Dental implants are considered to be the best solution available for restoring damaged or missing natural teeth by dental professionals. They have proven to be far more durable and long-lasting, have much better functionality than dentures and other dental restorations and with the right treatment and care, can last a lifetime.

A dental implant is a titanium post which is surgically inserted into the jawbone beneath the gum-line. The Implant post allows for an abutment and crown (or bridge) to be placed to replace missing teeth. An implant tooth consists of several parts.

I M P L A N TThe implant is normally made from titanium and is placed in the upper

or lower jawbone.

A B U T M E N TThe abutment can be made from

titanium or zirconia and is attached to the implant with a screw.

This abutment is the part which connects the implant to the crown.

C R O W NThe crown is normally made of porcelain fused to a metal alloy

(PFM). The crown is then screwed or cemented onto the abutment.

WHAT ARE YOUR DENTAL IMPLANT OPTIONS?

Dental implants can be used to replace any number of missing teeth, from a single missing tooth to full mouth restoration. Our team of experts will tailor your treatment plan options to suit your requirements.

We offer an advanced (Legacy) or premium (Noble Biocare) implant. Each dental implant is crafted with high-quality materials. However, the premium implant comes with the added comfort of a lifetime product guarantee. The success and longevity of a dental implant is highly dependant on the skill of the specialist performing your implant placement surgery. Your results are also highly dependent on your daily oral hygiene and having regular dental check-ups. Our team of experts pride themselves on providing you with world-class care and the best surgeons to help ensure you achieve the best results.

If you are missing just one natural tooth, one implant is normally all that would be required to replace it. However, if you are missing several natural teeth, you may not necessarily need one implant per tooth; the exact number of implants will depend on the quality and volume of bone at each potential implant site.

This will be discussed in your initial consultation and detailed in your custom treatment plan.

Depending on your case, we can connect your implants to a temporary bridge on the day of surgery. This means you can leave the dental office with a full set of teeth and return to leading a normal life. Once you have healed, we will exchange your temporary bridge with the final bridge created by a dental laboratory.

ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS RIGHT FOR YOU?Finding out whether you are suitable for dental implants, which implant to opt for or how best to place an implant is a highly specialised process. That’s why our team of specialists will go through your options in detail, providing transparent and trustworthy advice on your treatment options.

At your initial consultation, the specialist will assess whether you are a good candidate for implant treatment. This may require dental x-rays or CT scans which will be used to model optimal positioning of dental implants plus the quality and volume of bone that is available.

Even if you don’t have optimal dental health, implants can still be an option for you with the right treatment. This may include bone grafts or sinus lifts, extractions or other dental treatments

to provide you with the best dental health and results.

Establishing good dental health is a key stage of your treatment plan. You will be made aware of any problems which are urgent and what treatment is required to stabilise your gum or tooth related problems, prior to implant placement.

If you are aware of loose teeth, excessive bleeding or have gum problems such as periodontal (gum) disease, please inform your implant specialist who will be able discuss your options and further treatment that maybe required as part of your personalised treatment plan.

TREATMENTS REQUIRED MIGHT INCLUDE:B O N E G R A F T If you are experiencing bone loss, a dental bone graft may be included within your treatment plan. Bone for a graft is usually taken from the back of your jaw and then re-inserted into the area of bone loss. The repositioned bone will mesh seamlessly into the surrounding tissue over a period of time. Once healed, the implant site will be as strong as natural bone and you’ll be ready for implants.

S I N U S L I F T A sinus lift is normally performed when there is not enough bone height in the upper jaw or the sinuses are too close to the jaw for dental implants to be placed. Sinus lift surgery adds bone between your upper jaw and the maxillary sinuses, which are on either side of your nose, to create this extra height. A sinus lift is usually performed by a very experienced specialist with advanced training in this field.

E X T R AC T I O N S As part of your dental implant treatment plan, extraction of unhealthy, loose or interfering teeth may be required prior to implant placement.

P E R I O D O N TA L T R E ATM E N T You may also require periodontal treatment to help improve periodontal (gum) disease. This non-surgical step usually involves a special cleaning technique called “scaling and root planing” to remove plaque and tartar deposits on the tooth and root surfaces. This procedure helps gum tissue to heal and periodontal pockets to shrink.

THE IMPLANT PLACEMENT PROCESS

020 7099 5555 | [email protected] | WWW.MYHEALTHCARECLINIC.COM

After the initial consultation and any pre-implant dental work has been completed, the first step in the process is the surgical placement of dental implants themselves. This procedure is usually done during one visit and can take 1-2 hours per implant. This can take 3-6 months to heal fully. During this time the dental implant will fuse to your jaw bone.

Once you are healed, you will be ready for the next stage of the implant process. During this healing period, you will be provided with a temporary denture or crown which you will be able to wear. You will be able to maintain normal activities as you usually do, but you will need to follow a modified, soft diet for at least two weeks.

The next stage begins around 3-6 months later. During this phase, the top of the implant will be uncovered from under the gums and an abutment will be attached to it. If you are wearing a temporary denture or crown, your dentist will make any necessary modifications to them to allow you to continue wearing them after the abutment is placed.

Around 2 weeks after the abutment is placed, we will take moulds for your permanent crowns. Our dental laboratory will produced colour matched made to measure crowns which our surgeons will fit. This phase is usually completed within 4- 8 weeks. Once the crown is fitted, your implant treatment is complete and will require little additional work.

POST IMPLANT CARE Our team will provide detailed advice and guidance on the after-care of your dental implant, such as temporary adjustments to your diet and brushing softly. Once healed your dental implant will function much like your natural teeth and require minimal additional care apart from maintaining good oral hygiene.

Excellent oral hygiene in addition to regular check-ups is strongly advised to keep gum recession and bone loss at a minimum. Smoking tobacco should also be avoided as this increases bone loss and gum recession, as well as impairing the ability to fight infections during your recovery.

It is also advised to avoid alcohol for 2 weeks after the procedure as this may affect the healing of the tissue. You may also be required to have a soft food diet for up to 2 weeks after the procedure and avoid hot food and drinks during the recovery. 020 7099 5555 | [email protected] | WWW.MYHEALTHCARECLINIC.COM
