    Meet John

    John Zimmerman is a long-timesocial justice activist and former

    pastor, who came to law schoolin mid-life to help do his part tomake the criminal justice system

    more just for all; he has seenfirst hand how the system often

    mistreats both victims and de-fendants, especially when they

    are people of color or poor.

    John is running for the Demo-cratic nomination for Johnson County Attorney to endcurrent over prosecution of victimless crimes and rep

    it with a progressive approach to criminal justice.

    John is a graduate of the University of Iowa's law scand lives in Iowa City.

    ven though only 5% of Johnson County's population isrican-American, 40% of the people in the county jail areack. Even though studies show that black and whiteeople smoke marijuana at a similar rate, black people in

    hnson County are eight times more likely to be arrestedr it. And over 75% of the people in our overcrowded jail

    ave not been convicted, but are stuck in jail awaiting trial
