CCR Program EnhancementsThe Continuing Certification Requirements
Program ensures that Project Management Professionals (PMPs) remain current in their field
PMI study of 2007 identified two key areas for enhancement1st priority was PMI’s in-house reporting system
(CCRS) which launched in 20092nd priority was to improve and simplify the PDU
Category Structure for ease of reporting

17
PDU Reporting Study PMI volunteers created a simplified PDU Category
Structure for review and comment
PMI GOC did a formal study including PMI credential holders, Registered Education Providers (R.E.P.s), and Community Leaders. The new structure was positively received.
PMI Leadership began roll-out of the new PDU Category Structure in December 2010 with Implementation date scheduled for 1 March 2011.
Three year renewal cycle, 60 PDU requirement, and fee structure for re-certification remain the same; can still “Report a Component 1 to 2 PDU event” as before

18
PDU Category Update – Key Changes
Number of PDU categories reduced from 18 to 6
All categories use the rule that “One hour of learning activity = one PDU”
Categories expanded to include Web 2.0 Learning Opportunities
Added limits on certain categories to require all credential holders to pursue continuing education in project management as part of maintaining the credential – PM work experience, volunteer service, and teaching PM topics are not sufficient to retain the credential

19
PDU Category Update – Key Changes
Two primary PDU divisions, each with 3 categories:
Education – No maximum (15 PDU Minimum for PMP Cert)
Giving Back to the Profession – 45 PDU Maximum
Only Category F, Work as a Professional in Project Management, earns a set number of PDUs (5 for PMP) annually. All other categories are based on actual hours expended.
NOTE: There is a limit on Giving Back to the Profession since most PMI volunteer positions require a significant commitment of time and most volunteers would easily meet the total requirements by submitting in Category E. The same is true for PM instructors in Category D.

Implementation Guidance
Effective date for New PDU Reporting Categories and Rules is 1 March 2011
PDUs earned and reported up until 1 March 2011 will be calculated under the current CCR categories
PDUs earned prior to 1 March 2011 but not reported until after that date will fall under the new rules
PMPs should report all work related and volunteer activities under the Giving Back to the Profession PDU categories prior to 1 March 2011 to ensure they are not discarded because they exceed the 45 PDU cap for this division
