Concepts Related to OMU GOMU (GSM Operation and Maintenance Unit )
GOMU is a logical concept which is a communication
bridge between O&M system and BSC boards
GOMU Hardware
GOMU Board or GBAM Server
GOMU Software
The Operation and Maintenance Unit (OMU) software
runs on the GOMU board to perform operation and
maintenance for the BSC

GBAM The GBAM is a server installed with Linux system and
OMU software, which is used to perform operation and
maintenance for the BSC6000
Controls the communications between the LMT and
boards,
Processes commands from the LMT
Filters the results from boards and then returns the results
to the LMT

GOMU GOMU is the OM center of the BSC, it is installed in slots 20–
23 in the GMPS and works in active/standby mode. The GOMU
features high computation speed and outstanding data
processing capability
The GOMU has the following functions:
Provides configuration management, performance
management, fault management, security management,
and loading management for the BSC
Interfaces to the LMT/M2000(1) Screw (2) Leaf spring (3) Wrench

Software Structure
O&M software: The O&M software of the BSC6000
consists of OMU software, LMT software
OMU software: The OMU software runs on the GBAM or
GOMU board. It performs O&M functions. The operating
system is Linux.
LMT software: The LMT software is installed in an LMT
(a local computer). It provides a Graphic User Interface
(GUI). The operating system is Windows 2000
Professional or Windows XP Professional.

Obtain the Installation Information Default Setting

The IP address of the ETH2 port is 192.168.1.1 and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

smooth installation and the normal operation of the OMU software.

Check Time Zone and Time Run the date +%z command to query the information about the
time zone
If the result complies with the current time zone, you can infer that the
time zone of the GOMU board is correct
If the result does not comply with the current time zone, you can infer
that the time zone of the GOMU board is incorrect. Resetting the time
zone is recommended
Run the date command to query the time of the SLES 9.0
If the result complies with the current time, you can infer that the time of
the GOMU board is correct

Copy Software Copying version software to GBAM
Obtain the OMU installation file and save the file to the PC
that is to be connected with the GBAM or GOMU
Double-click the Internet Explorer icon and type the IP
address (for example, \\10.161.72.254) of the GBAM or GOMU
Double-click the BSC6000 folder
Type the user name and password to open the BSC6000
folder
Copy the OMU installation file (for example, omu-9.8.1-
36.i586.rpm) saved on the PC to the directory \BSC6000\
install\ of the GBAM or GOMU

Login GBAM or GOMU
Open the Telnet client (for example, PuTTY) on the PC. Then enter the IP address (for example, \\10.161.72.254) of the GBAM or GOMU and log in to the system

Login and Check
Start Telnet client (eg.PuTTY) on the PC, enter the IP address of the GOMU or GBAM and log in as a root user
Run the command rpm -qa | grep omu. If no information is displayed, you can infer no OMU software is installed
Run the ls command to check the OMU installation file and BSC board software package

Install the OMU Software
Type the rpm -Uvh <name of the installation file for the OMU software> command (for example, rpm -Uvh omu-9.8.1-46.i586.rpm ) to install the OMU software
