Highways Updates Village Road Bridge Village Road Bridge – Reconstruction of the bridge will be carried out in the Autumn this year. The priority system over the bridge will become a permanent feature when the repairs are carried out. This will help slow traffic and hopefully encourage traffic rat running through the village onto bypass routes.
Grange Lane No verge parking restrictions on Grange lane are live and will be enforced immediately. The
Bedford Borough Council parking team will make impromptu visits to the area on a regular basis.
Members of the public can report offenders directly to parking services on 01234 718057
during office hours or on 01234 718359 outside office hours.
Grange Lane Resurfacing Works - The resurfacing of Grange Lane has been postponed until October 2018 half-term. This is due to pressures in other areas of Bedford Borough.

What an amazing summer it has been, not only did we have the hottest weather, we had some amazing
events too!
Thank you to all of those who gave up a night of football to attend Music in the Marquee. It was a lovely
evening, and we were thoroughly spoilt by the quality of the musicians and singers who entertained us. And
what a wonderful Bromham Show. A huge thank you to all the organisers who continue to create such a
great event.
July and August saw the first 2 film nights at the Mill. Run in collaboration with Paul Hutchinson and Bedford
Film Festival, we hope that this will become a regular occurrence. There is still time to buy tickets for the
September Film Night when we are showing “Hacksaw Ridge“. We are hopeful that we will have two further
film events this year to support our Spooky Walk on, and our Christmas Event on December, so watch noticeboards and the website for
further information.
On Saturday 8 September sees the 3rd Millfest. Tickets are still available, so if you have enjoyed the previous festivals please join us and
spread the word to all your friends. It is so important to support these community events, and help raise funds to maintain and improve
the Mill.
On 21 October it is the ever popular annual Apple Day.
We still have not had any news from Bedford Borough Council, regarding the lease of Bromham Mill and Grounds, but we have created a
Bromham Mill Trust in preparation. And our Events Team are busy looking at introducing some new activities to further promote
Bromham Mill and the Café.

You Can Report Highways Issues!!
If you see a fault or problem in Bromham please report it as follows:
‘ReportIt’ Tool
The Council has launched a new online tool allowing residents to report highways issues. The ‘ReportIt’ tool provides the opportunity to log issues on an interactive map along with a description and a photo of the problem.
A number of issues can be logged on the system including, but not limited to potholes, flooding and traffic signals. The issue will then be followed up by Council officers who will provide an update of action taken on the map.
You can access the service at https://highwaysreport-ing.bedford.gov.uk

dog mess, please report it to Bedford
Borough Council on 01234 267422
or visit www.bedford.gov.uk/
envirocrime.

Bromham Mill Café Open Daily - Pop in for coffee & cake!
Writing this on 6 August it is 30’c and there is no prospect of rain. Put some water out for the birds; they are not pillaging what is left of your garden for food, but rather they need the moisture from the foliage.
It was probably timely that earlier this year we contributed a modest part of out Ward Fund to more rain water collection capacity for the Allotments. Very often these are the little schemes that make a significant impact. We have also cleared much of the vegetation on Stagsden Road between Dovehouse Close and Bromham Swan. The Parish Council will enable ongoing maintenance.
We have set aside funds to put a 20mph speed limit on Bromham Bridge. This is intended as a gentle reminder that the Bridge is an important and delicate historical monument. It is a squeeze for buses, delivery vans, Chelsea Tractors, and especially pedestrians and cyclists. Our idea is on hold at present, as there is a parallel notion under discussion to close Bromham Bridge to vehicles. Well it is the silly season isn’t it?
Still on roads, it is happy opportunism, which we endorse, that the recent accident at the bottom of Village Road, at what we think is called ‘Park Bridge’, has led to the installation of a traffic priority. This will eventually become permanent, with the appropriate signage. The scheme goes a way to moderating speeds down Village Road, without the imposition of too much intrusive nasty urban street furniture. In addition, we are going to support the Parish Council with some further traffic surveys through the village.
Modest progress, but unseen, we have had installed a new telephone extension at Bromham Primary School. A new carpark lighting scheme is also under consideration at the Grange Lane site (is it a ‘campus’ now?) to help community use of the facilities. We are planning to support that initiative with our Ward Funds.
And finally, we purchased a Stihl brush cutter for the Conservation Group. We are sure the now shrivelled bracken will regrow and need hacking back in the future!
Have you any ideas how else we can use our Ward Funds this year to enhance Bromham? We are already looking at costings for Improvements to Chestnut Avenue play area. Other ideas are most welcome.
Kind regards, Roger and Jon.

Employees from Santander's Grafton Gate Head Office in Milton Keynes recently spent the day refurbishing the Elisabeth Curtis Centre in Bromham, Bedfordshire, which offers people with a disability the opportunity to ride horses. The activity, which was part of the bank's Discovery Days scheme, saw 16 volunteers help refurbish the entrance hall, office, waiting area and stables at the centre which is used by over 100 riders and supported by a team of volunteers. The team painted the walls and carried out tasks such as constructing new shelving and moving furniture. Santander also provided a selection of furniture for the centre. The Elisabeth Curtis Centre has offered riding to disabled people across Bedfordshire for over 30 years. The centre provides 30 and 45-minute riding sessions in term-time to its riders. It receives no formal funding and is supported by a team of volunteers, grooms, kind donations and a number of fundraising activities throughout the year. Victoria Liston, Chairman of Elisabeth Curtis Centre – Riding for the Disabled, said: "I would like to extend a massive thank you for the tremendous work the volunteers from Santander did at the centre. It was a great atmosphere on the day and the team worked tirelessly to complete it. The new facilities are fantastic and we look forward to welcoming our riders back in September. I am sure the ponies will appreciate their clean, fresh stables.” Richard Owen, Director of Transformation & Support at Santander who organised volunteers, said: "It was great to see what a difference our staff was able to make by the end of day. We had a big task ahead of us but the whole team got stuck in and it was great to work alongside centre volunteers and learn about the great work they do. I hope the riders truly enjoy the refreshed and modernised facilities for years to come.” Santander's Discovery Days scheme encourages staff to take a day out of the office to volunteer with a local cause. In 2017, over 7,000 volunteers took part in 699 projects across the country, including refurbishing local schools, hospitals and helping with community projects.

The Almonds Pre-School has had another successful year and has sent lots of happy, confident and 'school ready' children onto their chosen Primary School.
We had an enjoyable sports morning at the end of term which culminated in a superb 'bring & share' lunch for parents, grandparents, childminders etc.
We appreciate all the lovely comments from parents of school leavers and we thank them for taking the time to reflect on their child’s time with us.
We are now able to start filling places of children age 2 years plus for our Ladybird class. We require them to attend a minimum of two sessions when they start and we recommend that they start with us soon as possible in order for them to have the best experience. Children settle better when they are 2 years/2years 6 months and also enables staff to track progress more effectively.
If you are looking for a place for your young child, why not give us a call and arrange an appointment when w will be happy to show you around and answer any questions.

Bromham Allotments Association
What a contrast in weather, from deluge to drought, yet another challenge on our allotment plots. The harvest of berry fruit was very rewarding though and the apples and plums are looking good too. We are always looking for ways to improve our site and a few bench's would be good for those times when plot-holders can take a break and chat to others. So if anyone has a garden bench they maybe looking to replace and would care to donate to us, that would be appreciated. By the time you are reading this we would have had our Open Day, welcoming all and maybe encouraging a few more to try an allotment plot. Our renewal year will soon be starting and they maybe one or two plots available. Contacts:- Jan Oliver 01234 825246, Judy Hammond 07745569044.

Supporting Bromham Mill The Parish Council would like to thank everyone who is visiting the Mill to enjoy the park, visit the cafe and support events at the Mill. We would also like to thank the organisations and individuals that are working to make the Mill an enjoyable place to visit. The cafe run by the Parish Council is thriving, open seven days a week thanks to the staff and volunteers. Work done so far by volunteers includes: • Demonstrations of the restored Mill machinery have been given. • Shelving and fittings have been made for the Mill cafe. • Areas of flowers and shrubs have been created and watered through the hot weather. • Walls cleared of ivy that was destroying them. • Work is continuing on the restoration of a 100 year old hand cart • Work has been started on preparing and painting wall areas and barn walls after discussions with the
borough surveyor. • Film nights have been organised and gallery exhibitions set up of local art as well all the preparations for
Millfest. Planning is already starting for Spooky Times at the Mill and Christmas at the Mill If you would like to help with any of these projects or have ideas of your own please contact Julie at Bromham Parish Council on 01234 828851 email:[email protected] or look on the Parish Website under Volunteering at Bromham Mill for dates of volunteering and come along!!
