Zafar U. Ahmed is currently serving the Department of Marketing at the School
of Business, Lebanese American University, Lebanon as a Full Professor of Marketing
and International Business (on a Tenure Track Line).
Zafar earned his BBA in International Business from the University of the State
of New York’s Regents College at Albany, New York (USA); an MBA in International
Business from Texas A&M International University, Laredo Texas (USA), and a Ph.D.
with specialization in Services Marketing from the Utah State University at Logan, Utah
(USA) in 1988. He has attended faculty and executive development programs in
marketing and international business at Cornell, Yale, Duke, Northwestern,
Thunderbird, South Carolina, Southern Methodist, and Indiana universities of USA.
Zafar has been both a student and a teacher of marketing and international
business for more than 25 years. His experience has taken him from the snowcapped
towers of academic institutions across the United States to the desert cities of the
Arabian Peninsula and to the remote reaches of Africa and the Asia-Pacific islands in
pursuit of global research, developing global networks and learning better ways of
doing business globally. For instance, he has been a Visiting Professor to the American
University of Beirut (Lebanon), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore),
University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa), University of Malaya (Malaysia),
University of Science (Malaysia) and University of Putra Malaysia. He has also served
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a Founding Associate Dean: College of Business
Administration at the Prince Sultan University in Riyadh, Founding Dean: College of
Business Administration at the Prince Fahad Bin Sultan University in Tabuk and as a
Founding Professor of Marketing at the University of Dammam.
Zafar’s 25-year full-time American academic experience has been accumulated
at the Texas A&M University at Commerce (Texas), Fort Hays State University
(Kansas), Sacred Heart University (Connecticut), Minot State University (North Dakota),
and the State University of New York at Fredonia (New York).
Zafar has participated in several prominent entrepreneurial ventures with a
recent focus helping global entrepreneurs start export firms across Malaysia, Singapore,
Sri Lanka, Lebanon, India and Saudi Arabia. His own industry experience in the field of
global entrepreneurship includes a 10-year distinguished career ranging from a
management trainee to a global entrepreneur and finally to President/CEO of two family
owned global firms: (Bangalore International Co. Pvt. Ltd., (India) and Sokoto
International Trading Co. Pvt. Ltd. (Nigeria)).
Zafar has been actively involved in the generation and diffusion of new
knowledge using numerous global platforms culminating in the publication of more than
150 scholarly papers in world-class peer reviewed (refereed) journals.
Many of his scholarly papers have been published in Tier 1 journals such as
Harvard Business Review, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Business Ethics,
Journal of Global Marketing, International Marketing Review, Thunderbird International
Business Review, Journal of Services Marketing, Journal of Tourism Management,

BIOPIC
Zafar is creating a major college textbook for teaching “Global Business
Ethics” at the MBA level. It is focusing on crimes committed by entrepreneurs, MNCs,
governments, organizations, foundations, agencies and individuals in the name of
conducting global business. It would be published by a major global publisher in the
foreseeable future. Zafar is also developing two case books with a focus on the “Middle
East” and “Malaysia” and both are under consideration for publication by reputed
global publishers.
Zafar is currently serving as the Founding President and CEO: US based
Academy for Global Business Advancement (AGBA), Founding Editor-in-Chief: UK based
Journal for Global Business Advancement, and Founding Editor-in-Chief: UK based
Journal for International Business and Entrepreneurship Development. He is the
author/co-author of 5 case books, has co-edited 15 refereed conference proceedings of
international conferences, has chaired 15 global conferences around the world, serves
on the editorial boards of 10 international journals, and has guest edited special issues
of 10 international journals.
Zafar has held administrative responsibilities such as Dean: College of Business
Administration, Associate Dean: College of Business Administration, Chair: Department
of Marketing, Director: Institute of International Business, and Director: MBA program
across the world. Zafar has also provided leadership as a "Distinguished Endowed
Chair" in the field of global education by pursuing variety of initiatives such as
negotiating international partnerships with foreign institutions, faculty and student
exchange programs across the world and escorting entrepreneurs across the globe for
networking and exploring business opportunities.
Zafar’s major grant-related activities have included being three-time recipient of
Title VI grants from the US Department of Education, and his appointment by the U.S.
Department of Defense to act as a Federal Reviewer to evaluate applications of
educational institutions seeking federal funding to establish international business
programs. He has been recipient of hundreds of grants from variety of governmental,
multinational and private sector agencies from India to Malaysia, and from Singapore to
the Kingdom Saudi Arabia.
Zafar has been a global consultant for a wide variety of diverse organizations
such as the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the United Nations Development
Program, the Japan International Development Agency, the British Commonwealth
Secretariat, University of Michigan’s William Davidson Institute, many governmental
organizations across Africa and Asia, numerous MNCs operating across Africa and
Southeast Asia and Rwandan, Lebanese, Singaporean, Malaysian and Saudi
governments.
Zafar is a “Global Citizen” having a “Global Mindset”. He is multilingual and
multi-cultured. For example, he is fluent in three global languages (English, Urdu and
Hindi). His education encompasses two systems: Asian (Bachelor, Master and
Doctorate) and American (Bachelor, Master and Doctorate) and he has visited, lived or
worked in more than 100 countries encompassing all liveable continents across the
world.
