RCIA-Rite of Chrisn Inion for Adults In the fall of each year, St. Mary Parish offers the RCIA program (the Rite of Chrisan Iniaon for Adults). This program is offered to provide an opportunity for interested non-Catholics to explore the Catholic faith and for Catholics, who for various reasons have not received all of the Sacraments of Iniaon (Eucharist & Confirmaon). It is also for those who are no longer praccing their faith, to reconnect with their faith. Somemes people are looking for something to give meaning, or fill a void in their lives; they may not even realize it but they would welcome an invitaon. As Catholics we should offer the invitaon for RCIA to any persons who might benefit from it. RCIA is the beginning of a journey to come to know Jesus Christ on a personal level. This is a process of ever deepening growth and commitment; a process that connues throughout our lives. RCIA will try to help prepare you to make that commitment to Christ in and through the Church through formal instrucon and direcon. RCIA is a faith journey. Each of us has a unique path for our faith development, so there is no obligaon on the part of anyone to join the church. We will be here to assist you in your reflecon on whether God is calling you at this me to follow Him in and through the community of St. Mary’s Parish. This year’s program is scheduled to begin on September 20th. Please call the parish office (989)587-4201 with any quesons. “RCIA was a very eye opening experience. Coming from no previous religion, RCIA opened my eyes to the truth that is Jesus, and taught me so much. The whole Easter Vigil experience was so powerful to me; I felt like Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the whole community was with me, I could not stop smiling and it was one of the most joyful experiences of my life. Deacon Chuck, Barb and my sponsor Luke Thelen helped me to know Jesus and helped me to become stronger in my faith and I could not be more grateful for them. I highly encourage anyone who is thinking about coming into the church to really pray and give RCIA some deep consideraon, because like me, Jesus will change your life.” Chris Utz “What a great experience I had during the RCIA program. I had such a strong feeling to come back to the church for about a year, so I contacted Fr. Eric and made the decision to come back. I then found out that I was never confirmed, so I made the decision to start RCIA so I could get confirmed. God has guided me through some tough mes, especially when I lost my husband Richard Feneis. It’s comforng to know that God is always with me in good or bad mes. The Easter Vigil was so excing for me to know God is going to be with me always. When people I didn’t know came up to me and congratulated me, I felt the whole community was behind me and supporng me. I couldn’t have had a more caring and special sponsor in Sandy Smith and teachers Deacon Chuck and Barb Spitzley. I thank everyone for their help through this very, very special me in my life. Joan Feneis “When I first started off in RCIA I remember Barb and my sponsor Vicki Noeker, telling me that they didn't want this to feel like another class with worksheets and tests, since I was in high school, but it was my favorite "class" of senior year. RCIA was relatable to the class with the cool teacher and all your friends were in it. I learned a lot in one session and it always made my heart feel happy when I le. Majority of the me would fly by because I was learning about something I wanted to learn about. RCIA brought me closer to God in so many ways and once I was aware of the changes in my life there wasn’t even a thought of going back to not appreciang what God has provided for me and not realizing how blessed I am. Along with all the learning there are also a lot of events I was able to experience through the process like, geng my feet washed, being a part of the Easter Vigil, and going to the Cathedral in Lansing. RCIA was definitely the best choice I have made for myself and I encourage anyone who has even thought about trying it, to absolutely do it!” Bailey Fandel

Chaplet of Join us on Monday mornings a?er Mass to pray the “The Chaplet of Divine

Mercy”. The Chaplet uses the beads of the Rosary to guide a meditaon on

God’s mercy. The message of Divine Mercy is simply that God loves us and that

God’s mercy is greater than our sins. We can call upon God with trust, receive

His mercy, and let it flow through us to others.

“…them I will bring to my

holy mountain and make

joyful in my house of

prayer…”

In the Bible, important

events happen on

mountain tops. A couple’s

wedding could be

considered a “mountain

top” experience. God brings couples to the

altar in the church, they exchange vows,

and the whole wedding is extremely joyful,

full of amazing memories and many loved

ones. However, a marriage can’t consist of

all “mountain tops”, all of the me. Yes,

God wants to bring us to His holy mountain,

but eventually, we have to come down and

live in the world. For marriages, this means

that the wedding day is fun, but the real

living happens off the mountain. We will

need the “mountain top” experiences to

help us through the hard stuff. And praise

God for those beauful highs!

Mark your calendars for the St. Mary School Open House scheduled for August 21st, from 4 to 6:30 PM. All St. Mary School families and their children are encouraged to aDend. Meet your classroom teachers, pick up your books, pay for hot lunch, and enjoy a snack.

St. Francis Retreat Center Since his elecon to the papacy,

Pope Francis has inspired

millions by urging us to embrace

mercy, ulmately revealed in

the face of Christ. Narrated by

Jim Caviezel, The Face of

Mercy explores the history and

relevance of Divine Mercy in our

turbulent mes. Watch its story unfold, from an unpretenous Polish nun

who experienced powerful visions of a merciful God, to her countryman

Saint John Paul II who propelled the message of Divine Mercy onto the

world stage, and the Year of Mercy bestowed upon the Church by Pope

Francis.

Meet the woman who found freedom in forgiveness a?er seeing her

family wiped out by genocide; the former-NFL linebacker who walked

away from football to share Christ's mercy with the homeless; the

baseball player who traded MLB ambions for the monastery; the priest

with a drug-dealing past, and the young widow who chose mercy towards

her husband's killer. These moving tesmonies will remind us all that

Divine Mercy is not just a devoon of the past or some abstract

theology—it is alive, it is present, and it will transform the world.
