Some destinations beckon like our favourite dreams, ones we keep on a ‘bucket
list’ either spoken or secret, imagined or real. Now is the opportunity to take hold
of those places you’ve fantasised about since childhood, when pure wonder filled
the world. Come aboard and experience locales so numerous, so desirable, so
one-of-a-kind that by the end of your journey, you'll need to start dreaming anew.
Consider one of the world’s most mystical destinations, Easter Island. Nearly 500
years ago, on a tiny speck of land nearly 2,300 miles from the Chilean coast, the
inhabitants of Rapa Nui carved massive megaliths called Moai. Questions have
abounded since a Dutch explorer gave Easter Island its name in 1722, and you’ll
no doubt be searching for clues as you explore this fascinating place.
In the Indian Ocean, off the coasts of Sri Lanka and India, sits another speck
of land that beckons world travellers as a truly unique destination. Malé
(pronounced maa-lah) is the capital of the Maldives, a small island nation known
for laid-back beach vibes and white-sand resorts. Malé, by contrast, is a hub of
activity, dotted with brightly coloured buildings and bustling cafes. An overnight
stay guarantees you’ll gain an appreciation for authentic Maldivian life before
continuing onward.
Just north of South Africa in the Mozambique Channel, Maputo awaits with
jacaranda-lined avenues and Mediterranean-style architecture that make it one of
Africa’s most beloved capitals. Founded as a port city by the Portuguese, Maputo
is Mozambique’s sparkling, cosmopolitan jewel. It's an evolving city that you’ll
recall long after Seven Seas Mariner® carries you and your fellow travellers around
the African coast.

From the green, hawksbill and loggerhead turtles found in the waters off George
Town to the tropical parrots that populate the artsy urbanscape of Barcelona, you’ll
encounter a cross-section of wildlife that very few get to experience in person.
In Manta, you’ll hear howler monkeys before you see them. Found in nature
reserves and animal sanctuaries, the distinctive monkeys emit sounds that range
from a grumpy German shepherd to a baby’s cry to a low, haunting moan
resounding through the verdant trees. Bird lovers will find hummingbirds,
yellow-rumped cacique, speckled chachalaca and spectacled owls flittering in
the tropical canopy.
Though a bustling commercial hub, Colombo has wildlife sanctuaries where you
can see lemurs, monkeys, apes, the Sri Lankan leopard, African lion and Bengal
tiger, plus African and Asian elephants. Exotic varieties of herons, crakes, pelicans,
coots and ibis abound at local bird sanctuaries.
The renowned Big 5 of South African wildlife — lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant
and Cape buffalo — may be found in proximity to an out-of-the-way port city like
Richards Bay, which is also one of South Africa’s top water bird areas.

The lure of long-distance travel upon immense bodies of water is as old as
humankind itself. Painters, poets and songwriters have long drawn inspiration from
the appeal, the challenge and the mystery of what awaits beyond the horizons
of blue, green and turquoise seas. Dr. Samuel Johnson famously wrote, "When a
man comes to like a sea life, he is not fit to live on land."
When pushing off from the Port of Miami, we’re certain you’ll quickly adapt to the
sanguine pace of life at sea. It may be true, as novelist Joseph Conrad wrote, that
“He who loves the sea loves also the ship’s routine.” But open water also fuels a
desire for adventure, and you’ll find it as you transit one of the 20th-century’s
greatest technological achievements — the Panama Canal — before entering
the world's largest expanse of water, the mighty Pacific Ocean.
As you settle into ocean life, be prepared for a soaring of the spirit. It may come
while standing on your balcony, morning coffee in hand, watching diamonds of
sunlight sparkle on a sea that stretches to never-ending horizons. Or it may be fired
by the rhythms and sweet smells that welcome you to the South Pacific islands
of French Polynesia. Mythic, heavenly, verdant — exactly as you’d expect yet
shockingly sublime — a people and place you’ll never forget on your journey
of a lifetime.
As you’ll joyously discover, this pattern is repeated. Hypnotic, almost addicting
days and nights aboard Seven Seas Mariner®, peppered with the excitement of what
awaits at the next port of call. Heading south through the Coral Sea, watching for
the spectacular Australian coast while navigating the Great Barrier Reef. Visiting a
wish-list of cities that ring the South China Sea. Island hopping in the Indian Ocean.
Crossing the fabled Arabian Sea on your way to the Gulf of Oman. Rounding the
southern tip of South Africa, where the Indian Ocean meets the Atlantic.
All told, a seafaring adventure as majestic as any ocean.

Perhaps the greatest reward for embarking on our world cruise is discovering
destinations so off the beaten path that they seem barely touched by travellers.
Nowhere is this reward more striking than at the dozens of tropical ports
boasting calming blue waters, glistening strips of white sand, verdant slopes
and friendly locals.
While this description fits any of the French Polynesian ports of call that precede
it, Pago Pago conjures images of a South Pacific steeped in lore and legend. Tutuila
is home to the bustling fishing town of Pago Pago, which sits on a jaw-dropping
harbour created by a submerged crater that collapsed millions of years ago.
Authentic Samoan traditions thrive in this island nation that’s believed to be the
birthplace of Polynesian culture. Their proud spirit will fortify you long after leaving.
Now, close your eyes and envision an ‘island paradise’. Open your eyes and you’re
in the Seychelles, roughly 950 miles east of Africa in the Indian Ocean.
La Digue, the third largest of the country’s 115 islands, features endless coves
of pristine beaches and barely a hint of development. Some of the most popular
beaches are reached only by foot, and bicycles are the most practical form
or transportation.
Sitting off the coast of Southeast Africa, Mayotte is a truly offbeat destination.
You’ll find one of the largest and deepest lagoons in the world, a breath-taking
volcanic range running the length of the island and a culture ripe with regional
history and a vibrant blend of local influences. It's an inspiring port of call that
provides a question you can pose to fellow world travellers back home: “Sure,
you’ve been around… but have you seen Mayotte?”

2023 WORLD CRUISE / 15
By travelling so far and wide, this epic voyage visits a collection of cities and
countries that have developed over time and across waves of conquest,
destruction and renaissance. Many of these destinations are home to UNESCO
World Heritage sites that allow you to gain a hands-on appreciation for the
heritage and history that came before.
Spanish colonial architecture competes with skyscrapers in Manila, where you’ll
find one of the four Baroque Churches of the Philippines, a UNESCO World Heritage
site since 1993. Located in Intramuros, Manila’s walled Old City, the 16th-century
San Agustin Church fuses European design with local materials that created a new
tradition of church-building in the Philippines.
Penang has long been a crossroads of east and west culture and today it boasts a
thriving arts scene and colourful carnivals. The well-preserved heritage buildings
of Penang’s capital, George Town, were designated a UNESCO World Cultural
Heritage site in 2008. Unlike other sites called out for their historical significance,
George Town remains a diverse and thriving blend of old and new.
Halfway between Gibraltar and Barcelona, the port city of Alicante is known for its
glistening architecture, medieval castle and predictably buzzing nightlife (this is
Spain, after all). It’s also home to Palmeral of Elche, a haven of date palm trees
that was originally laid out during the construction of the Muslim city of Elche in
the 10th century AD, when the bulk of the Iberian Peninsula was Arab. It was
designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000. With over 200,000 palm
trees, it’s a perfect oasis to wander within as you ponder your world cruise, which
will draw to a close in Barcelona.

canyon, as the fading light casts dramatic shadows across the stark environment,
and the perfect opportunity for the beginning to an unforgettable evening under
