ROOM 11 INTERSCHOOL DEBATING Following on from Gozone Debating sessions held earlier in the year, Yokine PS was invited to take part in an Interschool Debating Final. We entered 2 teams consisting of the following students: Ally Davis, Krish Dubey and Alex Cottle, and the other team: Hayley Barnes, Noah Furtado and Helena Brown. The topics to debate were: That Celebrities should comment on politics and That Australia is a Junk Food Country. Our students were up against very experienced debaters from Loreto Primary School, PLC, and St Hildas. The students researched and prepared in their own time and with the help of Mrs Gibson and Mrs Man-ning. They received a trophy and did the Yokine Primary School and them-selves very proud.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB 2017 I will not be taking orders with cash in 2017. If you would like to order book club, please use the “Loop” at scholastic.com.au

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

As a parent, you are required by the School Education Act 1999 to ensure your child attends school every day that the school is open for instruction. If your child is absent you must notify the school of the reason for the student’s absence. It is important that your child attends school on a regular basis to ensure they are able to keep up with their learning and social emotional development. For students who are not attending on a regular basis or have a high percentage of absences, un-der the School Education Act 1999, I am obligated to imple-ment processes to ensure all children attend school regularly.

In 2017 this will be one of our major focus areas.

Pre Kindy Playgroup We have had a Pre-Kindy group operating in the Hall every Tuesday for the last two years. This has been a great success and has provided the opportunity for parents and children to build some great relationships and also help them to be part of YPS. This year Lee Lai and Sumaiya Rubab have been over-seeing the operations of the group. As their children are mov-ing into Kinday next year there is no one to oversee the group in 2017. Fro the group to continue we need new parents to take this on. If you are interested can you please see me for more information. A big thank you to Lee and Sumaiya for all their efforts with the group.

ARCADIA EXCURSION ROOM 10

On Thursday the 24th November Room 10 travelled by bus to Elizabeth Quay to see the Arcadia.

Arcadia is a spider that is made from recycled military equipment. It blows fire out of its back

and it also shoots lasers out of its eyes at night. When we arrived there were tents with loads of activities such as making spiders out of scarp materials, making spider goo, wearing virtual reality goggles and more. We relaxed on bean bags that had been in the sun so they were hot but very com-fortable and we listened to a talk on LNG – liquid natural gas. LNG is a very cold gas. It weakens metal and the metal is easily broken by a hammer when is has been immersed in LNG. It looks hot but it is very cold. We walked over a bridge on the way back to the bus.

Thank you to the parents who joined us on this amazing experience (Hunter’s

Mum-Jana, Brendan’s Mum – Linda, Megan’s Mum – Jenny and Thomas’ Dad –

Russ)

ROOM 2 ASSEMBLY On Friday the 18th of November 2016, the super excited students of Room 2 put on a stunning show at the school assembly. The children brainstormed some ideas for the assembly and decided to do a News Reporting show, based on the work they have been doing in their literacy programme. We en-deavoured to showcase many aspects of our learning programme, like HOTS, Keys to success etc. Snapshots of local, national and sports news punctuated the News Reading which kept the au-dience entertained. The hosts of the show made sure that the proceedings ran smoothly and the each student played their part with true showman spirit. However, an interjection by the FLASHMOB, presented by the fabulous students of Room 10, was a Showstopper and took the students, staff and parents of Yokine by surprise. It was a true showstopper!!! We finished off with more entertainment with the slapstick viral sensation…Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen.

Mrs. Paul is so proud of her students for practicising hard at rehearsals and working as a team

to put on a great show for the school. We’d like to shout out a huge thanks to Mrs Fitzpatrick who helped with the music

and the Mrs. Natasha Hutchings, a parent who volunteered to help with the props and behind the scene matters.

CAN YOU HELP? This Christmas I am going to have the company of my 5 year old grandson for 3 weeks, and my daughter in law’s 3 month baby nephew for 2 weeks. I have a lot of the gear I need to make the visit fun and safe, but I was wondering if anyone could lend me a 16” two wheeler for 3 weeks and a car seat suitable for a 3 month old. Please let me know in Room 3 if you can help out. I promise to take good care of things and return them as soon as the families return to East. Wendy Goodwin
