Isipathana defeated St.Peters College by 12 – 7. The Wining Team was awarded the Trophy, a Cash Prize Rs.50-,000/-, Medals and Certificates. St.Peter's College who were Runners up was presented with a Cash Prize of Rs.25,000/-. The Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament was awarded to M.Rizwan of Isipathana College with a gift Voucher for Rs.10,000/-. Although 12 schools were to take part only eleven participated as St.Thomas's withdrew. Isipathana, St.Peter's, St.Joseph's , Dharmarajah, Vidyartha, Prince of Wales, CWW Kannangara, Carey, St.Anne's Kurunegala, Royal Panadura and Zahira participated. The Principal Sponsor of the Tournament was the Harcourts Group of Companies and Diamond Food Products were the Co Sponsors. The Chief Guest was Mr Ahamed Rheyas – Chairman Harcourts Group of Companies. Isipathana College won the Cup Championship for ndthe 2 successive year at the Zahira Invitation

thRugby Sevens held on 25 July 2009 at the CR &FC Grounds organized by the Zahira College, Colombo Group of 60s. Isipathana defeated St.Peters College by 12 – 7. The Wining Team was awarded the Trophy, a Cash Prize Rs.50-,000/-, Medals and Certificates. St.Peter's College who were Runners up was presented with a Cash Prize of Rs.25,000/-. The Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament was awarded to M.Rizwan of Isipathana College with a gift Voucher for Rs.10,000/-. Scout Shamrin of the College Scout Group has been

selected to represent a 12 member contingent of Sri Lanka

at the SAF Camp to be held in Haryana, India in November

this year.

Mohamed Shamrin also received his President's Scout

Education/Welfare Committee – Work out New Plan

The Education & Welfare Committee of the Group of Sixties led by its Chairman Mr Ibrahim Hamid has worked out a new plan which is now being implemented for the OL & AL Students.

The earlier project of Revision Classes has now been done away with due to poor response from students. It was decided to prepare Questions/Answers modules from past question papers after discussion with College authorities. The tutorial staff of the college undertook to prepare and supervise the preparation of these modules.

The estimated budget for the digital printing of these modiles for over 250 students is Rs.200,000/- which is being sponsored by the group of Sixties.

A Special Assembly was held at the Ghaffoor Hall on th

7 July 2009 to inaugurate this project. The Principal Mr T.K.Azoor, Mr Ibrahim Hamid Chairman of the Education/Welfare Committee of the Group of Sixties, Mr A.Anverdeen Director of Studies and Mr Ananda Ponnamperuma Vice Principal addressed the students on the importance and purpose of the project. Thereafter modules were distributed to the students.

A.M.A. Azeez Scholarship Fund – An AppealThe Education & Welfare Committee of the Group of Sixties which is implementing this project for deserving OL & AL Students appeals for donors to give more scholarships. A Scholarship for 2 years will cost Rs.36,000/-. The student will be paid Rs.1,500/- per month. This is an on going project of the Group of Sixties.

1950 Iqbal Society inaugurated under the patronage of Dr.T.B.JayahHon.Ghulam Muhammad Minister of Finance of Pakistan addressed the students.

1951 Wrestling introduced. Mr L.M.M.Abdur Rahman an old boy volunteered to train the boys. M.S.M.Rauf won the Bantam Championship of Ceylon.Won the Herman Loose Cup

1952 The members of the Rifle Club annexed 7 out of 9 trophies at the Annual Open Meet conducted by the Small Bore Rifle Association of Ceylon

The Annual Ifthar Programme of G60s was held amidst a large gathering of members and old boys of all groups at the Marine Grand Banquet Hall on Friday

th28 August 2009. Moulavi Dr Rayees Mufthi addressed the gathering.

Dr. Haris Musafer visits College

Dr Haris Musafer who is a medical practitioner in the United States of America paid a visit to his alma mater Zahira College recently. He and his wife were received by the Chairman, Board of Governors Mr Fouzul Hameed and the Principal Mr T.K.Azoor. He declared open the newly renovated science laboratory and also laid the foundation stone for the new primary class room building project for which he has promised assistance. Later he addressed the special assembly and drew fond memories of his school days and gave much needed advice to the students on the importance of educating themselves. He was later accorded a Dinner at the Ghaffoor Hall by the Board of Governors amidst a gathering of old boys representing the various groups. He was able to meet especially the Old Boys of the 60 era who were his school or class mates and it was truly a memorable occasion for him.

Group of Sixties – Fund Raising Launch - A Success.

The Finance & Fund Raising Committee of the Group of Sixties had a successful Fund Raising Launch at the

Global Towers in order to raise a substantial amount for investment to enable the Group to continue to assist the College in the projects undertaken so far. “Seeking Partnership for Crowning Moments” was the theme and Mr Munshif Hussain as Master of Ceremonies made an effective presentation on the projects undertaken by the Group and conducted the Programme successfully. Mr Riza Abdeen gave the welcome address followed by Hon.Justice Saleem Marsoof 's address. The Joint Chairmen of the Fund Raising Committee are M/s.A.C.M.Ifthie and Jabir Sally. Mr A.C.M.Ifthie proposed the Vote of thanks.

Members Day & AGM 0f G60s

Elaborate arrangements are being made by the Members Day Committee lead by Mr Rumy Hassen to give all members and their families a good outing at

ththe Aqua Pearl Villa Resort on Sunday 25 October 2009. All members have been notified of the details and an organized programme of fun and games awaits them with a dip in the pool.

The Annual General Meeting too will be held on the same day at 9.30 a.m. in the morning where the new office bearers and the Committee will be elected for the year 2009/2010.

SWIMMING POOL FOR ZAHIRA - A DREAM COME TRUE

The Old Boys Association has ventured out for the

construction of a swimming pool and a Fund raising

Launch was held at the Hilton in August amidst a large

gathering of Old Boys and Well Wishers. The function

was very colourful and well organized and proved to be

a success. Mr Kishu Gomez CEO of Caltex was the

Chief Guest . Pledges were made by Donors to finance

the Pool construction.

Committee is working hard along with his team to make

it a reality and the construction would begin soon and

the Committee is hopeful of collecting the balance funds

to meet the total cost and complete the pool.
