The ZXHN H168N is a VDSL2 user access device that supports multiple transmissionmodes. In addition, the ZXHN H168N provides broadband Internet service and enterprisenetwork access service through high-speed xDSL access mode.

Chapter 1Safety PrecautionsBefore using the device, read the following safety precautions. ZTE bears no liability tothe consequences incurred by violation of the safety instructions.

l Read the user manuals before using the device.l Pay attention to all the cautions in the user manuals and on the product.l To avoid fire or product damage, do not use accessories that are not related to this

2.1 Product IntroductionThe ZXHNH168N is a DSL subscriber access device. The ZXHNH168N adopts computernetwork and broadband network access technologies to build a household network center,which interconnects network devices at your home to access the Internet through thehigh-speed DSL or 3G access mode.

The ZXHN H168N features four 10/100Base-T Ethernet user interfaces, one USBinterface, WAN access interface and the wireless access function that complies with theIEEE 802.11b/g/n standard. It provides users with diversified, personalized, convenient,comfortable, safe, and efficient services.

WPS WiFi Protected Setup.

WLAN WLAN button, used to switch on/off WLAN.

Reset Reset button, which can restore the factory default settings when pressed for

more than 5 seconds in power-ON state.

Power Power jacket. It is connected to the power adapter.

LAN1–LAN4 RJ-45 port. It is used to connect the modem to computer or other network

devices.

DSL RJ-11port. Using the telephone line to connect the modem with the VDSL2

cable or splitter.

USB USB port, to connect printer, USB storage or 3G adapter.

• The WPS/WLAN button and USB interface is on a side of the ZXHN H168N.

3.1 Configuring TCP/IPThis procedure introduces how to configure TCP/IP for the ZXHN H168N deviceconfiguration.

To ensure that the ZXHN H168N device accesses the Internet successfully, confgure thecomputer address in the same network segment as the ZXHN H168N address.

The default network settings for the ZXHN H168N are as follows:

l IP address: 192.168.1.1l Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0l Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

Steps

1. Configure TCP/IP.

a. In Local Area Connection Properties dialog box, select Internet Protocol(TCP/IP).

b. Click Properties to open the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box.

c. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box, select Use thefollowing IP address. Set IP address, Subnet mask, and Default gateway.For example, set the IP address to 192.168.1.7, the subnet mask to255.255.255.0, and the default gateway to 192.168.1.1.

d. Click OK.

Note:

The settings may change with the network requirements. However, perform thesteps above at the first time.

You can use the Ping command to check the connection between the computer andZXHN H168N device.

If pinging the device fails, verify the following:

l The Ethernet cable between the ZXHN H168N device and the computer is notcorrectly connected.

l The ZXHN H168N device is not powered on.l The network adapter driver is not correctly installed on the computer.l The TCP/IP settings on the computer are not correctly configured.

3.2 Login to the ZXHN H168N DeviceThis procedure introduces how to log in to the ZXHN H168N device by using the webbrowser.

The ZXHN H168N provides the web-based configuration mode. You can configure andmanage the device through the web browser. Different users have different configurationrights, as listed in Table 3-1.

PrerequisiteBefore logging in to the ZXHN H168N device, make sure that:

l The computer is correctly connected to the ZXHN H168N device.l The TCP/IP settings of the computer are configured correctly.

Steps1. Open the Internet Explorer.

2. Type http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press the Enter key. The loginpage is displayed, see Figure 3-1.

3. In the Username and Password text boxes, type the user name and password (bydefault, both are admin).

4. Click Login.

The default home window is displayed, see Figure 3-2. On the left navigation tree,click to perform the corresponding configurations.

1. On the navigation tree, click Home. The device information is displayed, see Figure4-1.

5.4.6 Configuring Port ForwardingThis procedure introduces how to confgure Port Forwarding so that a computer from theexternal network can access the LAN-side server through the WAN connection. PortForwarding provides the parameters of Port Forwarding confguration features.

If you have local servers for different services and you want to make them publiclyaccessible, you need to specify the port forwarding policy. With NAT applied, it translatesthe internal IP addresses of these servers to a single IP address that is unique on theInternet.

To the Internet users, all virtual servers on your LAN have the same IP Address. This IPAddress is allocated by your ISP. This address should be static, rather than dynamic, tomake it easier for Internet users to connect to your servers. However, you can use dynamicDNS feature to allow users to connect to your virtual servers by using a URL, instead ofan IP address.

Steps1. On the main page of the ZXHN H168N, select Internet > Security > Port Forwarding

to go to the Port Forwarding page.

5.4.7 Configuring Port TriggerThe section describes how to configurate Port Trigger. Port Trigger provides theparameters of Port Trigger configuration features.

When one port is configured to be the triggering port, if one application uses that triggeringport to setup a connection to the outside, the ZXHN H168N device will forward the outsideconnection to the internal forwarding port.

The port triggering is used to protect the ports. The system will not open these ports unlessthese ports are triggered.

The ZXHN H168N provides the following access authentication modes:l Open System

Authentication is not needed. Any client with a wireless network card can connect tothe wireless access point.

l Shared Key

This mode provides WEP encryption.

l WPA-PSK

WPA-PSK is a version of WPA. It uses the pre-shared key. WPA-PSK is similar withWEP but it is securer. The data is encrypted before transmission.

l WPA2-PSK

It is the second version of WPA-PSK.

l WPA/WPA2-PSK

It is a hybrid authentication mode.

Advertisement Time To Live The TTL for the advertisement. The advertisement will be

abandoned after it has been transferred for the specified

times by the routers. The default value is 4.

6.7 Configuring DMSThe section describes how to configurate DMS. DMS provides the parameters of DMSconfiguration features.

DMS is a multimedia server defined in DLNA protocol, which uses UPnP protocol to searchand categorize the local media files or photos, and provide VOD services for the DMP.

If the DMS function in enabled on the ZXHN H168N device, any client that supports UPnPfunction can use the specified DMP (for example, windows media player) to watch themedia files or photos stored in the USB storage device.

The version of the windows media player used for DMS function must be 11 or later, or theOS must be vista or Win 7. To enable the DMP function in OS of earlier version, specialtools, such as Intel(R) Tool for UPnP(TM) Technology or Twonky Media Manager must beinstalled.

Prerequisite

l The UPnP function is enabled.l The USB device is connected to the ZXHN H168N device.

1. On the main page of the ZXHN H168N, select Local Network > DMS to go to theDMS page.

2. Enable the DMS function, and specify the path storing the media files.

Note:

By default, the media source is /mnt, that is the root directory of the USB device. Youcan change the root directory to other directory of the USB storage device.

Prerequisite

Before upgrading software, make sure that the upgrade file is ready.
