London: A Celebration | 10th-‐13th May 2012 Featured Jewellers
Handmade in Britain presents a unique selling exhibition inspired by the capital city in 2012. The show will feature both up and coming and established designers including some big names in the world of jewellery. London, being a big melting pot of culture, is known for its diversity and sense of free expression, which is a huge source of inspiration for many artists of different cultural backgrounds.
The show celebrates the British creativity so abundant in London. Each designer will commemorate the capital city inspired by its heritage, diversity, colour and creativity through a range of disciplines including ceramics, jewellery, glass, textiles and many more. Visitors will have the opportunity to purchase and commission pieces made specifically to celebrate London in 2012 by both up & coming and established artists of Britain. The show will allow you to get personal with British makers whilst supporting the skill and craftsmanship of Britain. Some of the notable Jewellers that will feature at the show are: Welsh jewellery designer Anne Morgan gathers inspiration from the beautiful coastlines of the UK. She has been particularly inspired on her trips to the Thames and incorporates pieces of driftwood found there into her pieces making them extremely unique. Jenny Llewellyn is an East London based jeweller who was inspired by the luminous colours and shapes of underwater life at the London Aquarium as well as the vibrant colour palettes of nature found at the Kew Gardens. Jenny makes unique pieces from translucent, colourful silicone to convey qualities of underwater life forms in her pieces. Harriet Knightley’s latest collection, “I wish I was Born in the 60’s”, pays homage to the vibrant fashion prints of the 60’s, mixing bold bright colours and fun floral shapes. This collection is a marriage between research at the Kew gardens and the unique London Fashion vibe. Rosemary Lucas has created a signature London 2012 Silver Ring series specifically for this year. This series explores the eastern reaches of the Tames as it flows through the City and out to sea past the Olympic Park at Stratford.
Handmade in Britain has created a show where buyers and exhibitors alike are sure to be inspired by quality, originality and Eco-‐conscious ethos behind the works for sale. Featuring 35 designers from various disciplines, these objects are not mass-‐produced, but personally crafted by the designer him or herself. The products they create are a result of their inspirations, influences and experiences. Each piece is handmade and reflects the interplay between designer and material to create a unique product of the highest quality.

Notes Handmade in Britain is the brain child of Designer-maker Piyush Suri and is an initiative to maintain the high standards in the British Craft sector, create market opportunities for buying craft and provide a platform to designer-makers to reach new markets both in the UK and internationally.
