Please take action on the following alert we received from
the National Committee for a Human Life Amendment
Monday’s Senate vote was disappointing to put it mildly. Like you, I was hoping for a better outcome for S. 1881. However, we must not be discouraged. Majority Leader McConnell switched his vote at the last moment to preserve his right to bring the bill forward again. By voting with the prevailing side, Sen. McConnell was able to enter a motion for the vote to be reconsidered at a later time. There may be other opportunities to obtain the goal of S. 1881.
Thanks to all who were able to answer our call to action on Monday. Time was short to respond. If you didn’t have an opportunity to contact Congress before the vote I urge you to do so now. It remains important that your senators hear from you. Please take a moment to say thank you if your senators were among the 53 voting for life. If your senators did not vote in favor of defunding Planned Parenthood, it is critical that they hear from you now. It only takes a moment to let them know we are still engaged and still expecting life-protecting decisions from them.
Follow up with your senators through our Human Life Action Center by using the link below. We have already sorted out the appropriate response based on your address. Contact your senators.
Together, we will be heard!

Laudato Si’ – On Care for Our Common Home
The Mount LaVerna Fraternity (Secular Franciscan Order) is hosting a discussion group on the new encyclical from Pope
Francis called Laudato Si’ – On Care for Our Common Home. This discussion group will be held at Church of the
Incarnation on Wednesday evenings for eight consecutive weeks. This discussion group is open to everyone in the
community, as this encyclical was addressed to everyone, not just Catholics. You can come to one or all of the discussions
as each will offer focus on the chapters of Laudato Si’ with an introduction and end with how we can apply these
teachings in our daily life. The format of this discussion will be similar to Joy of the Gospel group where we broke into
smaller groups to read the document and bring the discussion to the larger group. Printed books may be purchased at
The Sycamore Tree in Charlottesville.
DATES: Wednesdays September 2 – October 21 from 7-9pm

Brothers and sisters: Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with which you were sealed for the day of redemption. All bitterness, fury, anger, shouting, and reviling must be removed from you, along with all malice. And be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ. So be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, as Christ loved us and handed himself over for us as a sacrificial offering to God for a fragrant aroma.
