Newsletter Sponsorship
Something new! Because we aren’t having any
weekly flowers in church, those who have signed
up are offered to sponsor a weekly newsletter. The
cost is $25.
This week’s sponsor is in loving memory of Sally
Lewitzke, whose birthday is May 22nd, from her
husband, Charlie Lewitzke.

For God is not a God of confusion, but of peace.
~ 1 Corinthians 14:33
Beloved Saints,
God delights in pointing out the order of His creation. “The sky
above proclaims His handiwork” (Psalm 19:1). “He set the earth on
its foundations” (Psalm 104:5). “Who shut in the sea with doors . . .
and set limits for it?” (Job 38:8, 10). “The law of the Lord is perfect,
reviving the soul.” (Psalm 19:7). God put things in order so that His
people may be at home on His earth and have peace.
For this reason, the Church has always been called to keep in step
with the Holy Spirit and live a well-ordered life. From our moral
behavior to our worship, the Church seeks harmony, moderation, and
wisdom. So it goes for the people of Jesus Christ, the Great Physi-
cian, who healed the sick and cast out demons, setting things in order
once more.
As I write this letter, Zion is preparing for your return to a well-
ordered house of worship. It will take some time, as there are many
servants of worship (elders, ushers, and altar guild, for example)
with whom we must share new information for setting forth the gifts
of God in a healthy and responsible way. I am thankful for volun-
teers, a church council, and a church president, Steve Zeinemann,
who are so willing and ready to work with the pastors on this task.
As our plan develops, we will share information in this newsletter
and online. In the meantime, please see the next page for our contin-
ued liturgical offerings, both online and in small groups. The
Church is like water. Water runs along the course of the environ-
ment it finds, and even so transforms it. So goes the Church, fitting
itself to changing times and even so making them far better.
Peace!
Pastor Gjerde

Catechumenate learning the gifts
Remembering examples of the faith in May
May 24: Esther Called to be queen to a pagan king of Persia
(470’s B.C.), Esther faithfully served her Lord
during some trying circumstances. Because of
her actions and the wisdom of her cousin,
Mordecai, the Jewish people averted certain
disaster by the hands of the wicked, power-
seeking Haman. Mordecai’s words of wisdom
to Esther still ring true today: “...who knows
whether you have not come to the kingdom for
such a time as this?” (Esther 6:14)

Monthly Mission Emphases:
Lutheran CORE Goal: $2,000
The purpose of Lutheran CORE can be summed up in two words
– Network and Voice. As a network, Lutheran CORE supports
and connects Lutheran individuals and congregations who seek
to live in accord with Biblical teachings and practices. As a Pro-
phetic Voice, Lutheran CORE advocates for Biblical authority
among churches of the Lutheran community.
The NEXUS Institute, Des Moines, Iowa Goal: $1,000
NEXUS exists to transform the landscape of the Lutheran Church
through innovative and intentional development of young adults
who want to be more involved in the nexus of faith, life, and the
church. It hosts week-long programs for high school students
who have completed their 9th grade year where the students en-
gage in theological learning, leadership development, and voca-
tional discernment. It operates through Grandview University.

This week’s hymn is “Crown Him with Many Crowns” LBW #170.
This hymn to Christ, first published in 1851, is filled with rich bibli-
cal imagery, reflecting the heavenly vision in the book of Revelation.
Stanza 1 presents Christ as the “King of King and Lord of Lords!”
Check out all the images presented in these passages!
Revelation 19:12 - on His head are many diadems.
Revelation 19:16 - King of kings, and Lord of lords.
John 1:29 - Behold the Lamb of God
Revelation 5:6 - [the Lamb] has been slain for humanity
Other verses that acclaim Christ as King, not only for His deity but
also for His suffering and death are:
Revelation 1:5-6; 5:9-10; 5:12-13; 17:14; and Hebrews 2:9. And
this is only stanza one!
Stanza 2 focuses in the incarnation - Jesus son of the Virgin Mary.
These Bible passages provide proof of this fact: Isaiah 7:14; John
1:14; Song of Solomon 2:1; Isaiah 35:1; Isaiah 11:10; and Revela-
tion 22:16.
Stanza 3 moves on to Jesus’ Passion - how the Lord of love shows
His true love for us. Passages that support this theme are: 1 John 4:8;
Romans 5:8; Luke 24:39; Revelation 5:6; 1 Peter 1:12; and Isaiah
6:2.
Stanzas 4 - 6 proclaim the resurrection, ascension, and continuing
reign of our Lord. “All hail Redeemer, hail! Thy praise and glory
shall not fail throughout eternity.” [Lutheran Service Book Companion to
the Hymns: vol. 1:496-497]
