Skills for lifeGlenelg Golf Club has created a progressive junior golf program placing an emphasis on developing life skills as well as the important golfing components.

Golf is a highly social sport and is something you or your children can enjoy at any age or skill level.

Membership at Glenelg Golf Club is a lifestyle investment. Junior members have the opportunity to be introduced to the traditions of the game and the etiquette upheld at a private golf club, while experiencing the modern club benefits available, and all in a non-threatening, relaxed environment.

Our membership and programs will prepare all junior golfers for playing golf at any club on a local, national or international level, both now and in the future.

Welcome to GlenelgEstablished in 1927, Glenelg Golf Club is recognized as one of the leaders in Australian golf. With a progressive approach, Glenelg continues to operate as one of the premier golfing facilities, now ranked inside the top 30 golf courses in Australia.

With a true test of golf, modern facilities, nationally recognised coaching professionals, in conjunction with one of Australia’s most regarded junior development programs, Glenelg Golf Club offers junior golfers the perfect opportunity to progress their game to whatever level they choose.

Junior development

A key component of every junior membership at GlenelgWe are very proud of our investment in junior golf.

Glenelg Golf Club places great importance on junior golf and this is reflected in the Club’s junior membership structures and the development programs associated with them, which provide a pathway to help juniors to achieve their golfing goals.

Our elite team of nationally recognised and accredited coaching professionals coordinate programs in-conjunction with the Club’s Junior Golf sub-committee. All pro shop staff are available to junior members for coaching and advice, with costs generally covered by funding from the Glenelg Golf Club Foundation.

The development of good golfers is a key aim of the program, however there is also a very strong belief that golf should be a fun and enjoyable pastime. The programs in place encourage all juniors, regardless of their ability, to learn, enjoy and respect all that golf club membership has to offer at Glenelg, in a safe, supervised and healthy environment.

The Glenelg Golf Club Foundation was established in 2002 to facilitate the funding of key projects through donations from members and supporters.

One of the Foundation’s key projects involves the ongoing funding of the Club’s Junior Golf & Elite Player Development Programs. The Foundation believes this is fundamental to the future of the Club and the game of golf.

Activities receiving financial support through the Foundation include:

• junior clinics

• entry fees & various expenses to compete in local, state & national junior events

• various junior golf trips to country & interstate locations

• individual & elite level coaching for junior members

To date, the Foundation has raised over $200,000, of which almost $130,000 has been spent on funding the Club’s Junior Development Program.

Since 2002, well over 150 junior members of the Club have received some financial assistance or have been involved in some way in Junior Development Program activities. Many of these juniors have remained members of the Club to this day.

Glenelg’s reputation as a leader in junior development has been established thanks to the support of the Foundation and the generous donations given by members and supporters.

Glenelg Golf Club Foundation

The Junior Tigers Golf Program provides a pathway for young golfers from Beginner through to Junior Cadets and finally to Junior Membership at Glenelg Golf Club.

The structured six-level program applies the motto, “A Skill, A Rule & An Etiquette” and each session completed will involve these three areas.

Frequently asked questionsIf you have a question that is not answered below, please don’t hesitate to contact us on (08) 8295 3793.

Q. How old do I have to be before I can join?

A. In general, juniors may not join the Club until they are 12 years old, however in certain circumstances, juniors under the age of 12 can join. Once you turn 18, you transfer from Junior membership to Intermediate membership. At the age of 25, you become a Provisional member.

Q. Do my parents have to be members?

A. No. Juniors can join, irrespective of whether or not you have relatives who are members at Glenelg.

Q. What are my rights as a Junior member?

A. Junior members, as with all members, have full use of the clubhouse and practice facilities. Some playing restrictions apply on certain days of the week, but generally, juniors have full access to the course.

Q. Can I bring my mum, dad or a friend out for a game?

A. Juniors can invite a guest to play with them. Juniors may not invite more than one guest at any time without permission from the Administration Office, but this is possible.

Glenelg's short courseDesigned by world renowed golf coach, Dave Pelz, as the most effective short game tool devised so far, this scoring system enables players to head out onto the practice area and set some clear goals for a short game session.

Using the Club’s world class short game facilities (chipping, putting and bunker play), the scoring system enables us to provide juniors with a short course handicap and compete against themselves or other juniors without actually venturing onto the golf course. It’s perfect for those juniors not quite ready to tackle the full 18 holes or just looking to hone their short game.

Travel & tripsPlaying other golf courses and visiting other golfing facilities is important in progressing your game. Consequently, we provide junior members with many opportunities to play golf at other courses and to meet other junior golfers around the state and country.

These trips are a fun way to make new friends and gain experience playing courses other than your own. Funding is determined through the Junior Development Program’s tiered eligibility criteria.

Furthermore, as a junior member, you have access to any number of our reciprocal clubs nationally and internationally. A full list of clubs is availabile on the website.
