Zipcar 101

Zipcar is car-sharing, an alternative to car ownership that gives you wheels when you want them.

• Cars are self-service and on-demand (the keys are right inside the cars!)

• 200+ cars in the Portland area & on the UP campus

• The diverse fleet lets you drive hybrids, SUVs, cargo vans and BMWs.

• Gas, insurance, maintenance, and 180 miles/day are included in every reservation

• Reservations start at $7.75/hour and $73/day

• All UP students, faculty, and staff ages 18+ are eligible for Zipcar

• Members must have had a driver’s license for at least one year in any

country worldwide

• Members must meet Zipcar’s insurance requirements:

– If you're age 21+, you must:

• Have had no more than two "incidents" (moving violations or accidents) in the past

three years and no more than one in the past 18 months.

• Have had no major violations in the past three years.

• Have had no alcohol or drug related violations in the past seven years.

– If you're age 18-20, you must:

• Have had no "incidents" (moving violations or accidents).

• Have had no major violations.

• Have had no alcohol or drug related violations.

• International drivers are welcome!

Getting started

• Visit zipcar.com/uportland

• Complete Zipcar’s online application for students

• Zipcar checks students’ driving records; most applicants

are approved in 1-3 days

• Once approved, Zipcar will mail a unique Zipcard to the

billing address provided, or you can choose to pick one up

from the local Zipcar office

• Join for only $15!
