10 WAYS TO MAKE EXERCISE STICKBy
Mercedes Peynado
No 1.FIND A WORKOUT YOU ENJOY
If you find a way to exercise that you enjoy, then you’re more likely to
stick with it - on that note don’t ever ask me to go rock climbing with you!
No 2.CHANGE YOUR WORKOUTS
Variety is the spice of life! If you do the same workout for too long, you’re going to
become bored. Change your workouts to keep exercise fun and stimulating.
No 3.HAVE A VARIETY OF EXERCISE
METHODS TO KEEP YOU ACTIVEExercise can be leisurely too. Walking, gardening, DIY, playing outdoor games with the children and
grandchildren – just as long as you’re up and moving and keeping busy!
No 4.EXERCISE WITH THE RIGHT
INSTRUCTORHaving an instructor to guide you on proper exercise
technique is crucial to your progress but you need someone who you feel comfortable with and inspires
you. What that instructor looks like is up to you - hopefully in the form of myself and Cassy aka MF’s Laurel
and Hardy!
No 5. (This IS a biggy!)SURROUND YOURSELF WITH
LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE‘You are the average of the five people you spend the most
time with.' Jim Rohn
This is why group exercise works! MF has built up a community of women who are all different but share a common goal of improving their health and fitness. If anybody is going to get
where you’re coming from when you hit the highs and lows in your fitness journey, you can count on an MF Mover!
No 6.MAKE A COMMITMENT
Yep, DO IT! Don’t be half-hearted about your goal by saying, ‘I need to get fit’, make it YOUR priority - this is something for YOU and you
deserve it! Quit procrastinating and say, ‘It’s now or never!’.
The alternative? A lost, frustrated and disheartened soul. We all want to feel special. What real good are you to anyone if you’re down in the
dumps?
No 7.DON’T GIVE YOURSELF TOO
MANY GOALS"When eating an elephant take one bite at a time." Creighton Abrams
Start off with ONE clear and specific goal and then build on gradually - ‘I want to touch my toes in 8 weeks time’, is a much more specific,
focused and realistic goal than, ‘I want to lose weight, be strong and more supple’!
No 8.BE CONSISTENT
“Consistency forms habit!” Anthony Peynado
When you don't exercise often, you become narky and the little things seem like mountains to climb - time to get rid
of the stress, release some energy and feel the happy hormones kick in when you take action and complete a
workout.
No 9.EXERCISE TO MUSIC
It’s definitely our weapon at MF to motivate and uplift our members and it’s what makes our workouts so powerful.
There’s nothing more powerful than music to get you in the mood for exercise, as well as keeping you going to make
sure you finish that workout.
No 10.BE KIND TO YOURSELF
We’re not going to lie! At some point, you are going to fall of the bandwagon - we all have bad
days!Just realise it’s happening WHEN it’s happening and ask yourself first, ‘Am I really sure that I can’t do the workout?’ If the answers still no, then accept it and say, ‘I’ll pick myself up and not quit by pledging to complete the next workout on your schedule!’. The likelihood is that you will perform better at your next workout by giving yourself that
time out!
