The Beaverton Resource Guide (BRG) is a free monthly community paper written, edited and published in Beaverton, by Beaverton residents and for the businesses and people of Beaverton, Oregon, USA. Cedar House Media published the first edition in April of 2011 with the help of the city and the Farmers Market. That first issue was 16 pages. Today, the paper is 32 pages and sponsored by the most important community organizations: City Hall, police, library, historical society, TVF&R, WCVA, THPRD, Washington Square and Cedar Hills Crossing to name a few.
Beaverton has so many positive attributes and many go unnoticed. The BRG is our way of giving back to the community by highlighting what makes our city a great place to live, work and shop. With a focus on small, local businesses, we’d like to encourage our neighbors to first visit nearby businesses and give them a chance before moving on.
Absolutely! With our unique layout, colorful design and community content, our readers are beyond loyal not only because they want to know "what's happening this month in Beaverton" but also because they completely agree with our philosophy of Shop Local - Give Local - Stay Local. As a local business, your ad will get seen by those who are willing to go out of their way to shop local. These residents are your best customers and our best readers! In addition, we don’t print massive quantities and mail them out to uninterested parties. Our papers are located in convenient, local and high traffic locations ready to be picked up by those who love Beaverton.
If you'd like a copy for yourself or want to pick up a few for your business, drop by our office or go to any of these participating locations: New Seasons, Dairy Queen, THPRD facilities, Starbucks. In try Farmers Market, City Park (red newsstands), library, Powell's Books, city hall; - Walgreens, 24 Hour Fitness, branch library, Big Al's;
RiteAid, Albertson's, Thriftway.
If you would like to place an ad or submit an article for consideration, please contact us by email or phone.

A sport played on the ice is heating up in popularity in Beaverton.
The Evergreen Curling Club hosted a grand opening in January for its new location at 10950 S.W. Fifth St., Suite 155.
According to the club’s board members,
and the second on the west coast. The Evergreen Curling Club formed in
2002 and previously practiced twice a week at the Lloyd Center ice rink in Portland.
Plenty of questions surround the sport of curling. What is it? How does it work? And how do you turn a broom, a stone and an ice rink into a fun and competitive game?
The sport’s nickname, “The Roaring Game,” originates from the rumbling sound made by the granite stone as it travels across the ice.
“Some crazy guys in Scotland 500 years ago, in the wintertime they couldn’t play
golf anymore, so they decided to see who could throw the stone out there on the lochs,” explained Bruce Irvin, president of the Evergreen Club.
Instructors at the Beaverton club said they can show you how to play in two hours. By the end of the session, beginners might just be ready to join a league.
There are curling leagues, activities for children and opportunities for people in wheelchairs to take part in the sport.
The club has more than 100 members, and aims to promote camaraderie, sportsmanship and team competition in the community.
Learn more about fun events and new businesses every weekday during “On The Go With Joe” on “Good Day Or-egon.”

he Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District continues to
ful ll the promise it made in a bond measure approved by voters in 2008.Eleven projects were completed in 2012, most notably the expansions/renovations of the Conestoga Recreation & Aquatic Center and Elsie Stuhr Center and the redevelopment of Camille Park. THPRD has now nished 48 projects since bond implementation began in 2009. “We accomplished a tremendous amount in 2012,” said THPRD General Manager Doug Menke. “It’s a tribute to solid planning, execution, scal management and hard work.
“But we still have a long way to go. It will be 2017 or 2018 before we nish all the projects in our
bond program. This is de nitely a marathon.”The $100 million bond measure is designated to preserve natural areas, develop new trails and trail connections, add athletic elds, and upgrade or expand parks and recreational facilities across the district. Once the measure passed, district managers began the process of planning and implementing 129 projects over a multiyear period. THPRD recently completed a major bond-funded makeover of Evelyn M. Schif er Memorial Park in central Beaverton. The 10-acre site, reopened to the public in January, features 252 feet of boardwalk, play equipment with natural surfaces and textures, two picnic shelters, community gardens, athletic areas, a basketball court, pathways, and a skate “spot.”The latter is the rst skating facility for the district outside of its main complex at 158th and Walker Road. Another plus for park visitors is a two-acre wetland area with restored habitat and overlooks for better views.
Redevelopment of A.M. Kennedy Park, at 102nd and Kennedy between Canyon Road and Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway, has already begun and will continue throughout the winter, spring and summer.Construction on additional projects will begin this spring. Scheduled for complete development are Barsotti Park (between 160th and 170th Avenues in Beaverton) and Hansen Ridge Park (off NW Kaiser Road). Both are expected to open by the end of December.Smaller redevelopment projects at Vista Brook, Pioneer, and Roy E. Dancer Parks are scheduled to begin this spring and nish by year-end.
For a full description of all upcoming and completed bond projects, please visit www.thprd.org/bondprojects.

Do you ever feel like your mar-riage is coming in last place for
your time and attention? Inspired Family Coaching is offering a work-shop for couples called “The Core of Marriage: Passionate Friend-ship.” It will be held at the Beaver-ton Healing Center on February 23, 2013 from 1-4pm.
Michelle Butler, MA will be co-leading with Franny Thompson, MSW. At the heart of a satisfying marriage is a passionate friendship.
Learn how you and your partner can better meet each other’s emo-tional needs and revitalize this es-sential relationship. To register for the workshop, please call 503-781-8766. The cost is $60 per couple.
Michelle is a Master’s level coun-selor and parent educator with her own practice, Inspired Family Coaching, LLC. A coaching session with Michelle is a great place to be-gin when you want your family re-lationships to improve. Her services
help families work more effectively by finding strategies that manage stress and foster close relation-ships. Coaching is a collaborative, short-term and action oriented approach to change. Michelle be-lieves that by drawing inspiration from your own values and living with intention, you can achieve sat-isfaction in your family life.

Guicho's
Tapatio Mexican Resturant & Cantina has been serving authentic Mexican food in the Aloha area on 185th Ave since 2000.
Fabien Macedo, owner of both this restaurant and another in Gresham, has been running these successful businesses for 12 years with the help of his family.
Fabien is now very proud to help his mother, Magdalina, and brother, Louis, start their own Mexican Restaurant in the Murray Crossing Shopping Center just off of Murray and Allen Blvd. behind Shari's.
Guicho's Mexican Restaurant specializes in serving cuisine from their home state of Jalisco. With beautiful murals on the wall and a comfortable atmosphere reminiscent of their hometown, Fabien invites you to try his family's Jalisco-style Mexican cuisine at Guicho's.

Prawns, mushrooms, and onions sautéed in butter & spices.

True health is more than just feeling good. With the Five
Essentials, we have created a simple system of living that will help you live a natural, healthy life, free of medication and expensive medical treatments. While each of the 5 Essentials listed below may be familiar, there are many things that you may not know. Implement-ing these essentials can transform your health.
Essential 1: Maximized MindA Maximized Mind encom-
passes areas such as time and stress management, improving your relation-ships with others, and making sure that you get adequate amounts of sleep.
Essential 2: Maximized Nerve SupplyNerve supply is the life sup-
ply to all cells, organs, and systems in the body and so is responsible for all function and healing. Improper spi-nal alignment is common and occurs because of physical, emotional, and chemical stresses.
Essential 3: Maximized Quality NutritionWhat you put into your body
affects how you feel each and every day. Improper nutrition can create a lot of symptoms such as depression, brain fog, stress and fatigue.
Essential 4: Maximized Oxygen and Lean MuscleExercise allows your body to
take in higher levels of oxygen and cre-ates lean muscle. Studies have shown that exercise consistently can exceed the benefits of antidepressants.
Essential 5: Minimized ToxinsToxins and chemicals sur-
round us in our everyday lives and affect our bodies negatively. They are included in items such as medications, refined foods, household cleaners and items we cook with!
5 Essentials for a Maximized Life

Malihe at Ziba Salon"Our family discovered Mali at Ziba Salon in the Progress Ridge a few months ago and now we'll go nowhere else. My hair is easy but my wife's hair is much more complicated. Not a problem for Mali. The true test was how she handled our kids. We brought our 1 year old there for her first haircut and there was not one fuss. Then for our 3 year old, Mali made her smile and laugh making our trip to the salon a positive thing to look forward to for the whole family!" - Mike W., 46 (Sexton Mountain)

I have been going to the barre consistently since March and have developed strength and toning, and gone down two dress sizes. Furthermore, I have autoimmune arthritis, and both my PCP and Rheumatologist have encouraged my barre workouts because it is not only a workout that can be modified for any phyiscal ailment, but it has strengthened the tendons and muscles that my arthritis weakens. I have seen a significant change in flexibility and stability from regular attendance. I'd like to thank Sara Peelle, Emily Harrington, and Whiteny Mallard for bringing long-overdue Xtend Barre to Beaverton. I don't know what I'd do without it!

What’s not to love?…the Staff, the Teachers, the Real People… One and all feel welcome.
Lorraine & Jim Griffin
Molly gets to exercise and social contact and I get to work on reduc-ing my waist line.
Molly and Ken Keudell
The Stuhr Center is a warm and friendly place. The classes have kept me going and given me many new friends. The instructors are so kind and helpful, and very knowl-edgeable. I have been coming for many years and have been so well cared for.
Barbara Miles
I enjoy Elsie Stuhr Center due to the fellowship of the staff. The many classes that are available and the friends we meet there. Such a happy place to spend time and meet friends and play cards with. I love the exercise classes also.
Ellie Williams
We love Elsie Stuhr Center because of the family feeling and that the staff has helped us get a walker (and wheelchair for the carsoon). We play cards and Charles goes to exercise class and weight room. We love it here.
Charles and Thelma Kirby
What a great place this is for us older folks. Elsie Stuhr had won-derful foresight to get this going. It’s such a wonderful place to form new friendships too!
Dottie Katsules
Since retiring, the Elsie Stuhr Cent-er has provided me with activities which I enjoy and the opportunity to make very special friends. It is a happy place for seniors.
Dorothy Raymond
The Elsie Stuhr Center is a great outlet for me. I am so greatful for the exercise classes and especially the trainers. Everyone involved in keep-ing the Stuhr Centerrunning goes the extra mile for us. Thanks much.
Ruby Carter
Top notch conditions; great people; helpful instructors; enough equip-ment in gym; Diverse classes of instruction.
Karl Unger
I love the Stuhr Center because it gets me out of the house every day, then I exercise and have lunch, maybe cards. Go home for a nap. I can talk to my friends and have fun.
Al Brown

Passing in a no passing zone under ORS 811-420 is considered to have occurred if a person drives a vehicle to the left of the roadway against a “Solid Yellow Line” on the pavement for more than the last 100 feet prior to making a turn. Although the “continuous left turn lane” may look like a legal lane of travel, it is not.
QThere is no specific law in Oregon that states “no dog on the lap while operating a vehicle”. The applicable violation would be 815.270 “Operating vehicle that is loaded or equipped to ob-struct driver”. This violation has to do with a driver’s ability to drive without being hindered or encumbered. In more extreme cases, such as a motor vehicle crash, Careless Driving 811.135 may be the definitive violation.
QWhen turning at Hall and Farmington the driver must give the pedestrian one and a half lanes of clearance.
