However, I think we all fall into the trap of ‘doing nothing’

when winter comes around. So in this month’s issue, we

bring you tips and tricks for winter (and some for summer

too!)

Page 6: Zandra Issue 1

- Try not to fall into the habit of waking up at 10 each morning of the holidays!

- Even though it’s winter, try to stay active! Don’t just lounge around all day

- Eat and drink hot food

- Dress appropriately! Even if you miss summer, don’t wear shorts & a t-shirt!

- Snuggle up with blankets & hoodies etc.

- Enjoy a break from the 30+ heat

Follow these tips and you may just have a better winter

than your last!

Winter calls for hoodies, tracksuit pants, slippers and any other piece

of warm clothing! The best thing about winter clothes is that

they’re so comfy! For the winter season, instead of trying to

look stylish, just GO FOR COMFORT! Who cares if you go

outside in uggs? Just be comfortable and warm!

of warm clothing. The best thing about winter clothes is that they’re

so comfy! For the winter season, instead of trying to look stylish, just

GO FOR COMFORT! Who cares if you go outside in your uggs?

Just be comfortable and & warm!

Check out these stores for winter items! They’re good quality & an

affordable price! Most of them are available in stores as well as online

- So that’s always a bonus!

Page 11: Zandra Issue 1

Dressing Practically For Winter

DO wear tracksuit

pants! They’re a great

alternative to jeans or

leggings & they’re

also super comfy!

DO wear long

sleeved tops &

jumpers! Also try

knitted jumpers. If

you’re going to wear

a t-shirt or singlet,

make sure you’ve got

a nice warm jumper

for on top!

DO wear boots, uggs,

runners or any other closed

toe shoe! In fact, many

people feel fine wearing

open toed shoes in winter

as well as summer. Shoes

are great as there are so

many possibilities!

DON’T wear

shorts or skirts

unless you’re

going to be inside

where it is warm!

Outside, you’ll

freeze!

DON’T go places

without taking a

jumper (or spare

jumper) in your bag!

You never know when

the weather could

change.

DON’T wear socks that are

at risk of being too tight to

bed. They can cause you to

have bad circulation. Wear

socks that are a

comfortable tightness.

basics everyone needs!

Many of us are probably

counting down till those long, sunny days, the beach & pools, shorts & t-shirts and mostly, just summer in itself! But with summer also comes the bad things – those weeks with 35+ days every day, sunburn and flies! There are items though, to make your summer better. Starting with suitable clothing, which includes - t-shirts, singlets, shorts, bathers, thongs and anything else to keep you happy. Sandals are good too

if you’re looking for a less casual look! Printed tees are becoming more popular so grab some of them if you can! Sunburn can easily be avoided – with sunscreen! One patch of sunburn

can cause skin cancer and no one wants that. If you’re out of insect repellent soak lavender oil on a sponge for 24 hours, it’ll keep the flies away!

Page 13: Zandra Issue 1
Page 14: Zandra Issue 1

Don’t be afraid to wear anything that

makes you comfortable in winter, or for any season on that matter! Surviving winter (regarding clothing) is simply about being prepared. You can’t except to be warm if you go out in a hail storm in summer clothes! Dress appropriately and you’ll be fine.

Also make sure you’re nice and warm for bed. Isn’t it the worst when you wake up in the middle of the night freezing cold but can’t be bothered getting up to get a blanket!? Argh it sucks! Even if you don’t think you’ll get cold it’s a good idea to keep extra blankets on the end of your bed.

Keep your hands and head warm with beanies and gloves. Mittens are great as well.

Spring is one of those ‘in-

between’ seasons when it’s not too hot but not too cold. Frustrating right!? But it’s also great, as you can wear your summer & winter clothes. For example – a summer singlet with a winter hoodie works great in winter!

My name is Jenna & I am 15 years old. I’m a Greek-

Italian who loves photography. I live on the

beach – like all good aussies should!

Spring is also known for its gorgeous

colours. Don’t be afraid to wear bold

colours and experiment with different styles. Flowers are also

great to wear and put around your room or house!

Finding your true friends The perfect picnic with

friends

Types of friends

Activities to do with

friends in all seasons Are you a clingy friend?

Pets are friends too!

Page 21: Zandra Issue 1

In the teen years,

finding new friends

is great! However

for some, it can

sometimes be a

challenge. Many

people will change

their friendship

group each year of

school but still keep

in touch with their

old friends. And

don’t worry, this is

totally normal! A

lot of people say

that you find your

true friendship

group in year 9 or

10 but some have

been friends for

longer – which is

fine! The main

thing about friends

is just making sure

that you become

friends with people

that you feel

comfortable and

happy around.

True friends

shouldn’t make you

feel nervous or

intimidate you. You

should feel free

around your

friends. And

remember what

they say! - The

uglier the Snapchat,

the closer the

friendship! Make

weird faces and

comments in front

of your friends,

chances are, they’ll

have a laugh, not

care at all, then do

the same!

BEST FRIEND I think everyone knows

what a bestie is! Someone who you can

share almost everything with and be absolutely

crazy around!

KNOWN EACH OTHER FOR EVER FRIEND

These are those friends that you’ve known for almost your whole life but don’t get to see

them too often. Could be because you went to

different schools or even just because you feel out of

touch. LIKE SISTERS FRIEND

This is when you and your best friend have taken it even further and become practically sisters! You do everything together and are the bestest of best

friends.

NOT SO CLOSE ANYMORE FRIEND

It’s normal to fall out of contact with lots of your

friends. Making the change from primary school to high

school is an example of when you fall out of contact with some of your friends.

NOT FRIENDS Most people will have

someone that they dislike for a reason. And that’s

normal. But then again – don’t worry if you don’t dislike anyone! Disliking

certain people is something that many people will

experience throughout life

KINDA FRIENDS These are those

friends that you don’t necessarily hang out with but still give a

friendly hello or smile when you walk past

A lot of people will have friends similar to some of these!

Having a clingy friend can eventually

become frustrating if they start to interfere with your everyday tasks. But what’s even

classified as clingy? We asked some of you for answers and received some great input!

Take some time to

actually read these,

they’re quite informative

Many of us have or

will experience

a clingy friend

Imagine you’re being told that you’re clingy

and try to avoid any way that would hurt your

feelings.

Intrude her to other people.

Reduce the time you spend with her if you’re always together.

Before approaching your friend, assess

whether she is actually clingy or not.

Inform her that you’re quite busy and

sometimes need some alone time without her. Try not to directly say that you think she is

clingy

Don’t just start ignoring everything your friend says or does as this will

make her upset.

If your friend is upset or stressed, they can become

clingier. However only approach them if they’re

constantly clingy

Page 26: Zandra Issue 1

AND SOMETIMES BEST FRIENDS!

Having your pet as your friend or best friend is something that a lot of people have in common. Everyone loves their pets and has a strong bond between them. The cutest thing about owner and pet relationships

is that neither of them have ever understood each other’s language! Yet, there is still such a strong bond. Many of us love having a good old chat to our pets, even if they don’t respond.

Hi my name is Maddie, I am 12 turning 13 & in year 7. I love my dog Daisy & love all

animals & hate seeing them get hurt. I enjoy hanging out with my friends, going

crazy & laughing a lot. My favourite subject at school is art & I love being able

to be crafty in my spare time.

Exercising is a very

important part of our

daily lives. Even just

walking to your

locker, or to the fridge

or walking home

counts as exercise!

Many of us will also

do a physical activity

after school as well,

which is a great way

to get some exercise!

There are many

benefits of exercise.

Some of which

include…

Keeps you healthy.

Feel good about

yourself.

Gets you more fit.

Gives you something

to do instead of just

being online.

Good for you!

So why not exercise?

Well, there are many

reasons, the main one

being that most of us

just can’t be bothered!

However, committing

yourself and making a

schedule for exercising

is a great way to make

sure that you do it.

Our bodies love

exercise, so keep on

moving!

Page 37: Zandra Issue 1

Yes, it can be hard to motivate yourself to exercise,

especially in winter! However, our own mind is usually our

bodies’ biggest limiter! Push yourself as much as you can so

that you can then look back and be really happy with

yourself. Don’t let your mind tell you that you can’t or that

you must stop, let your body decide that by letting your

body…

Making excuses is easy, taking action over them isn’t!

Page 38: Zandra Issue 1
Page 39: Zandra Issue 1

Setting achievable goals is a great way to loose or

maintain your body weight. For your goals to be successful, you must be motivated! Motivation can be gained from lots of little things. Even something as simple as listening to fitness music can get you motivated! But your biggest motivator is yourself. Try to motivate yourself to achieving your goals. Remember to make those goals, realistic so that you feel good when you reach them and don’t feel upset if your never reach them. Mini goals are good too. This is having smaller goals that you finish quicker. Either way, any type of goal is a good goal and a good way to keep you fit and healthy.

Page 45: Zandra Issue 1

This is a simple idea for a

gift. Write messages or

coupons in hearts and

then draw over them in

white crayons. Then, go

over the messages in any

type of paint. Once dry,

the paint is able to be

easily scratched off

without removing the

writing. It is a lovely but

simple idea!

Page 46: Zandra Issue 1

For these shorts, flick bleach at them (or paint the bleach

directly on if you’re good with making splatter patterns!)

Once dry, colour in the bleach with highlighters. This will

only last a couple of washes, however try using beetroot

and it will stain forever!

Page 47: Zandra Issue 1

This tutorial is pretty self-

explanatory. Paint your nails

with clear polish and then dip

into glitter. Wipe away the

sides with nail polish remover.

Clouds lights are

actually super

easy! Simple use

a hot glue gun to

glue stuffing or

fluff around a

lantern. Most

lanterns come

with lights in

them, but if not,

you can just use a

mini torch light

or flameless

candle! Once

you’ve glued

enough around,

you’re done.
