Changing a community one day

Partners in Faith and Health with Minority Communities Initiative
KASA - Promotores De Salud Program
Rescue 180 is a faith based 501c3 that is interested in educating the community about the dangers and negative consequences of substance abuse.
We have 3.5 % of Hispanic population (on paper)…but know there are many who are in need of health / faith education, especially in the area of substance abuse.
Originally we began work with our Hispanic community at the Boys and Girls Clubs..learning from their Hispanic youth the needs, problems, etc. of their parents, and others in the Hispanic community.
We are Title VI trained and prepared to communicate , but wanted our project to be much more ‘down to earth and hands on.’
So we worked with Hamblen County Coalition, since they already had a Hispanic liaison and coalition in place.
We are excited about our Pilot project of beginning our own ‘Hispanic outreach/ Coalition…and appreciate Hamblen County Coalition and KASA for their commitment and guidance on this project..
Activities
The Promotores were tasked with going out into the community both providing and receiving health and substance abuse information with families. Being ministers, they spoke in Churches and also participated and community events.
AchievementsThe Promotores and members of the Hispanic community participated in a Rescue 180 monthly meeting, where they were all given an opportunity to speak, and Certificates were given out, and an article was written in our county’s newspaper, the Standard Banner.
The raw numbers!
Special thanks to Alexis Andino. Without his oversight and efforts this project would not have been possible. Also, thank you Paul
Hyde and Health Department personnel for supporting us in this project!
