Car and truck enthusiasts enjoyed the first cold front of the season at the second annual student-run, El Coyote Car Show, held on October 12, 2019. Over 70 registered cars were displayed, ranging from sports cars to custom and classic cars. The car show, hosted by the La Joya High School Automotive Club under the supervision of Mr. J. Garza, provides students the opportunity to enhance their learning outside the classroom. In addition, the car show brings together other Career and Technical Education (CTE) program areas such as welding and construction and is supported with mutiple resources from a wide-range of departments within the district. This event is a great opportunity to connect academic skills, interpersonal skills, and career goals for every student, which inherently is at the center of the CTE program. A sea of red filled the tables at the Coyote Cafe at La Joya High School on October 24, 2019. La Joya High School alumni from class of 2010, 2000, 1980, 1970, 1960, 1950, and 1940 gathered for the annual Reunion Tea Party hosted by the LJHS Student Council. This year's reunion had a record breaking attendance of over 100 alumni. "It shows our schools commitment, but also our alumni's commitment to coming back, showing up, and proudly wearing red," said Mr. D. Perez, Student Council Sponsor. Alumni enjoyed performances from the La Joya High School Marching Band, the Cheerleading Squad, Jewelettes, and Grupo Folklorico Tabasco. In addition, alumni were treated to a table scape covered with appetizers and freshly baked goods created by students in Mrs. S. Montalvo's Culinary Arts classes.
