I. OVERVIEWOFTHESACRAMENTOFRECONCILIATION

II. GUIDEFORAGOODCONFESSION(basedonthewww.catholic.org)
1. Abasicrequirement foragoodconfession is tohave the intentionof returning toGod like the prodigal son (Luke 15:1131) and acknowledging our sins with truesorrowbeforehisrepresentative, thepriest.
2. REMEMBER, if you need helpespecially if you have been away for some timesimply ask thepriest andhewillhelp youby "walking" you through the steps tomakeagoodconfession.
3. BEFORECONFESSION,letusbetrulysorryforoursins.TheessentialactofPenance,on thepartof thepenitent, is contrition,a clearanddecisive rejectionof the sincommitted, togetherwitharesolutionnot tocommit itagain, outof the loveonehas for God. The resolution to avoid committing these sins in the future(amendment)isasuresignthatoursorrowisgenuineandauthentic.Thisdoesnotmeanthatapromisenevertofallagain intosin isnecessary.Aresolutiontotrytoavoid the near occasions of sin suffices for true repentance. God's grace incooperationwiththe intentiontocorrectour lifewillgiveusthestrengthtoresistandovercometemptationinthefuture.
4. EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE, recall your sins. Calmly ask yourself what havedone with full knowledge and full consent against Gods commandments (TenCommandments).Whenwasmy last good confession? (Refer to theGuide for aGoodConfessionBookletSeeAppendix)
5. AFTERCONFESSION,givethankstoGodforforgivingyouagain. Ifyourecallsomeserioussinyouforgottotell,restassuredthatithasbeenforgivenwiththeothers,butbesuretoconfessitinyournextConfession.
