FILLING OPERATION
Filling is made by use of two pumps at the intake, one pump is spare for theother. Use of the gate is not permitted.
Filling shall be made in a controlled manner, not exceeding an average pressure
increase of 5 m/hour. Stops in the filling is done to record the drawdown over
time, and to obtain the average filling speed.
During filling and stops, the level of water in the shaft shall be recorded, both
automatically and manually.
10 stops for water level monitoring is planned.
Increasing the water level to the next stop may take place when the water
drawdown is levelling out. This is considered when the drawdown is 2 - 3 m/h.
At firsts stops several refilling may be required before we may observe a
levelling out.
Before filling starts, various works needs to be done and items controlled.
Checklist is made for this purpose.
The filling is expected to take approximate 4 days.

11/1411
For monitoring works, each shift shall have 2 groups of 2 persons
each, who will divide the area geographically between each other.
There shall always be minimum 2 persons in the tunnel.
If one persons leave the tunnel, this shall be reported to the other
group.
All persons in the monitoring team shall be able to read pressure
gauges, v notches and record water leakages and receive training for
this.
Max and Gil is requested to perform this training. For this purpose a
minimum of 2 records per week to be made until filling start shall be
made by the groups
All monitoring points shall be shown on one drawing. The control room in the switchyard shall be command centre for the
filling operation

SAFETY
MCD as main contractor will have overall responsibility for safety
A meeting will be conducted with the contractors at Site to go through
the filling operation and to identify the inherent risks
The following items are identified as important for the filling operation:
Communication
Sandbags outside valve chamber
Awareness and procedures of evacuation and escape routes
Safety gears (Flash lights)
Procedure for operation of discharge valves
No touch policy being in Power House and valve chamber

SUPPORT FROM CONTRACTORS:
MCD:
Installation and operation of pumps at the intake. There shall be 2 operators at each shift.
Operation of discharge valves in Valve chamber. There shall be 2 operators at each shift.
Arrange communication: 2 radio with the monitoring teams, one radio at Intake, one at
valve chamber, one in Control room, one at shift Manager (Engineer) + backup and
battery charging facilitates. Name of those who shall carry radios shall be given to MCD
Team of skilled and unskilled workers to do grout drilling, grouting, sleeve setting and
other works required ( Handling of sandbags etc).
Personnel Safety of the operation
At Intake and valve-chamber, there shall always be one operator present even during meal
breaks. Names of operators, and works superintendant to be provided.
ANDRITZ: Operation/safeguarding data from monitoring equipment for water levels, Toother works required on Mechanical/electrical installations.
THE ENGINEERS DUTIES:
Overall management and decision making during the filling operation
Monitoring works inside the tunnels
