Speaking of Scholarships

One of the many wonderful advantages of being a member of Delta Kappa Gammais being eligible for a scholarship. Not only do we give scholarships but we receivescholarships, too.

To qualify for a scholarship at the international level, the applicant must:

Be an active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society for a minimum of threeyears.

Provide evidence of active participation and of demonstrated leadership.

Have completed a bachelors degree or equivalent.

Be accepted and enrolled in a graduate program of a nationally accredited

institution of higher education, preferably pursuing a doctoral degree.

Have not received an international scholarship previously.

Provide evidence of excellence in scholarship.

Provide evidence of service to the community.

If you would rather give than receive a scholarship, please submit the name of adeserving women who needs a scholarship to help in the completion of her degree.

The Scholarship Committee needs these names and a completed application soon.Zeta Xi is using the monies collected from the Scholarship Untea.

Remember to wear your membership pin and enter your name in the drawing for a

Remember to bring birthday pennies if youve had a recent birthday.

Bring loose change for Schools for Africa Project.

Bring the name of your scholarship nominee to submit to the scholarship committee.

Invite that special lady to visit Zeta Xi so she can learn more about our wonderfulorganization Delta Kappa Gamma.

June 21-23, 2012 is the 83rd Texas State Convention of Delta Kappa Gamma in LasColinas. Its time to make your reservations for this wonderful learning opportunity.

July 19-21, 2012 is the Seminar in Purposeful Living to be held at the Hyatt RegencyCrystal City in Washington, D.C. Register soon space is limited.

July 24-28, 2012 is the International Convention in New York City at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers. Four members are attending. Can you attend?

Chapter Meeting MinutesFebruary 6, 2012

President, Lois Templeton, called the meeting to order at 7:00 in the home of Natalie Eustace with 22 members

 present, plus two potential members Marsha Boykin and Kathy Graves. Cindy Shrenkle, guest of Nancy Doss wasalso present. Lois thanked our hostesses, including Natalie, Dorothy Thompson, Jean Alvey, Linda Brown, andherself. Members answered roll call with the question ³Who was your first Valentine?´

Ron Ellison, Bereavement Clinical Supervisor from Hospice Midland, gave a very informative program on MedicalDirectives and how important it is to have all documents filled out and current.

Virginia Conner announced our next meeting would be in the home of Kathy Anderson with MISD Superintendent of Schools and Midland College President. The April program will be the ³Sunshine Girls´ at Helen Greathouse Manor.Our May program will be our installation of officers with a salad supper in the home of Nancy Doss.

Anita Patton read a thank you note from Jann Pullig for the donation to Storybook Christmas in her honor. She also

read a thank you note from Jean Alvey thanking Zeta Xi for the donation to Storybook Christmas in memory of her mother, Eunice Mathis.

Membership Chairman, Lois Hagins, reported that Susan McNew would like to be re-instated as a member. Then, JoyCunningham introduced potential member Marsha Boykin; and Linda Brown introduced Kathy Graves. Themembership then voted to have them join our Zeta Xi organization. Congratulations!! Celia Munoz had already beenvoted on so all three will be initiated at our next meeting. Our March meeting will begin at 6:00 so initiation can take place before our speakers arrive.

Patti Groce, newsletter editor, would like to know of any newsworthy events by our membership that can be includedin the Newsletter.

The Nominating Committee, consisting of Nancy Doss, Susan Harmon and Dorothy Thompson announced our slateof officers for the next bi-ennium: President, Lois Hagins; 1st Vice President, Patti Groce; 2nd Vice President,Darlene Olson; Recording Secretary, Jan Perkins; Corresponding Secretary, Martha Savage; and Treasurer, SusanHarmon.

 New Business: Natalie Eustace discussed Schools for Africa and how the concentration is on educating girls, workingwith UNICEF, programs for mentoring new teachers, and working with other Texas Chapters on their concentratedefforts to better education.

Announcements included Lois reminding us of the Convention in Las Colinas from June 21-23.

Pat Adams gave thanks for donations in memory of Leonard Hobbs,(husband of Joyce Hobbs), Eunice Mathis

(mother of Jean Alvey), and Charles McNerney, (husband of Nancy McNerney).

The meeting adjourned with the singing of the Delta Kappa Gamma song.

 Letter from Lois We had such a great turn-out for our February chapter meeting at Natalie Eustace¶s newly renovated home!Wasn¶t it fun to see the nice changes that Tom & Natalie have done to their lovely home? Thanks, Natalie,for coordinating the wonderful array of refreshments and thanks to Jan Perkins, Dorothy Thompson, Jean

Alvey, and Lois Templeton for bringing them.

We also want to thank Virginia Conner for planning an informative program by Ron Ellison concerningmedical directives. It helps to get advice and help with such important matters that affect all of us. Wewere glad to see first-time guest Cindy Shrenkel at our meeting and to vote Cathey Graves and MarshaBoykin into membership. We are also happy to hear of Susan McNew¶s reinstatement.

At our next meeting on Monday, March 5th

, at Kathy Anderson¶s home at 906 Neely Avenue we willinitiate Cathey and Marsha into our Zeta Xi chapter along with Celia Munoz who was voted intomembership in November. We will welcome these new members into our chapter during the refreshmentsthat will follow the initiation.

Our program will follow the refreshment period and will be presented by representatives of MidlandCollege and Midland ISD who will discuss local education issues. We will also vote on the exciting slate of officers that was presented at the February meeting by our Nominations Committee.

Please remember to bring loose change for DKG¶s Schools for Africa project. Last month¶s collectionamounted to about $50. Also, be sure to invite prospective members to come to our meeting to see what adynamic chapter we have.

I look forward to seeing all my Zeta Xi friends on Monday!
