STUDENT REVIEW: AMBER

Recently RTE aired an Irish drama called “Amber”. It was a 4 part drama set in Dub-lin about a 14 year old girl who goes missing. Here is what some of

our students thought:

The programme is set in

Dublin. It stars Lauren

Canny as Amber. Her

father is played by David

Murray and her mother is

played by Eva Birthistle.

The storyline is about a

14 year old girl named

Amber who went missing

after sneaking off into

Dublin by herself. The

programme had a good

bases for a good storyline

however a lot of the time

certain parts in each epi-

sode felt contrived and

frankly ridiculous. There

were some parts in the

show where you could

connect with the parents

on an emotional level, but

the show didn’t seem to

linger on these moments

for too long. The main

part of the show was not

the titular Amber but was

her parents. We did not

feel like Amber had

enough screen time for

the viewer to develop a

meaningful relationship

with her. The acting in

this show was not great

as some of the characters

lacked emotional range

for example the father felt

very wooden and stiff his

facial expressions did not

change a lot and the

mother felt like she was

ripped straight from Fair

City. The Gardaí were

shown as being incompe-

tent and did not seem to

follow any real proce-

dures. It succeeded in

keeping my interest until

the end. The ending was

disappointing and felt like

a let down for all the build

up it had. Sadly it stayed

true to many cases like

this in real life.
