1st Annual USC Multi-Disciplinary
Approach to Lymphedema and
Related Disorders Symposium
PRESENTED BY: USC DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY & USC OFFICE OF CONTINUING
MEDICAL EDUCATION
Public Session Available
COURSE DESCRIPTIONLymphedema is a progressive, chronic condition that affects a significant number of cancer survivors but also many in the general population. There is no true cure for lymphedema, but it can be managed with appropriate medical, surgical, and therapeutic approaches. Unfortunately, many patients receive inadequate treatment, are unaware of treatments available, and lack resources on where to seek help.
The multidisciplinary approach to lymphedema and lipedema allows patients to receive up-to-date treatment options, self-management techniques, and appropriate diagnostic testing for additional treatment plans.
This symposium has been designed to provide current, evidence-based data on the treatment and assessment on the full-spectrum of patients with edema, lymphedema, and lipedema. In addition, a unique breakout symposium has been created specifically for patients to attend for educational purposes.
TARGET AUDIENCEThis program has been designed for physicians, wound therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists and allied health professionals. Afternoon breakout session is dedicated to patients.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVESBy the end of the course, participants will be able to:
• Outline the diagnosis and treatments available for patients with lymphedema and other related disorders.
• Discuss the roles of a multi-disciplinary team and their contributions to improved patient and functional outcomes for patients with lymphedema and other related disorders.
• Identify gaps in clinical knowledge and assess ways to improve our clinical expertise.
