2018 POTENTATERandy Burr
&Lady Agnes
Nobles,
I had a chance to be at an event that had a couple of our hospital patients speak. The first was a young woman in her first year of college. She is the current Miss Northeast Pennsylvania for 2018. When she was young she had severe hip problems that disabled her from walking. Her grandfather was a Shri-ner who got her into our hospital in Philadelphia. After several operations, she now walks perfectly. What is really amazing, she is now raising money for the Shriners and is also majoring in pre-med to become a doctor. Her goal is to become an orthopedic surgeon in our hospital system to be able to give back the care and love that we provided for her. The second was a young man who was born with one foot shorter than the other. He also walks fine after several operations. What was really fascinating with both of these patients is that neither one considers themselves handicapped, but are thankful that the Shriners Hospital provided the help to allow them to be able to have a normal life. Hearing these testimonials makes my heart thump because I am so proud to be a part of this organization we call the Shriners. That is why we do what we do. Remember to please sell and push as many tickets as you possibly can. In the end, by raising funds to be able to maintain our Temple and our Clubs you can see the final results up above. Since it is parade season, be there, wear your fez, have a huge smile, let the public see who we are and why we are there and please attend as many club events as you possibly can and remember it is about the kids and the fun. Yours in the Faith, Randy
First Lady Summer is upon us. Time for picnics, outings and traveling. Please remember when out and about mention what a wonderful Jewelry Jackpot we have and try to sell some tickets for this event. Also we have the Henry Shriners Rifle to raffle off at the Summer Cere-monial. Sue Knox had also donated a beautiful afghan that she has made we will be raffling this off at the Sportsman Raffle. If anyone wants any tickets please see me or any Divan member. The Branson trip is around the corner and we are anxiously waiting for the day to get here. In closing I wish everyone happy and safe travels wherever they go.
Yours in the Faith,Lady Agnes

NOTES FROM THE RECORDER…..
Shriners Hospitals for Children – Erie will be celebrating Community Days on June 3rd from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. There will be tours of the hospital where you will get a chance to view the new EOS Imaging machine, a car show and much more. This is a great family event and an opportunity
to view the different hospital departments.
To all of our hospital transportation drivers. Thank you for taking the time to drive our patients and families to and from our hospitals in Erie, Cincinnati and Philadelphia. Your dedication is greatly appreciated. Recently we have noticed that some of the trips are made with only one driver. This is in violation of Shrine regulations. Every trip must have a driver and a co-driver. The co-driver may be another Shriner or the wife of a Shriner. All drivers over the age of 70 must also complete an Annual Drivers Certification Form. If you are unable to provide two drivers for the trip, then the trip should be canceled.
A few years back we changed the terminology from Point Functions to Temple Functions. When me made the change, we stopped paying the units and clubs point money and started the awards banquet where the clubs and units are rec-ognized at a dinner. When the Potentate designates an event as a Temple Function, all units and clubs are expected to attend. No other functions should be organized or planned for that day. Please respect the wishes of the Potentate and attend all Temple Function events.
The parade season has started. In May the Temple par-ticipated in the Erie Zoo Parade and the Fryburg Mayfest Parade. A special thanks to the Erie County S.C. and the Cycle Corps for hosting the troops after the Zoo parade and to Clarion County S.C. and Trykes for hosting the troops after the parade in Fryburg.
Hope to see several Zem Zem Nobles attending the Poten-tate’s Ball. This is always a great event and an opportunity to honor the Potentate and socialize with visiting Nobles from other Temples.
We have a few Nobles that still owe dues for 2018. Two no-tices have been sent so far this year. Shriners International bylaws require dues to be paid by 12-31-17 for your 2018 dues. For those that still owe, please get that check signed and mailed to the Temple. I’m here to help. Need questions answered regarding bylaws, protocol or Shrinedom in general, I’m just a phone call away.
Until next time…..

I will continue her mission for Shriners Hospital as well as the Zem Zem Lady’s Project “Wheelchair Fund” at Shriners Hospital.I will be attending numerous events this summer and fall, promoting the project at the Shriners Hospital-Erie.“LOVE” for children is our mission.
Thanks,John Seastead
Oriental BandWell the band is back on the street. Our flying carpet has been repaired and made its debut at the Zoo Parade and did well. No flat tires so that was a positive sign. The horn players, yes all FOUR of us had a practice and did well. However, there is always room for improvement for the next parade. I forgot to mention our out of town horn player made an appearance with us at the Zoo Parade. He said there was too much snow up here to make a trip from Pittsburgh. But now that the flowers are up, it’s okay. Thanks Jim, we like you.Our director has returned from a trip to the sand, but that doesn’t mean VA Beach. He was wearing sandals and possi-bly a turban. He will finish the story, just ask.Bill Readshaw has had some issues and is recovering from a hip fracture. From what I understand he is doing well. Go get ‘em Bill!I would like to say a few remarks on the recover of Emily from another surgery on May 14th at Shriners Erie. She is a real fighter. I will be selling Emily’s Beads for Needs. Any concerns, please contact me.See you at the parades,John

Greetings! The parade season has started and we have the Zoo Parade, Mayfest Parade, and the Posting of the Col-ors for Hospital Days behind us. The next parade is July 21st in Oil City with details to follow. We have been able to move the family picnic to the 8th of July at Erepa Grotto at 1pm in Erie following the Pancake Breakfast scheduled in the morning at 8am. Cost of the Pancake Breakfast is $7.00 and no reservations are required. The Zem Zem LOH Officers are in need of the members support with ideas and guidance as how to make our events and functions better attended. The units viability depends on the support of its mem-bers, come to a meeting or event and make your voice heard. The LOH has a long-standing position of leading the parades with the colors and we have an opportunity to lead the MASA parade in VA Beach this year. Ill. Sir Keith McKnight is the current MASA President and has assured me of that. Let’s make the Zem Zem Legion of Honor stand tall at the beach. The monthly 50/50 was $220 and not won, the name pulled was Steve Ongley, P.P. We will draw again at the next meeting to see if we can give the mon-ey away. If you have not paid your 2018 Dues and are unable to, please contact an LOH Officer or submit the dues to Adjutant Gene Zook. The next meeting is July 17th, 7:30pm at the Temple.
