    Position Title: Youth Security Officer

    Position Summary

    The Youth Security Officer is responsible for ensuring that the Gary Comer Youth Center is a safe and welcoming

    environment for all of its members, staff and guests. The position reports to the Youth & Building Coordinator.

    Having opened its doors in June 2006, the state-of-the-art Gary Comer Youth Center (GCYC) offerspositive

    extracurricular alternatives in a welcoming and safe environment. The mission is to provide the support for allmembers to graduate from high school, prepared to pursue college and careers. Located on Chicagos South Side, the

    Gary Comer Youth Center draws its primary membership from the youth of Gary Comer College Prep High School,

    the South Shore Drill Team, Paul Revere School and youth residing in the 3rd District (Chicago Police Department)community. For more information: www.gcychome.org .

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    Security coverage of the Center and its grounds on an ongoing basis daily via physical building rounds andcamera surveillance.

    Responsible for intervening and managing conflict amongst youth, adults and/or visitors.

    Implement all GCYC safety related building operations policies and procedures.

    Responsible for implementing assigned security responsibility for special events. Events can have attendanceranging from 30-600 persons (mainly youth).

    Responsible for all safety reporting including incident reports and conduct reports.

    Assists in youth member & guest/reception area including youth reception, youth departure, proper

    dissemination of Center information, guest & volunteer reception, etc.

    Special projects as assigned by the Executive Director or Senior Program Director.

    Experience / Education: Minimum high school diploma required; some college preferred. Perc card (blue card)

    required along with 2-3 years work experience in youth development or security fields.

    Qualifications include:

    Security function experience with a focus on youth and families.

    Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as ability to present information effectivelyin one-on-one and small group situations.

    Must demonstrate cultural competency, dedication to working with youth, families and community

    members in our care.

    Competency in MS office applications. Competency in surveillance camera software a plus.

    Physical Requirements:The physical activities listed below are representative of those that will be required on a regular basis tosuccessfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    Ability to perform duties while walking, standing, stooping and/or lifting.

    Dexterity sufficient to perform computer functions.

    Ability to lift materials weighing up to 30 lbs.

    Typical physical demands require full body movement, physical strength and stamina sufficient to

    chase, apprehend, and detain person(s) when required. Carrying standard equipment and conducting security patrols.

    Ability to withstand various weather conditions for outside security patrols.

    Remuneration: Dependent upon qualifications and experience.
