Reconciliation

Has other names such as Penance and Confession

This sacrament is confessing your sins to God This is a Sacrament of Healing Sinners receiving this sacrament take 4

steps: 1. They must be sincerely sorry for their sins 2. They must confess their sins to a priest 3. They must be willing to make amends. 4. They must receive absolution or forgiveness

from a priest.

Sins

A mortal sin –is any serious sin committed while knowing how wrong the sin is.

A venial sin- a less serious offense such as lying.

Reconciliation is a sacrament you can receive more than once.

Anointing of the Sick

Is a sacrament for the very old and seriously ill.

Only a priest or bishop may administer this sacrament.

When a priest prays and blesses you with a Holy Oil

It is a Sacrament of Healing. You may receive this sacrament

more than once.

Sacraments of Commitment There are two: Holy Orders and Matrimony Holy Orders- is the sacrament that a baptized

man receives to become a deacon, priest or bishop

Only a bishop may administer the Sacrament of Holy Orders.

A bishop teaches, leads in worship, and guides all the Catholics in a particular diocese.

A diocese is a geographic area set by the church.

A priest is a co-worker with a bishop and serves under him in a particular diocese.

Holy Orders Continued

A deacon assists a priest in conducting parish worship services, leading the parish and doing works of charity.

Not just anyone who wants Holy Orders may receive it. The man must be a baptized Catholic and second he must be approved by Church leaders.

You can only receive this Sacrament once.

Matrimony

In the Sacrament of Matrimony, a baptized man and woman join together in a marriage covenant.

They agree to share life and love in a unique and special way for the rest of their lives.

Two Catholics ordinarily receive this sacrament during mass. The spouses administer the sacrament to each other when they make their wedding vows.

The priest or deacon receives the couple’s vows in the name of the Church and offers them the Church’s blessing.
