CJ’s Café kicks off its new SundaySinger/Songwriter Series this coming Sunday.
It’s designed to bring out local musical tal-ents for Oakville audiences, with performancestaking place every Sunday afternoon from 12 – 2p.m.
Café owner CJ Martin has made it a priorityto showcase the talents of local artists, andwanted to add a series to give musicians achance to showcase their talents as well.
The series has five musicians booked so far,for six Sundays in March and May.
Since April is national Poetry Month, theSunday Singer/Songwriter Series will take abreak in April to let poets take the stage.
Jenn Ryan will kick off the Singer/Songwriterseries on March 10, a folk artist preparing torelease her debut EP, Out in the Open, in May.
Heidi Crocini, an acoustic musician, is on tapfor March 18, with classical guitarist Trevor Burtfollowing her for the Sunday March 25 perform-ance.
Other scheduled artists include RobBirmingham and 16-year-old Maggie Szabo.
Martin made connections to the music com-munity with the help of John Marlatt, who ownsthe Moonshine Café on Kerr St., which alsoshowcases local talent.
"We are very supportive and cooperative witheach other," says Martin. "It’s not like we’re com-petition. People who want to go out at night andenjoy a few drinks while watching music can goto the Moonshine. People who want to go out ona weekend afternoon and enjoy some lunch or acoffee while watching music can come to CJ’s.We both have a commitment to making Oakvillemore creative and culturally vibrant, and we'reboth members of the Oakville Arts Council, andit's great to work together."

Singer/Songwriter Series sheds spotlight on local talentSeries starts Sunday at CJ’s Cafe
West End Studio Theatre (W.E.S.T.)is running its March Break Camp 2007.
Led by experienced actor and direc-tor Yo Mustafa, the camp runs MondayMarch 12 to Friday March 16 from 9a.m. – 4 p.m.
The class size is capped at 25 for kidsages seven through 16.
At the camp, students will learnabout theatre performance, acting,movement, mime, improvisation andmore, and will experience live theatre.
Students are required to bring alunch to the camp.

W.E.S.T. hasMarch Breaktheatre camp
The Cornell University Chorus – a 60-member female choir – will perform atOakville’s Saint Andrew’s RomanCatholic Church on Saturday, March 17at 7:30 p.m.
Under the direction of guest conduc-tor Katherine FitzGibbon, the New York-based chorus is on a nine-day tour ofOntario and Quebec.
Founded in 1921 as the CornellWomen’s Glee Club, the CornellUniversity Chorus is the college’s pre-mier treble voice ensemble and hasearned a prominent place among thenation’s choirs.
The group performs a repertoire rang-ing from African folk music to Mozartmasses.
Since 2003, the Chorus has also beenannually commissioning new works fromwomen composers setting texts bywomen writers.
