ummer festival, which was celebrated on the 26th of SDecember, 2009 at ZIS

(Zaman International School) gave us something special and interesting to view. Summer festival has just been celebrated for three years. However, everything went smoothly. Also, it gave all the female students a chance t o en joy an even t together. For me, this is just my f ist year at ZIS, which also means that it was my first time at this ceremony. After I arrived my feeling changed. I knew lots of people there. What do you do there? We have special events like dancing, singing, selling food, a lucky draw, eating and playing games. At this the third celebration of the summer festival at ZIS, I no t i ced tha t we had many different activities, but unfortu-nately before the party started we first had to set up and arrange our equipment. To do this, most of the students and I had arrived at the school by 7 am. We all looked very happy as we got ready to share with others what

we had practiced for. The time passed very quickly. Then we heard it was nearly 9 o’clock, which made all of us more in a hurry and feel so enthusiastic. The f i rst act iv i ty star ted. Students from 11E class went up on the stage. Suddenly, they were surrounded by al l the

students there including me. During the loud music that followed we enjoyed a Khmer song. That was fantastic. After that, the second activity began. Does anyone know what that was? It was the lucky draw that a l l peop le there , even our teachers, were waiting for. There

The Fabulous Moment of Summer Festival

applied by the ladies from 10F. In the meantime, a third activity was going on in a large area reserved for selling refresh-ments. The food smel led yummy with the aroma of sushi, hotdogs, noodles…. Those delicious foods were made by the 7E class. Lastly, an interesting group from 12F also showed their splendid abilities. Were they singing or dancing or what? Yes, of course, they were dancing as a group of f ive people while singing a Turkish song. Nice, lovely, charming, perfect describes it. Also, the last part of the lucky draw with the big present was coming up. Everybody stood all around the stage holding their number and waiting for the big gift to be given away. Number after number had been called already in the previous draws. There were just two more gifts at the end, the bicycle and laptop. Who could get those? Woo hoo, the bicycle soon belonged to someone from 8E and the laptop went to a student from 9E. Taking everything into consideration, this was a most pleasurable occasion for all Zaman’s students and it was held with excitement, fun and warmth. Hopefully, I’d like to enjoy this kind of wonderful event again soon in the future.

Next, Achara from the first lucky class walked across the middle of the stage while the music was playing. Again, what would she do, we all wondered? Suddenly, ahh… she was singing a happy song in Turkish. We listened to it in a good mood and we couldn’t believe it was the same song we had listened to before. Time passed in a flash, and the lucky draw started. This time a gift was given to our Turkish teacher, Mrs Kadriye, and some more gifts were given to teachers from other classes. One third of the students were looking down at their own lucky draw number, hoping and waiting for a teacher to call out the number. But still most of them continued to wait.

"Sing a song as a couple in English" had arrived. Who were they? The most delightful class from 10E. The first line of the song was "Saw you from a distance, saw you from the stage’’ Can you guess what the title is? That song was sung by the two fabulous voices of Visoth and Cheata. Following that was a pop dance by the dancing group that had already shown their special ability. It was so amazing and I liked what they performed because they danced to a K o r e a n s o n g w i t h o u t a n y coaching from the teachers. They had made up their own g roup and p rac t i ced i t by themselves and the result was perfect. They have talent. The

third section of the lucky draw came up. The winning of the big gift had nearly arrived. This time the mp3 player went to some-body from 10E class, the flash was won by someone from 8E class and more teddy bears had been presented to members of the wonderful classes of 11F and 12E. What time was it by then? Oh, it was about 10 o’clock in the morning. Now it was time to play games. There were many games such as, bungee jumping on the basketball field, pulling the rope in the football field, balloon shooting, which was across from water jumping, a tomatoes dance, bag jumping, and face painting that was prepared and

Are they glad to living there? Have they gotten used to Turkish food and the Turkish people or are they suffering the difficulties of being a foreigner in Turkey, etc. Moreover, maybe sometimes you are thinking this to yourself ‘’If I was studying in a foreign country, how would I feel?’’. Accordingly, we asked some of these questions for you of the Zaman graduates who are studying in Turkey. Lyheang Tep, a graduate student from Zaman International School in 2008.1.How many years you have been in Turkey?Lyheang: I have been in Turkey for about 2 years.2.What do you think about Turkey and the Turkish people?Lyheang: The Turkish people are friendly and kind. ***My name is Chansolyka Tep, I'm a 2008 graduate student from ZAMAN International School. Right now I'm studying at FATIH University in Turkey as a second year student in Environmental Engineering. There are 3 Cambodian students in my university. One is now doing his masters and another one came at the same time as me.I've been here a year and a half now. I have plenty of time to study but dormitory is also a social center which means, no matter how much time you have still it's not enough to study if you are a very social person. That's been my experience.Going back to the beginning of my stay in Turkey, it was a bit hard with most of the things, such as transportation,

food, weather, and especially the language. I was a bit sad that I didn't learn enough Turkish while in high school but it wasn't that big a bother since I had friends around me. As the time passed by I have slowly adapted with the conditions quite well. I can eat almost every kind of Turkish food and desert as well as some kinds of drinks like Ayran (a mixture of yogurt with water and salt and then shaken). Sometimes I think of it as a yogurt shake. The weather here is quite interesting, very changeable from time to time. I could not get used to it at first and I also got sick frequently. And now I have no problems with the weather any more. It was just a matter of time before I got accustomed to it and I can adapt easily.I really enjoy the life here and my education at my university. I have met nice people here. My

professors are kind to me as are my Turkish friends. They are helpful and very understanding of my situation and I'm glad to be with them. Everyone I met at my university, professors, Turkish friends, foreigner friends, their smiles are warm enough to make me feel safe.I'm not just studying while I'm here, I'm also traveling to other cities in Turkey. These trips have revealed many interesting facts about Turkey and its people to me. Turkish Culture and its history is the most interesting subject. People are nice, friendly, helpful, and they are great hosts. I stayed with Turkish families during my visits, and I found it very comfortable to be with them and felt their warmth and kindness, I even sometimes felt like I was at home.Talking about their culture, there are a lot of things to say, as every culture in the world has their own uniqueness, so does Turkish culture. Cambodian culture is completely different from Turkish. Cuisine, for example is one difference. At first I had difficulty eating, because Khmer food is totally different from here, so I have spent a bit of time getting used to the new taste. To me, when talking about Turkish culture the first thing that comes to mind is FOOD. Why food? Because as you travel to different parts of Turkey you will find different tastes and looks and each city is famous for this. kite flying gives the partici-pants the different bang. More excitement will grow if they fly the kites themselves. To give it a shot; the Zaman family flew t h e i r k i te s o n o n e w i n d y Saturday afternoon. Though the sun’s heat was blazing, it did not stop the curious kids, teachers, and even parents to fly their colorful kites. They all boarded three big buses to the venue, Olympic Stadium. They left school at around 2:30 and arrived at the stadium for few minutes. The buses headed towards the small field near t h e s t a d i u m . J u s t a s t h e students stepped off from their buses, they all ran inside the area and started to set up their kites. Some kids just couldn’t wait to maneuver their kites up to the skies. Everybody was in glee. They were all having a good time.

A f ter a n h o u r o r mo re , students were told to go to a higher surface, an area beside the stadium; where there was better wind and a great space for flying kites, too. Some students had a race of whose kite would fly the highest. Some were just enjoying the event. Evidently, the whole Zaman family enjoyed the kite flying. They all wanted to join the next one.

The event lasted for hours. Some students didn’t want to g o h o m e a n y m o r e . T h e y wanted to stay longer. But the time was over. So, they got no choice but to leave. Before going back to school at around 4:30, a group pictorial was set. All participants posed for a remembrance of that historical day.

months of November and December are good seasons of winds, most Khmer people say; "most suited to fly kites that will soar up in the sky".

According to history and origin, no one knows exactly who flew the first kites or where they were first created, but historians believed that k i t e s d e v e l o p e d a l m o s t simultaneously and independ-e n t l y i n b o t h C h i n a a n d Malaysia approximately 3000 years ago. Thousands of years may have passed, but the spirit of kite flying is still flaming in the hearts of all people all over the world.

Kites come in all sizes, colors, and designs. Some can be homemade or can be bought somewhere or from a kite vendor. But have you ever wondered how kites fly? Well, let me share the idea to you: The lifting force of all kites is produced by deflecting the air d ow nwa rd , t h e re s u l t i n g c h a n g e i n m o m e n t u m producing an upward force. The reason for this is that the air traveling over the top of the curved surface of the kite is go ing faster than the a i r passing underneath. Fast-m o v i n g a i r c r e a t e s l e s s pressure; this means there is more pressure underneath the kite, and this helps to force it upwards. Think of the kite as a sail boat, that catches the air. The air tries to push the kite along like the sail boat. But the string the flyer holds keeps the kite tethered. Since the kite cannot go with the wind flow and the kite is tilted so that the air is deflected downward, the kite has nowhere to go but up. Both the lift-to-drag ratio and the stability of the kite are functions of the length of c a b l e . T h e m o r e c a b l e re l e a s e d , t h e m o re d ra g created.

Some were eating foods and playing other sports. I wish I could have another chance to join kite festival again. It was really fun and exciting!

For the whole year of 2009 I was happy with myself because I had improved in so many ways. My mum even gave me a big surprise on my birthday. I w i l l s t u d y h a rd e r, fo l l ow

We divided ourselves in different groups to decorate. Some pumped air onto the balloon, others tied and the rest tidied the class and arranged the chairs and tables. Then we invited our Turkish teacher, Mrs. Guler Erken , and had a mini show in the class. After the singing and dancing, we exchanged presents. Opening gifts is always delightful and thrilling. Then we had our great f u n w i t h ga m e s l i ke b a l l b lowing race and bal loon hopping. Using up energies was replenished after we had eaten delicious foods. For almost 3 yrs of studying here in Zaman, I’d say this has been one of my best years and I hope to have more great memories for this new year.

January 16, 2010. Twelve kids joined. They were in school uniforms for identity and security reasons. Hyperactive kids like them can be some-t i m e s h a r d t o m a n a g e especially when they start to charge up their energy. Some can’t just stay in one place. They knew a lot of interesting things but the most important one they visited as one of the famous places was The Royal Palace. The Palace is a very beautiful place. And if you haven’t been there yet, we recommend you to visit it ASAP.

they quickly changed to their swimming suites and jumped into the water. They had lots of f u n , a n d w e r e a b l e t o experience playing with other kids.

Soon it was time for lunch. Everybody was all hungry and thirsty. Time to enjoy the buffet lunch that had been prepared to us by our host. The meal was a delightful one, there were lots of foods to choose from – meat, pasta, vegetables, fruit, and other sweat treats. A sumptuous meal that satisfied the palate of everyone in our group.

Next it was on to do art a c t i v i t i e s a n d p l ay s o m e games. The CCC staff prepared a lot of enjoyable games for our kids such as jumping game, hide and seek, stop dance, and leak kon seing – a traditional Khmer game. There were two students who won the games namely Noraksing Neath, and Sokunvisoth Sam, they were so happy because they got a lot of candy from the game that they

t all started like any other day. We, the Kindergarten ITeachers were discussing

about school activities that had to be done in upcoming days. So, we thought of something different, an activity that would be remembered and cherished both by our students and their parents. Then we came up with an idea, we planned to have a family day out. After the exchange of ideas for the details of the said activity, we all decided and chose to go to Cambodian Country Club (CCC), for we believed that this would be something that could bond us all together – parents, students and teachers as family.

A family day out, what a special time that has come to be! It does not have to be anything elaborate, or even a costly day. The most important thing is the time that we’ve spent together, time that our kindergarten students will never forget as they grow.

It was the 19th of December last year, time to finally go and perform the much-awaited plan. The anticipation of our arrival at the CCC loomed within all of our bellies. We w e re g e tt i n g c l o s e r. T h e excitement grew. All the kids a n d e v e n t h e i r f a m i l i e s couldn’t wait to get off the bus. Upon reaching our destination, we were all in awe because of t h e b e a u t i f u l s i g h t a n d wonderful ambience that we were in, the excitement in kids could be seen in their cute little e y e s . Ev e r y b o d y w a l ke d around, enjoying the scenario, taking pictures and went in search of the different places in CCC. What a beautiful sight it is!

11 students who joined in this competition, namely Be Chan Thida 8E, Akchhara chharom 9F, Noun Chan Monika , Hem Davy, and Soumey Lim all from 11E, Sithearoth Bun and Chanmanuth Khay from 9E, Leakhana Khy 9F, Devy 10F, Maradony Keo 10A, and Chhay Hour Torn 8A. They all sang the same song, one called "OMUZ OMUZA." During the competition everyone tried to do their best with this song. They did so well with their nice, cool voices that it gave the judges a difficult time choosing the winner. The program also featured one song ca l l ed "KOYUMUN YAGMURLARI" which was sung by Akchhara Chharom 9F , in her really soft and sweet voice that

A few weeks ago there was a Turkish singing competition which 36 students joined. Only the top 11 from the first competition would go on to the next round, called the "final competition". During the first round of this competition there were some visitors from Australia who joined the program and they felt really happy and surprised that Cambodian children can sing in Turkish and wanted to show their abilities by competing. After this competition finished the top 11 were announced by the next day and that gave the winners a chance to prepare themselves for the final. On the 9th of January, 2010 there was a great time to be had for the boy's side. It was called Summer Festival. In addition to that our teachers had also arranged a Turkish singing competition. This started at 1 pm and finished at 3:30 pm. The 1st place winner of this competition got USD$ 100 and 2nd place got USD$75 with the 3rd place w inne r ge t t i ng USD$50 . Moreover, they earned a chance to join in the Turkish Olimpiyat.The competition started at 1:00. All the students and their friends were in the cinema and ready for the competition on time. The judges for this competition were Mr. Mustafa Ercan, Mr. Naci Yildiz, Mr. Nuri Demirel, Mr. Halil Basoglu, Mrs.Grace Karaca and Mrs. Aysegul Yildiz. And the presenter for this program was Monyneath Lim. In all, there were

made everyone really enjoy listening to the song.Two and a half hours sounds so long but when we were in the competition it was over too fast and then it was time for all the judges to add up the points and have a short discussion together. And then the time came to gather up all the students who had entered the competition on the stage and pass out some gifts to them. Then they had a photo taken together… This part was over quickly; everybody was standing on the stage with cool hands and white faces waiting for the results. And then it was time to announce who the 1st 2nd and 3rd place winners were. Let‘s start from the 3rd place, which

was won by Akchhara 9F, and the 2nd place, which was awarded to Be Chan Thida from 8F. The first place winner was Devy 10F. Most of the students cheered happily for their friends with happy faces. Afterwards, some of them felt regret and were sad for their friend's loss. But our teacher gave us all a piece of advice, saying that all of the students who joined the competition are number 1 because everybody had their own fantastic style. Turkish Singing Competition 2010

‘mansion’. The hall/living room was like nothing I have ever seen before. It opened wide and the décor was simple yet elegant. It led to the kitchen which was again huge by the standard of any kitchens I have seen in Phnom Penh. It had a spacious dining area and the kitchen had a Western touch/design to it and was adequately equipped with the necessary household appliances. Next to it was a huge bathroom, again not of the types that I have seen thus far in Phnom Penh. There were three floors to this ‘mansion’ and at each floor I was greeted by the surprise of finding rooms, rooms and more rooms and each and every room I went into was huge. The rooms were neat and nice. To my delight, I discovered double deck beds in the students’ bed room which immediately brought back fond memories of the times I had in a double deck bed when I was a little girl myself! I especially loved the upper deck. Till today I still haven’t quite figured out why double deck beds hold such a fascination to kids. Is it because it’s closer to the ceil ing, imagining oneself to be closer to

It was an invitation I could not refuse! This is simply because BBQ’s and housewarmings are a delight! So on Sunday, 25th October 2009, my daughter and I made our way to the address we were given. After fumbling through some other lanes (despite being here for a good many years, I still find Phnom Penh’s street and house markings bewildering!), we landed ourselves right in front of the house. But the minute the gates were opened to welcome us and right till today, I have to say, the experience I had at the housewarming stayed on!What struck me most was the size, not only of the house but that of the warmth and hospitality shown by the hosts. Needless to say the food was awesome. The good company coupled with enjoyable conversations and fresh BBQ chicken which were finger licking good and salads that were simply lovely made the afternoon very enjoyable. So once the food was out of the way, I got a chance to tour the house/dormitory. I think to call it a mansion would be more apt because it was just huge! I loved the spaciousness of the

I don’t know but somehow sleep seems sweeter in the upper deck! ;) To my surprise I later learnt that the beds were specially brought in from Turkey and so were the large sofas in the living room. That’s really grand I thought, to have a taste of Turkey in Phnom Penh! Still yet I discovered a huge study area with appropriate furnishings and educational resources for the students. The discovery didn’t end there just yet, I was led to the 3rd floor which had a nice lounge area specially set aside as a TV room. I learnt fur ther that the segregation of these areas was carefully planned and thought out, bearing in mind the need to cater to the fun and educational needs of the students who come to stay in the dormitory. After the tour, we were served with tea and more food – a la Turkish style. A mat which was slightly more than 2 meters was laid out on the floor and sweet delights came pouring in to fill it up. There was tea, a variety of biscuits, cakes, chocolate mousse, fruits and more. With all the glorious food

laid out as such, I did what came naturally to me i.e. I ate and ate and ate. I didn’t give thought to the extra weight I was going to gain but rather relished the thought of coming close to having a taste and experience of Turkey and made sure I didn’t miss out on any! On the whole I must say the d o r m i t o r y w a s s i m p l y breathtaking. The size, the space, the faci l i t ies and opportunities that were thought of and made available to students of Zaman were simply amazing and praiseworthy. The space outside the ‘mansion’ was large too. There was a nice garden and a large area for recreational play or for hosting parties and get-togethers.As I stepped out of the dormitory/mansion, I thought of the Princesses who live in it and the other Princesses who were invited and had a chance to stay and I thought how lucky and special it must truly feel. It is a castle especially for Princesses to run and romp around and have tons of fun and enjoy creative activities and yet at the same time to explore, discover and grow.

This comfortable space with its wall decorations motivates the learners and keeps them interested in their training. The club has learned a lot about various songs and learned about the rhyming patterns in the songs. The teacher is very active in class and interested in teaching them. So learners can receive a lot of knowledge from her. We can tell this by the comments of some students from 11F. This is what they say about their club:

The electronic organ club is an interesting club that stands out among the other clubs in our school. Every student wants to join this club so much. However, it’s limited as to the number of students who can join. This year the club contains students from 11F and 10F and is taught by Miss Sibel, who graduated from a music school in her native country. If we take a look inside the music room the club uses we’ll see very nice decorations. The electronic organs are well organized in a U shape. And the trainer’s organ is in the middle. It’s interesting to look at the souvenirs that are displayed on the walls. When we arrive in front of the club's door we’ll see a note which asks people to please take off their

Sokharath: I feel very happy that I can attend the electronic organ club. It’s a very good club because our teacher is so kind and talented. My expectation is to just learn more about this gorgeous musical instrument from her. Electronic organ club is joyful and fun.

Dalaly: I totally love this club. Not just because it is enjoyable to study in but also because of our teacher Miss Sibel. She is a very talented young woman and her teaching is extremely good. Nothing is better than coming to this club and learning with Miss Sibel.

Aik ido's founder, Mor ihei Ueshiba, was born in Japan on December 14, 1883. As a boy, he often saw local thugs beat up his father for political reasons. He set out to make himself strong so that he could take revenge. He devoted himself to hard physical conditioning and eventually to the practice of martial arts, receiving certificates of mastery in several styles of jujitsu, fencing, and spear fighting. In spite of his impressive physical and mar t ia l capab i l i t i es , however, he felt very dissatisfied. By combining his martial training with his religious and political ideologies, he created the modern martial art of aikido. Ueshiba decided on the name "AIKIDO" in 1942 (before that he c a l l e d h i s m a r t i a l a r t "aikibudo"and "aikinomichi"). However, we must also realize that many aikido techniques are the result of Master Ueshiba's own innovation.So our school opened an Aikido Club for students who would like to learn Aikido. of us had said goodbye to her. Then all of us went upstairs to get ready for bed. Later on, our teacher came and covered everybody with blankets and said, “Good night… sweet dreams…!” to us before she went out. So we started to play and talk, except one of our friends, Thyda, was already sleeping. One hour later, we heard hungry sounds coming from Vatrara’s s t o m a c h , s o s h e w e n t downstairs and asked our teacher for some noodles. After eating we went to bed and slept. One day had already passed. On the second day we had similar activities to the first but

It was amazing that we’d got a chance to go to the dormitory. We slept there for two nights on T u e s d a y t h e 1 2 t h a n d Wednesday the 13th. In the morning, on Tuesday, everybody felt very happy and excited. After we finished school, all of us were holding our luggage as we got onto the bus with our homeroom teachers (Mrs. Goksel and Ms. Serife). When we arrived at the dormitory we all got off, still with our luggage, and went inside. Then we went to our room, put down our things and took a shower. After all of us had taken a shower our teacher called us to go to the kitchen to help our teacher to cook dinner. My friend (Lida) washed vegetables, ( C h e a t a ) c h o p p e d t h e vegetables and my other friends set the table. After we finished helping our teacher, we had dinner with our homeroom teacher. All the food was delicious and some of my friends ate a lot. The time passed quickly and soon it was study hour so we went upstairs to help our teacher prepare fruit, cups of tea and some sweets. After we finished helping with the preparations, we started to enjoy the tea, fruit and sweets. When we’d finished, we helped our teacher to clean up the cups and plates. After that, we went upstairs and started to study. When we had finished our study our homeroom teacher (Mrs. Góksel) went home after all

On Thursday morning we packed our luggage to go home. After that, we came downstairs to help our teachers with the cooking and than we ate it all together. When we finished, we went to the living room and

waited for our teachers. Our teachers gave each of us a big hug and a small present. Then, we went back to our school. We had a real ly happy and en joyable t ime wi th our homeroom teachers at the dormitory. 8-F First Time At Dormitory

went down to help our teachers prepare the tea, cakes and fruit. It was so much fun helping, sharing and eating with our teachers and friends. Tea time was over, then it was time for another hour of studying. After we finished studying, I took a shower and we all went to bed. First night at dormitory was a little bit hard but also kind of fun too. I remember that my monitor, Cheata, couldn’t get to sleep until 2 a.m. that night. She was worried about things and the strange surroundings and didn’t know what to do, so she just got up and walked around. Then she woke me up. She told me she couldn’t sleep and I told her to just close her eyes and count numbers starting from zero and continue on and on. Then she got back into her bed and suddenly said that, “Hmmm… I think I need to call a "motor dop" to take me back to my home sweet home now…” But soon after both of us fell asleep. Bright and early Tuesday morning, after my friends all opened their eyes, I told them about what Cheata had said and we all couldn’t stop ourselves laughing. Next, my friend Visoth Thyda suddenly woke up and said, “ Ooh, I feel so cold, I want to brush my teeth now…”. None of us said a word, but we all

3 days and 4 nights at the dormitory were over in the blink of an eye. Even though it seemed like such a short time it was long enough for us to make tons of new memories of the sweet and unforgettable kind. On the night before we left for our stay at the d o r m i t o r y , w e w e r e enthusiastically packing our bags and getting ourselves ready for it. The next morning, we each brought our own stuff from our homes and placed them in the teachers’ department room. After 9 hours had passed, the 7 of us who were going to the dormitory (me, Visoth Thyda, Cheata, Lymei, Tepy, Elen and Srey Leaph ) went to get our bags and we took them down and waited for the school bus that would take us to the dormitory.It was my very first time at the dormitory. When we arrived at the dorm, we couldn’t wait to see how nice and comfortable our room was. Then Ms. Serife showed us to our room. It was so nice and large, a room big enough for 7 of us because each room has 8 beds. We hurried to claim a bed for our own and then all of us took a shower except me because it was time for dinner already. I was still in my school uniform when we all went down and had dinner together with the teachers there. Wow, the Turkish food was out of this world, e s p e c i a l l y t h e carro t s … O n c e w e finished, the time had arrived that the 10E girls love, which i s s t u d y t i m e . Studying took one and a half of hours . Af ter that, it was time for tea. All of us

stared at her for a few seconds before breaking into laughter because the thing that my friend had just said didn’t seem to connect with each other. So, my friends, from now remember that a new way to keep yourself from being cold is to brush your teeth, following Visoth’s daily routine... After having a shower, we had breakfast and then we all went back to school together. During school class time on the 2nd day of dormitory we all felt sleepy but we studied happily nonetheless and waited for our class time to pass as quickly as possible. Tuesday night came along and there was same schedule as Monday night. We followed it, and the cakes that night were so delicious that we all really wanted to eat some more. But they were all finished so each of us had a cup of tea instead and w e n t u p t o s t u d y. T h e hardworking girls that we are suddenly just wanted to eat and play, so my teacher came and told us to start hitting the books. We couldn’t do anything else then but study but we wished that study time would pass quickly. At last it was 10pm, time for bed. W e f e l t s o h a p p y a n d immediately ran to our beds, but Lymei and Tepy called to us to come down and play some games. The first is called, “Truth or Dare”, and after playing it we went to bed. Wednesday’s class over, it was also the last day for us at the dormitory too. For that night, 3 more of our friends, Virya, Sopor and Thida came to sleepover with the 7 of us already there. That was the night for us to relax and enjoy the entertainment. After a delicious dinner, we played and helped teachers to prepare fruit for tea time. Tea time came and went, and then we all watched movies together till 9 p.m. Then we

epy, so we got permission from our homeroom teachers, Mrs. Goksel and Ms. Serife, to go to bed. We went up to our room then. However, once there we didn’t feel sleepy anymore. We just talked and played for hours. Lymei, Virya, Tepy and Thida were sitting on one bed; Elen and Leaph were on another. Cheata, Sopor, Visoth and I were lying on a third mattress which was placed on the floor. We just kept on talking and talking. Time went by, and we suddenly noticed it was 1 a.m. already but none of us felt sleepy yet. Then Tepy came up with an idea for a game, in which she would act like someone we told her to and our other friends had to guess who it was she was acting like. That was such a really fun game we kept on playing it till 2 a.m., until we all couldn’t keep our eyes open anymore. So we just went to bed and slept like dead people till 8 a.m. That was the most pleasant night ever. In the morning we all quickly had a shower and then got ourselves and our stuff ready. Then we went down for breakfast. On that final day we decided to go to Pencil. 2 other friends had come and joined us, Dany and Dalin. So we called a Tuk Tuk to bring us along with all our bags to our school first. Then we went shopping, and after a fantastic time at Pencil we all went back to school and then home.Once we got to our homes, we all began to really miss each other and wished that we could go back and do it again. We would like to say thanks to our homeroom teachers and all the teachers there, and we would also love to have cheerful activities like this one again and again. It was really a precious moment full of real fun, sweet and unforgettable memories that will always remain deeply in our hearts and souls.

Sushi Night

We made sushi, hot dogs and lemonade together that night. It was a very great night for us and we were so happy to cook the food with our friends and teachers also. In addition, Monyneath and Monika also practiced the "sing a song" for tomorrows Summer Festival, and some students from other classes also came to practice a

On Friday evening of the 24th of December we were at the dormitory after school to help teachers to prepare some food for Summer Fest ival the following day. Our teacher wanted us to help make sushi for the Summer Festival. That night we went to the dormitory with our homeroom teacher, Mrs . Yasemin, Ms. Merve and our friends Vimol, Monika, Sopha, Vatey Thengy, Monyneath and Rachana. When we arrived there we relaxed for awhile, and then we had dinner. After we had the delicious dinner, which was made by the teachers, we started to unpack all the ingredients that had been bought by Monyneath, sharing the work together. Sopha, Vatey and Vimol washed the vegetables. Monika and Rachana cut the vegetables into small pieces after washing. Monyneath cooked the rice after being shown how by Mrs. Yasemin, having to cook it in two batches because the pot wasn't big enough. After preparing the ingredients we started to make the sushi. We worked from 6 o’clock till 7 o’clock, but we still couldn't finish it all. Then we had a n i d e a . W e w a n t e d Monyneath’s housekeeper to come help us make the sushi, so Monyneath asked permission from our homeroom teacher to ask her house keeper to come to the dormitory to help us make the sushi. When the housekeeper arrived she started to make it immediately, and guess what? It was so amazing that her house keeper could finish the Sushi in a really short time and the sushi looked good and tasted yummy too. Moreover, Mrs. Yasemin also called two students for help in making the lemonade, so Monika and Sopha were called. At first, she taught us how to make it, after that we started to do it by ourselves. We made the lemonade and all of us tasted it. It was good. As for the sushi part, they were almost done. We s a w t h a t M o n y n e a t h ’ s housekeepers are very skillful, two of them made it very fast and they looked very nice. Also, Mrs. Yasemin took out the hot dogs from the fridge and cooked them.

After a big meal, everyone was really full, so we rested for a while. Then we continued with our day by cleaning the tables and chairs. After everything was cleaned, we had ice-cream and cake for dessert. That chocolate ice-cream was super fantastic!!

On Saturday the 12th of December both 8E and 7E students were invited to the dormitory for a barbecue party by our homeroom teacher, Mrs. Grace L. Karaca and her assistant, Miss Shirin. Most of us arrived there by around 9 o’clock.

First of all, the 8E students started to roll the spring rolls while 7E prepared the tables and barbecued chicken with Mrs. Grace. Three of the 8E students went to shop for snacks and plastic plates at Lucky Shopping Center accompanied by Miss Shirin. While the chickens were being roasted some of the students played traditional Khmer games. The two classes really enjoyed the games and the arrangement of the house.

Before all the food was cooked, Miss Shirin brought some students to see all the rooms in the house. The rooms were so big and beautiful that some of our classmates couldn’t take their eyes off it. Not long after, all the food was cooked so we set the table for everyone. At 12 o’clock we had our lunch (spaghetti, barbecued chicken, and cheese spring rolls with an abundant supply of fizzy drinks) and we started to dig in with our forks and spoons. While we were eating we took some pictures together.

12F had our trip to SOUN SOBEN on the 10th of December. It’s interesting to note that it was our first trip and our first activity since we started grade 12. This is because everybody is very busy with their extra lessons on the weekends. Everybody was excited to hear that our class was going on the trip because we could escape from our frustrating "extra lessons" weekends. The trip involved first visiting the new Zaman University which is under construction. After everybody had arrived at the Zaman High School starting point, we departed at 10 a.m. and traveled to our 1st goal, Zaman University. It is located in TOUL KOK near the Zaman primary school. When we arrived we were amazed at the gorgeous, stylish, tall building that stood in front of us. Then we went inside to do some sightseeing. Some areas are still under construction so we had to be careful about our safety. After we finished our sightseeing at Zaman University we continued directly on to our main goal, Soun Soben. It took us approximately 20 minutes to reach there. After we arrived, everybody helped to carry all the stuff to the proper area. After that we searched for a good place to sit. Then we made BBQ for our lunch. We were chatting and taking lot of photos while we

really didn’t want to leave because we might never get together on another trip like that again for a long time. This is our last year at Zaman high school, thus we just want to make a lot of pleasant memories to help us remember our friends and our teachers .
