Audit report
To the 2015/2016 Zimbabwe East district Church of the Nazarene Assembly, hereby is the Audit report
PREAMBLE
We carried out the Church Audit for the year 2015/2016 – Zimbabwe East District; on books, accounts, records, documents and vouchers presented to us by the Church Treasurer. From our Audits we would like to report that we have managed to ascertain that the financial statements presented today by the Church Treasurer present a true and fair view of the records, and are free from any material misstatements.
Through the examination of documents presented to us, evidence obtained and evaluations of the same, we have also managed to formulate our opinion on the basis of our judgement and hereby would like to communicate that through this audit report.
It is our hope that our opinion may assist all stakeholders to effectively evaluate and seek to improve the effectiveness of our management, control and governance process.
I would like to remind the assembly that Audit is not about exposing and highlighting our strengths and weaknesses, but about bringing about transparency in our Faith. And by nature of our business, the audit process is not just about evaluating what is written in the financial books or about “my opinion”, but about what God is doing and the need to respond to what God is calling to do us as a church.
OUR FINDINGS
We would like to make mention of the following important points:
1) Our district treasurer and the finance committee are doing a great job, basing on the manner in which they have shown commitment to keeping safe and making proper financial records, accounting for all church funds, and using their skill in financial management. I took time to read also minutes from their meetings – I think we have a good team with SMART objectives.
2) Some churches managed to pay their budgets in full (5 of 33 Churches); a few came close (5 churches paid at least 50%). However, a big number paid lower or very low budgets; with 15 Churches paying Nill budgets.
16 | P a g e
3) A total of $10,479 was raised from budgets (20% of allocated budgets paid) and offerings plus district house rentals. This is less compared to money raised in at least the last 5 years. From last year we had $4,712.26 as balance brought forward. Therefore total for the year is $15,191. Total Expenditure for the year is at $14,283 all purposes.
4) 94% of Total for the year was expended. Considering the money collected during the church year; our expenditure is 136.5%. This means the district church is currently on approximately 36.5% deficit.
OUR RECOMMENDATIONS
1) We recommend to the DAB to adjust significantly the allocation of funds in expenditure were possible
2) We recommend to the DAB through the finance committee that they meet all local church leadership to discuss payments of budgets and reach reasonable payments plans; but also to hear and help out on challenges being experienced.
3) To consider many other areas of ministry that may need financing from the district. 4) To prioritize structuring of the church balance sheet; 5) Special building funds for churches need to be formulated. Especially for our churches in
Rural areas The Nazarene Health and Services in Swaziland Magazine of 1983, page 11 “In most locations the church of the Nazarene has provided a School, Church and Clinic building on the same site”. We can think about such and have faith here in Zim-East.
OUR ENCOURAGEMENT
While the picture presented from our financial statements may not be very encouraging, I would like to believe and appreciate that many pastors are doing a very big job. The dedication and commitment is highly commended. Pastor and leaders, and the district leadership; you are doing a great job to keep our church going, and our mission up, especially given the times we are in as a nation. I know some and most of you pastors have to use your own means to finance the church.
Do not be tired of doing the good work, for in due season you shall reap.
I would like to especially make mention of many who are leading churches were there are no facilities or church building. May you be encouraged and know that God will open the means to grow the ministry and have Faith, you shall build a sanctuary. Your efforts are appreciated, and your struggles are acknowledged. Do not give up; God is in control.
I had an opportunity to be there to listen to a sermon preached by Dr. R. F Zanner when he came to Zimbabwe in 1994, right here at the Avondale church. It was a Holiness message. But I remember he also mentioned something like, at times in ministry there are many frustrations, and he also experienced some here in Africa, but it was the love for God and His people that kept him going.
17 | P a g e
I encourage all those who have been fortunate to be allocated churches where there are buildings and facilities to look beyond your own needs; but to stretch out your hand, in appreciation of the favor that was bestowed upon you by God and man, to assist a brother, a sister, who may be struggling out there to carry out the mission of the Church. Help out to make it easier for them.
A COTN book, titled “following Jesus Together”, (written by Dr. Theodore P Esselstyn,1988), which details our catechism – explains on page 62 that “ The Local Church is the most important part of denominational structure. Everything else exists to help it succeed”
At the District assembly of 1977, then, Zimbabwe was called Rhodesia; they had 17 organized, and two more were to be organized in the following year. When you read the reports, (and during that time Rev Jangara was the district treasurer) you will see that churches used to contribute to help another church build; and all pastors were taken care of by their churches. 1977 was declared “The Year of the Church”. If you read on page 13 of the Assembly journal, you will see that Churches were actually awarded for increasing in their offerings eg Gillingham (Dzivarasekwa) by 25%, Glen Norah 25%, Kambuzuma 50 %, Mabvuku 50 %, Highfield 75 %, Mpopoma 100%, Mufakose 270% and Magwegwe 375%. At the 1977 assembly Rev D.I Chavunduka (the then District superintendent) said “Something I need to thank the Lord for is about how he is talking to some of our people about taking his work and church in their hearts”. He also said on page 15 of the Journal “… I will serve Him until I die” and just that he did.
CONCLUSION
As I conclude, I want to request for permission make special mention of one of us, a friend of mine, and colleague in training pastors – Rev Knowdge Mumanyi. In him I have seen and witnessed the joy of saving the Lord. So far he has worked to start 3 local churches (one in Seke, Macheke and hatfield), with the most successful one being Seke Church. Every time I hear him speak about his plans to plant more and more churches, I just always stand amazed at the excitement and enthusiasm he exudes; and just the faith I see in him. He is not afraid to do it, to try, and he is not even afraid to fail. He works hard using his own resources; and Seke church has faithfully been paying budgets of $600 (100%) every year for the last 5 years or so. Over and above that, he is really one key person in ensuring that our training program for pastors has stood the times; with him training most of our diploma students so far. This is a true testimony that as pastors, we can do it; and a very practical example among many in our midst that it is possible. In 1989 the pastor for South Suburbs church reported that “the congregation took a step of Faith and became self-support on May 7 – 1989”. May this Faith, as in the example I gave continue amongst us.
I encourage some business man and women to also assist some of our young pastors starting out with finance projects, or some basic work to raise salary as they start out in their ministry.
I say to all the pastors, no matter what mountain we may be facing, as probably indicated by the financial reports; let’s keep strong, be courageous. You will make it in Jesus name. And only
18 | P a g e
for the reason of our mission and the Love for God, lets choose to help each other build the kingdom of God; lets choose to care and to love. The kingdom of God reigns.
Humbly submitted
Oliver Chavunduka, Pastor. (District Auditor)
ZIMBABWE EAST DISTRICT ASSEMBLY DAILY PROCEEDINGS

Mai Mutambo
Rev Yambayamba
Rev Lilema
Rev Obote
Devotions: Rev Mutambo Galations 5:1-6
True Freedom: Paul is addressing the challenges that the believers in Galatians were facing. Paul comes
with a message that cuts across the cultural barriers because when the son of man set you free you are
free indeed. The same laws were used to reject Jesus. He gave a story of a leaper who shouted freedom
to his fellow villagers. This man was shouting for political freedom. Paul is talking about our freedom in
Jesus. We live in an era where people make a lot of false claims. Stand firm in Jesus. We know and hate
the triangular slave trade which took Africans to America, it was abolished yet one can still be a slave to
sin. Christ bought you out of slavery.
Set the time: 1105 to 1300
Rev Obotte, Rev Lilema and Rev Yambayamba brought greetings from the college Malawi and Zambian
Districts.
The Assembly sent greetings to Gift Mutukwa, Sean and the Katangas, Churches in Zambia and Malawi,
Rev Mutowa, Pastor Manjengwa and wife, Rev Enock Ritwere in South Africa, Rev S Kanenungo, Africa
South Field. Dr Chambo and GS, Michael Chifodya in Kenya.
The memoirs’ committee leader Rev Mrs Marwofa was not there and here team was not ready so the
chairman asked the former DSs: Mungure Kanenungo and Mukome to lead the proceedings.
The DS was asked to give his report.

ZIMBABWE EAST DISTRICT ASSEMBLY
2015-2016
District Superintendent Report
Introduction
Greetings to the General Superintendent, Regional Director, field strategy coordinator, pastors,
department leaders, delegates and all visitors here present, a warm welcome.
With me here is a report for the Zimbabwe East District covering 2015-2016. I humbly stand before you
and thank God for His wonderful and shepherding ministry throughout this last year. Psalms 23 is the
right scripture for this momentous occasion. Of great importance to me is the verse four which says,
“Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your
rod and staff they comfort me”. By His grace we are here today.
My report is a composition of the good work done by all Nazarenes in this district. The following teams
were major players during our past church year: District Advisory Board; SDMI;NMI; NYI; Women
fellowship; Men’s fellowship and Children’s Ministry. These wonderful teams helped coordinate the
work of ministry in our district. On the forefront of the battlefield are the pastors; their wives and
children fighting the devil from all directions. Quoting one layman from our local church, he once said,
“We have to respect the pastors and their families because their position in the battlefield is that of
Uriah”.
Church members you are our source of encouragement especially when you pray for us and our
families. Paul petitioned the Ephesians to pray for him and we do ask you to do the same for us. You are
the unsung heroes of the spiritual revolution. Not to be forgotten is the school of extension team that
works tirelessly without any meaningful support given to them. We value your dedication to God’s
vineyard.
Organized Churches
We can celebrate together the organization of two preaching points that have graduated to become
organized churches. Close to the Harare International Airport we have the Green Valley Church of the
Nazarene. Remember last year it was Golden Valley and the Lord added green to the golden color. It will
not come as a surprise to have a Golden Green Valley Church of the Nazarene in few years to come. On
the far eastern side of Harare we now have Fountain of Grace Church of the Nazarene. You will all agree
with me when I say by Grace we are what we are.
Pastor Masuka is the one overseeing the flock at the Green Valley and Pastor Hove is in charge of
Fountain of Grace. Congratulations to Tafara and Highfield Churches for giving birth to preaching points
that have become organized churches.
New Pastors
20 | P a g e
The district welcomes Elvis Bvochora from Nazarene Theological College in Malawi who graduated in
May this year and joined the pastoral team. With new pastors come new areas of ministry. The church
has planted work in Zvimba, Seke rural, Snake Park and Sakubva. More on this will come from zone
leaders.
Church Status
Unfortunately we have a hard time trying to demarcate between self-supporting churches and
struggling ones because every local church is theoretically self-supporting yet some are practically not
managing. The district is not rendering any meaningful support to some weak congregations due to the
harsh economic conditions. Very few big churches have managed to nurse the newly born babie and we
say keep up the good work.
Meetings
It is common knowledge that our district is divided into zonal areas. Zones have been in the past year
been taske to organize their own Easter camps. All teams on the seven zones managed to host
successful Easter Camp meetings. I was blessed to be able to visit four of the meetings namely; Eve,
Cherub, Camel and Rehoboth. Each zone has used the camp to reach out the surrounding areas with the
gospel of salvation. By public petition we are going to have zone Easter Camp again next year.
Pastors and wives had a refreshing outing at Lake Chivero. It was time for resting but we also had few
lessons and preaching. Thank you NMI for raising funds that enabled us to pay for Lake Chivero
accommodation, food and transport.
Bindura was the venue for women’s annual meeting. This was a special time for holiness revivalism and
teaching of lessons. Everyone present felt the power of Holy Spirit throughout the anointed moments of
preaching, prayer, teaching and praise. Few men from the district men’s team visited Bindura to
exchange few notes on how to successfully run camp meetings.
Slowly, but surely men are taking big strides at district level. This year we went for camp meeting in
Goromonzi. For three days we committed ourselves to prayer, lessons and preaching. May men sought
the Lord for spiritual strength to run our homes with God’s help. This year’s men’s fellowship camp got a
lot of feedback from women for positive improvements.
SDMI convention took place at Mbare Church of the Nazarene. There was in encouraging turn out with
nearly every church represented. Business was smooth and Mr Mwembe was given a vote of
confidence.
NYI did not manage to have a convention for the first time. This was attributed to some civil unrest in
the country. The second attempt did not pull enough delegations. After some considerations it was
called off. We are now focusing on December 2016 for a fruitful convention. I hope this won’t impact
negatively on the Regional conference to be held in South Africa. We appeal to regional leadership to
shed more light on the conference.
21 | P a g e
As mentioned before NMI is always busy teaching and encouraging members to raise funds for
supporting God’s work.
St Peters Kubatana was a perfect venue for our children’s holiday camp. We salute the leaders of this
ministry for working so hard towards the success of this conference. It was a miracle that you grouped
children together and conducted a successful camp. I praise the Lord for your dedication and may all the
wings of the Church support this ministry.
Statistics
Here are some figures I believe will benefit us:
1. Zones 7
2. Ordained Elders 25
3. Licenced pastors 31
4. Retired 3
5. Lay Pastors 3
6. Marriage Officers 5 –those awaiting results 3
7. Full members last year 4663
8. Organised churches 36
9. Chaplins 2
The names of our Old marriage officers are Rev Kanenungo and Rev Baselemu. The Newly qualified ones
are Rev Mutatu, Rev Goredema and Rev Katandika. This year’s membership is not yet in place because
we had late submissions of reports by some few churches.
We want to give a special recognition too all churches with some preaching points of which Highfields is
the leader.
Evangelism
Most of the churches had some revivals and crusades. We encourage our zones to put resources
together and help small churches which are struggling.
One district gathering happened in Kuwadzana and the emphasis was on our articles of faith. This
gathering was well attended and it saw many souls seeking God’s guidance.
To The General Superintended, Regional Field Director, and Field and Strategic Coordinator I would like
to thank you on behalf of Zimbabwe East District for your gesture of love towards us. No 98 Nigel Phillip
22 | P a g e
formerly occupied by our missionaries has been handed over to the District for use as the DS’ residence
and 24 Morton Jeffrey provides offices to various ministries of both the Field and District.
Death Notice
I sadly announce the passing on of our beloved mother, Amai Banda. She was one of the longest serving
members of the District. She finally departed to be with the Lord after long battles with various
sicknesses. The church stood with her firmly and finally laid her body to rest in Masvingo. We say may
her soul rest in eternal peace.
As if this was not enough we were robbed of our vibrant member of NYI, Daniel Murembu. Daniel was
close to finish his theological studies in Malawi. He died in his room on a Sunday night without showing
any sign of the impending departure. Daniel’s remains were transported to Zimbabwe and this brave
son of Zimbabwe was buried home. May his spirit rest in eternal peace.
We will always miss these two gallant members of our team and family.
Looking ahead
Prayerfully we are looking ahead and wishing to accomplish the following:
1 Paying of our local, district and general budgets
2 Bring about great revival in new areas
3 Strongly supporting our institutions of Theology
4 Vigorously support NTCCA and Extension programs
5 Erect structures for the purpose of worship
6 Be a part of the field vision of reaching more urban areas with the holiness message.
7 Pray to God that we will be alive when Midlands becomes a District.
Word of Encouragement
Times are hard in Zimbabwe but greater still is the hand of God. He is blessing us like never before. Let
us not despair. We should stick to biblical principles and pray more. Psalm 31:5 tells us that “For his
anger endures but for a moment. In his favour is life. Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in
the morning.
With your unwavering support I have managed to travel the rough terrain of this spiritual journey. I pray
that al will be well this year. God bless you all and your families.
I extend my special gratitude to the special prayer group that fasted and prayed for around 250 days for
the whole church of the Nazarene. May God bless you and give you more hunger and thirst to continue
interceding for the church.

Sunday School Life Director Report
Grace and peace to you all brothers and sisters: Special greetings to the General
Superintendent; Regional Director; Field Strategy Coordinator; District Superintendent,
Pastors, other district leaders, Sunday School Teachers and all delegates here present.
Brothers and sisters, as a remainder to us all, the mission of the Church of the Nazarene is
to respond to the GREAT COMMISSION of Jesus Christ - to go and make disciples of
all nations (Matthew 28 v 19).
In responding to the overall mission of the Sunday school and Discipleship Ministries,
this year the district held a day of prayer and fasting - on 1 May 2015. Local church
leadership, that is, pastors, local church board members and Sunday school teachers
gathered at Mbare church of the Nazarene praying. Rev. Kanenungu was the guest
speaker who inspired delegates for a prayerful Christian life. Thank you all pastors for
supporting this day of prayer and fasting.
In order for our local churches to respond to the great commission of Jesus Christ, the
Sunday School and Disciples Ministries requested all local churches to embark on prayer
and fasting every first Monday of every month. The main aim of prayer and fasting was
for every local Church to teach its members the true word of God until the members are
saved; sanctified and become holy in all aspects of their life (1 Peter 1:16). Thank you all
local church leadership for observing prayer and fasting every Monday.
32 | P a g e
As the District Life Director I am glad to report to this assembly that: The Children’s
Ministry held a successful camp meeting at Farm View Lodge; the Women’s fellowship
had a wonderful camping meeting in Marondera; the Men’s fellowship had an excellent
camp meeting at Habitat of Hope; the Youth Ministry had an exceptional camp meeting
in Marondera. I extend my profound thanks to the leaders of these wonderful ministries
for leading the flock of Jesus Christ to a holy life.
Last but not least; I extend my gratitude to Rev. Mumanyi for his continued support of
the SSDMI in availing relevant literature for use in our Sunday school lessons. With
God’s grace and mercy, I hereby persuade all delegates here present to uphold and adhere
to the fundamental values and principles of the church of Nazarene doctrine.
I salute the DS; all pastors; the SSDMI Board and local teachers for supporting the
SSDMI activities.
Special thanks are extended to my beloved wife and children.
God bless you all.

9. Zone Reports.
ZONE ONE: REPORT
I report that, not much activity took place in our Zone. But we managed to meet as with the
pastors in our Zone.
The main issue was to establish ourselves how we can meet the needs of our local Zone
Churches. We agreed to come up with a committee composed of the Chairman, the Treasure,
Secretary and two committee members.
33 | P a g e
On the same not we agreed that we establish a witnessing team of our Zone, that will help do
the witnessing in our local Zone. Churches when invited by any of our local Zone Churches.
We also agreed to have our first witnessing operations in Buhera. Since they cannot regularly
attend our meetings because of distance we will go there. We have a pending Zone gathering
of which all our Zone churches will be notified soon after this district Assembly. I urge all
our Zone churches not to miss this gathering since it is first of its kind.
On a sad note: We also need to let this Assembly know that during the year we lost Pastor N.
Jangara. We also have pastor Mumanyi and his wife lost newly born baby:’ we have also lost
some members in our local churches. These were unpleasant moments.
We also recently have Rev T Makomo and his wife involved in a near fatal accident. Thank
God for they did not sustain heavy injuries.
