The Zimmerman Note played a major role in theUnited States decision to enter World War I.

In 1917, Germany sent a note ( the Zimmerman note) to Mexico, telling it to declare war on the United States

The British intercepted this note and warned the US of what Germany had done

The United States did not believe Britain at first, and actually thought the note was forged by the British themselves.

Eventually the United States learned that Britain was telling the truth and Zimmerman himselfconfessed to it

"I cannot deny it. It is true."
