Readings and Reflections 33rd Sunday of Ordinary Time
First Reading: Charm is deceptive and beauty fleeting; the woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Give her a reward for her labors, and let her works praise her at the city gates. (Prv 31:30-31)
Reflect: Our Jewish sage describes a model household that is governed by a wife’s wisdom. What do you find
appealing in this portrayal?
Psalm: Blessed are those who fear the Lord. (Ps 128)
Second Reading: For all of you are children of the light and children of the day. We are not of the night or of
darkness. Therefore, let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us stay alert and sober. (1 Thes 5:5-6)
Reflect: Paul speaks of the unknown day upon which Christ will return as coming “like a thief in the night” and as the inescapable “labor
pains” of a woman about to give birth. Why do you think Paul uses such jarring imagery?
Gospel: “His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will
give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master’s joy.’” (Mt 25:21)
Reflect: In his parable of the talents, Jesus teaches about the importance of using our God-given gifts faithfully and prudently. What would be
a natural gift you have used well in your life?

“We can’t imagine loving a child whom we conceived more than we love
Andrew. It is amazing how he fits our personalities so well… Adopting
Andrew has made us more aware of God’s power and of his love for us.
We realize that he always has a perfect plan for our lives.”

185 years ago this week, on November 20, 1845, the first St. Vincent de Paul Conference in
the United States was formed in St. Louis, Missouri. Their goal was to be a bridge that
connected the Gospel to God’s people. The goal of the conference was to bring aid to those
who were poor, suffering, and in need. This also reminds us that our actions are an
important tool to keep the Gospel message alive. The ministry at St. Vincent de Paul in
Billings helps provide the basic necessities, such as food, clothing, utilities, and a variety of other needs.
No work of Charity is foreign to the society. We constantly work to find the best ways to meet the need of
our friends. It is through your charitable donations that we are able to continue to meet their needs. We
thank you for your continued prayers and support.
