What is volumetric concrete?Volumetric Concrete is concrete that is mixed by volume of material, rather than weight. It is typically mixed on-site in volumetric concrete mixers, which are self-contained portable batch plants. The volumetric concrete trucks contain all the mandatory concrete ingredient materials such as sand, aggregate, cement, additives and water.

Mobile volumetric mixers provide the flexibility to produce concrete on-site in any quantity without any waste. They also produce concrete at any specified slump or water-cement ratio. Mixes and grades can be switched between jobs, or even during a job if required, by simply adjusting the mix design on the control panel.

Our state-of-the-art volumetric concrete trucks can supply concrete in volumes from as little as a wheel barrow load up to impressive total of 50m3 per hour when stationary on site, depending on the mix design.

Although we have these advanced volumetric concrete trucks, our pricing per cubic meter are still market related and extremely competitive. You will get invoiced as accurately as to 0.1 of a cubic meter and you will receive a print out of the exact quantity that is poured on site.

How does volumetric concrete mixers work?A volumetric concrete mixer produces concrete by proportioning the materials out over time by volume. All of the materials are then dispensed into a mixing screw where they are completely mixed together. The material is being added into the mixing screw in small quantities in order to ensure thoroughly mixed concrete to guarantee a complete and uniform mix by the time it is discharged.

When the customer needs a little more or a little less than what they originally thought it would be, it is not a problem because production stops when the job is done. You only pay for the amount of concrete poured.

With ready-mix drum trucks concrete is batched at the batching plant so the customer has to make an accurate estimate of the amount of concrete that will be needed.

With a Volumetric concrete mixer you can produce as little as 0.1 cubic meter of concrete and then pack up and go to another job. Thus only getting what you need – no wastage.

With traditional drum trucks, the only small amount that can be mixed by the plant and poured by a Ready mix drum truck is 0.5 cubic meters.

With a Volumetric Concrete Mixer the concrete is made fresh constantly on site as needed, resulting in precise mixtures every time, giving the best continuous outcome. The mix design can be changed at any time in order to fulfil the needs of the clients.

The freshness of concrete can be affected by external factors such as traffic and the site not being ready, as it is already been exposed to water at the batching plant. If additional water needs to be added it will result in a weaker quality of concrete.

With a volumetric concrete mixer aggregates is not exposed, resulting in no time factor. It can deliver fresh concrete no matter where the site is or any other external factors. There is also no travel between plant and site resulting in no time wastage. No delays on any jobs.

Concrete in a drum truck is exposed to water at the plant and the time to travel to site needs to be taken into thought when concrete is mixed at the batching plant.

The introduction of CTS Cement’s, Rapid set cement and concrete products alongside Cement Tech’s Volumetric Concrete Mixers to the South African market. For architects, contractors, engineers, DOT personnel, and other professionals who work on residential, commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects.

This special cement distinguishes itself from Portland cement by a high-speed bonding, fast strength development, and a shrinkage reduction. CTS cement has recently emerged as an innovative alternative to Portland cement for tunnelling and underground construction projects. It has been used for construction on above-ground projects for years and exhibits properties uniquely suited for the harsh environment of under-ground construction, and many other applications where a quick reuse is required.

• Fast Bond Time. (20 min, even in low temperature areas)

The initial set of the CTS cement begins after approximately twenty minutes and its final set is then arrived after ten more minutes. With the use of retarders, the processing time can be considerably extended. Even in low temperature environments CTS cement maintains it reactivity unlike other cement types.

• Rapid Strength Development (24 hours vs. 28 days for Portland)

When CTS cement is applied to concrete or mortars it vastly increases its strengths and its strength development. Compared to Portland cement, mortars and concrete with CTS will achieve the same strength within 24 hours where Portland takes 28 days.

• Shrinkage Compensation (Water needed for Hydration is absorbed in the structure of cement = no water surplus)

• The tension that occurs during hydration is build up in a much shorter timespan compared to traditional cements.

• CTS cements require more water compared to Portland cement – 0, 35 versus 0, 25 for Portland. However, the water is chemically completely bound causing no water surplus. It is the water surplus that occurs with other cement types and is the cause for shrinkage, cracking, and warping.

• During the hardening phase a chemical and stable expansion occurs that prevents further shrinkage over time.

CTS cement is a proven growing technology for the underground construction industry. The fast set time, high strength, low porosity, high chemical stability and sulphate resistance make it a material uniquely suited for underground repairs, shotcrete and other applications as needed. It can be used to replace Portland cement concrete when durability and quick turn-around time is required.

COSTThe price of CTS cement per ton is higher compared to traditional cements. However, the advantages mentioned such as rapid set, high early strength, and shrinkage reduction makes it a very versatile addition or replacement of Portland.

These characteristics are very suitable in formulations for tile adhesives, repair mortars, water plug, self-levellers, and many more. Furthermore, CTS can be applied in the production of precast concrete where rapid demoulding increases productivity and thus profitability. Likewise, it is suitable for acid- treatment, polishing, or blasting even after six hours.

CTS Rapid Set Cement has a much smaller “Carbon Footprint” than Portland cement. This means that in its manufacturing process, with normal cement plant production equipment, it generates far less Carbon Dioxide (CO2) than Portland cement emits during its production process. Carbon Dioxide is a “Greenhouse Gas” and is a major contributor to global warming and climate changes. Thus, CTS Rapid Set Cement is a “Green” hydraulic construction material that is far superior in most respects to Portland cement.

Hardened CTS Rapid Set Concrete is much more durable than Portland cement concrete, and has a particularly greater resistance to sulphate or other types of chemical attack. Due to its very rapid strength producing ettringite formation, lower porosity, and subsequent internal self-desiccation, CTS Rapid Set Concrete is extremely impervious to carbonation, freeze thaw susceptibility, and acid rain leaching. Thus, it has a proven record of field performance that exceeds the normal useful life span of Portland cement concrete.
