterforSustainableRuralLivelihoods(CSRL),inKumali,Uganda.ThestudentsworkedalongsideUgandanpeersandlocalartisanstoperformacommunityassessmentregardinghowdesigncouldcontributetotheirlivelihood,economy,andenvironment;andinvestigatedavailableskillsetsandmaterialsinthecraftsector;amongotheroutcomes.Thisprogramwillalsofacilitatethedevelopmentofacontextualsurveytoevaluateopportunitiesforadditionaldesigninitiatives.Thesurveywillexploretherolelandscapearchitecture,communityandregionalplanning,anddesignextensioncouldplayintheaddressingthechallengesUgandaisfacing,incollaborationwiththelocalcommunity.AsCSRLexpandsandgrows,thecollegeofaimstoassistruralcommunitiesastheytransformintoaself-sustainingfuture,throughtheinvestigationofgeneratingsustainabledesignsolutionsthatwillintersectqualityofthecraftsandtheexistingskillsinthiscommunity,tobroadentheirofferings.

7.6 College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

• ThecollegesuccessfullyrecruitedaseniorfacultymembertojointheISUastheLanhandOanhNguyenEndowedChairinSoftwareEngineering,withintheDepartmentofComputerScience.Donorfundswereusedtomakethehire,whichhashelpedthedepartmentachieveahigherlevelofdiversity–20%oftenuretrackfacultyarenowwomen,comparedto15%nationally.

• TheGraduateCollegerecruiteddiversestudentsforgraduateprogramsacrosscampusatmultiplevenuesinthepastyear.ForumsinsouthernandnorthernCalifornia,forexample,generatedcontactwithhundredsofpotentialstudentsfromunderrepresentedgroups.

• WhiletheGraduateCollegehasalongtraditionofhelpingfacultyrecruitandsupportdiversegraduatestudents,thecollegerecentlyreallocatedaportionofitsexistingresourcestodesignanewscholarshipprogramtoencourageMcNairScholarsfromacrosstheUnitedStatestoenrollinamaster’sordoctoraldegreeprogramatIowaState.McNairScholarsprepareforgraduateschoolwhiletheyareundergraduatesbyparticipatingintheirundergraduateinstitution’sfederallyfundedRonaldE.McNairPostbaccaluareateAchievementProgram.Suchprogramsarefocusedonhelpingfirst-generationstudentsandothersunderrepresentedingraduateschooltoachieveeducationalgoals.

7.9 University Library • Fivelearningsessionsfeaturinglocalorregionalspeakersfocusedondiversity,

equity,andinclusionwerebroughttotheUniversityLibraryduringFY19.Threeofthesesessionswereintendedforalllibrarystaff,withattendancestronglyencouragedandexpected.Twoadditionalsessionsweredevelopedforspecificlibraryunitsandtargetedtopicsrelevanttotheirwork,thoughinsomecasesstafffromotherunitscouldattendifinterested.Attendancewasstrongandlearningoutcomespositiveforthesesessions.OnekeyfindingfortheISULibraryhasbeentheeffectivenessofestablishinganiterativeprocessofbringingtargeteddiversityprogrammingdirectlytolibrarystaff,followedbyassessmentanddevelopmentofonlineguidesforfurtherlearning,followedbysharingassessmentsummariesandtheonlineguideswithstaff.Throughthisprocess,staffarekeptbetterinformedonoveralllearningoutcomesaswellasthevalueandpurposeofdiversitylearninganditsrelevancetoeveryone’swork.

• Thelibrary’sADforInclusion&Equitydevelopedandledfourlibrarystaffgroupsinmonth-tosemester-longfacilitatedreadingsanddiscussionsofthebook“WhiteFragility:WhyIt’sSoHardforWhitePeopletoTalkaboutRacism,”byRobinDiAngelo.Thebookdefinesandexaminessystemicracism,anddeconstructsthepresumedneutralityanddefaultpositionofwhiteness.Thebookemphasizescriticalthinkingskills,self-reflection,andtakingactionindismantlingracism,beginningwithourselves.Inall,54librarystaff(roughly50%ofpermanentstaff)willhaveparticipatedinoneoftheseextendeddiscussionseriesinFY19.

• InFY19,thelibraryimplementedtherequirementforallpermanentlibrarystafftoreportdiversity,equity,andinclusionactivitiesontheirannualreviewmaterials,alongwiththerequirementthatstaffsupervisorswillcommentontheseactivitiesintheirsupervisoryreviews.Thischangeemphasizesthatdiversityispartofeveryone’sworkresponsibilities.AllevaluationformsusedinMerit,P&S,AcademicLibrarian,andFacultyLibrarianevaluationshavebeenupdatedtoreflectthisimportantchange.ThischangealignstheUniversityLibrarywiththeISUStrategicPlan2017-2022,Goal4,ActionandMetric4.4.

• TheLibrary’sDiversity,Equity,andInclusionCommitteewasreconfiguredinMay2019bytheADforInclusion&Equity.Anewchargeemphasizingactionoveramorepassiveconstructofcelebratingwasdevelopedandapproved;regulartermappointmentswereshortenedtotwoyearsratherthanfour,andcommitteemembershipwasincreased.Allcommitteemembersarenowchargedtogetinvolvedinvariouscommitteeactivitiesovertheyear.Toincreaseunderstandingandbuildalearningcommunityofpractice,thecommitteereadanddiscussedthebook“IsEveryoneReallyEqual”duringFall2018toensurethatallcommitteememberswereconversantwithvariousdiversitytopicsandresearch.Thistrainingservedasafoundationforthecommittee’ssubsequentwork.CommitteeactivitiesinFY2019included:

• TheLaboratoryhostedover100eighthgradeScienceBoundstudentsfromtargetedIowaschooldistricts:Denison,DesMoines,andMarshalltown.TheparticipatingDesMoinesschooldistrictswereidentifiedinthe“MyBrother’sKeeper”initiative.ThisisanannualeventwherestudentsarewelcomedtotheLaboratorybyHumanResourcesandDiversity,andEducationandOutreachstaffmembers,andpresentedwithhistoricalhighlightsofDOEandtheLaboratory.ThentheyrotatebetweenfivestationsforscientificdemonstrationsfacilitatedbyLaboratoryscientists,postdoctoralresearchassociates,andgraduateandundergraduatestudents.Thestationstypicallyinclude:1)LENSdemonstration;2)MaterialsPreparationCenter;3)Materials;4)ThermalChanges;and5)Magnets.Eachyearminorityandfemalestaffscientistsareencouragedtoparticipateinthiseventsominorityandwomenparticipantsareabletobetterrelateandconnecttoapotentialmentor.Thiseventcontinuestobesuccessful,andwillbecontinuedtobeoffered.Further,theLaboratoryEducationandOutreachstaffhaveidentifiedanopportunitytostrengthenLaboratoryawarenesstoScienceBoundundergraduatesontheIowaStateUniversitycampusthroughthreeactivities:ScienceBoundLunch&Learn,ScienceBoundseminars,andScienceBoundresearchtalks.AmesLaboratoryscientists,students,andstaffwillinteractatactivitiesforScienceBoundundergraduates,providinginformationontheLab’scutting-edgescienceprogramsandopportunitiestoparticipateininternshipssuchastheScienceUndergraduateLaboratoryInternship(SULI).
