Visual ArtsVisual Arts programs are held in the college’s Visual Arts Building—160,000 square feet of art-making and design opportunities.

Creative Writing WorkshopCreate and share original work in a workshop-style format focusing on voice, character, tone, plot, and point of view. Produce polished pieces for college essays and/or award submissions.

PRECOLLEGE Grades 9-12 $1080* / $1200Session 2 July 11–22

Young WritersLearn essential elements of the writer’s craft—descriptive detail, poetic language, punctuation as craft, and voice—that make personal narrative and nonfiction writing come alive. Students practice close reading and engage in revising their work under the guidance of accomplished instructors. Young Writers is designed to foster creativity and imagination.

FilmmakingFilmmaking InstituteAdvance your knowledge of visual storytelling. Write, direct, and act in original movies. Produce work that you can use in the college application process. 30th Annual Visual Arts InstituteAttend master workshops in drawing & painting, sculpture, and an elective(s) of your choice. Learn how to develop your portfolio and document your work. Display your work in the exhibition! PRECOLLEGE Grades 10-12 $2070* / $2300Four week program July 11–August 5

New! Improv WorkshopExplore your creative abilities as a performer! Improve your listening skills, spontaneity, and “yes and” attitude by working without a script to create scenes with partners and in groups. Develop more self-confidence and the ability to collaborate creatively in this fun and challenging class. Valuable for those with or without prior improv or theatre training.

Songwriting WorkshopDevelop your ability to write, record, perform, and promote your own songs! Receive instruction on piano and/or guitar, lyric writing, music theory and arranging. Learn to use Pro-Tools and Garage Band. Receive a DVD of the concert!

New! Auditioning WorkshopImprove your audition skills and confidence level. Learn basic tools, techniques, and strategies that you can put into practice and prepare you for any audition or interview. Young Actors and PerformersExplore the building blocks that performers use through daily classes in improvisation, movement and diction warm ups, and relaxation techniques. Instructors (professionals in the field) teach you acting and musical theatre skills through in-depth instruction in acting, singing, and dancing in preparation for your final showcase!

Musical Theatre Boot CampImprove your musical theatre technique and gain confidence and a stronger understanding of the audition process for musical theatre and the many paths to performance! Identify the multitude of character “types” in musical theatre, which will help you choose, prepare, and practice a variety of audition materials. Receive daily instruction in acting, voice, and dance.

Acting on Camera Boot CampThrough daily on-camera work, learn to perform for the camera and gain an awareness of how the camera affects your performance. Discover how TV and film auditions differ from stage auditions and how to prepare for them. Investigate the many pathways to performance in film/TV work. The skills you study in Acting on Camera will support your work in any theatrical medium!

Python Coding and Minecraft EngineersCombine coding and Minecraft and engineer and design a variety of mini-games, roller coasters, and attractions. Explore the programming language favored by Google, NASA, YouTube, and the CIA. Learn how to code with Python to create engaging apps and games. Students must own a Java version of Minecraft to take this class. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Virtual Reality and 3D ModelingIn this cutting-edge class, learn the foundations of VR design by creating your own virtual worlds, 3D experiences, and learning basic programming concepts. 3D Game Design with Unity and 2D AnimationTake your game design skills to another level! With Unity design software, learn level editing, 3D modeling, gameplay creation, scripts and variables. Next, create and animate your own 2D character sprites, objects, and backgrounds. Finish with a fully animated 2D character and a 3D game level built in Unity. YouTube® FX and JavaScript JamLearn programming and special effects tools so powerful they seem like magic! Learn the dynamics of camera angles, editing, graphic layering, and sound effects. Then focus on core programming concepts with JavaScript in a series of digital challenges like animated memes, interactive 3D experiences and game creation. Digital ArtsWe partner with Black Rocket to offer cutting-edge creative technology courses. Student-created games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family.

College Courses for Rising or Graduating Seniors:Take a test drive of college and get a leg-up in school!

High school students who have completed their junior year may engage in proactive education by enrolling in summer credit-bearing courses (or noncredit seats in them) to prepare for AP coursework or to earn credit before entering college.

Enjoy New York (in-state) or Fairfield County low tuition rates or even more reduced rates for noncredit seats in the same credit-bearing courses: $520 for a noncredit seat in a 3-credit course, or $625 for a noncredit seat in a 4-credit course (plus applicable fees and a $25 nonrefundable noncredit registration fee).
