operations. This includes sea and lowerairspace surveillance, monitoring ofvessel behaviour, management ofincidents, and communications. Thesystem can use mobile surveillanceunits and the sensors on board of ownassets to maximize surveillancecoverage.

Information exchange withneighbouring systems greatly extendsthe reach of the system, allowingsuspect contacts to be picked up earlier.

In addition, the system provides toolsto find trends in historic data,providing much needed information toadjust strategies and policies.

The maritime transport world can be seen as four separatezones, each centred around a port:

1 The port itself where most of the economic activity takesplace, served by Port Management, Terminal Operationsand Vessel Traffic Services systems.

2 The area 12 nautical miles out of the coast on one side ofthe port and inland waterways on the other side, whereVessel Traffic Services systems play an important role.

3 Areas covered by Coastal Surveillance Systems.

Facilities in these zones support each other. Saab VTSsystems and platform protection systems often contribute to coastal surveillance systems, just as portmanagement and VTS systems are very muchinterconnected.

The V3000 VTS system provides VTS Operators with acomplete real-time traffic overview for inland shipping,ports, coastal waters and protection of platforms at sea. Itsupports users to ensure safe, secure and efficient vesseltraffic, and to manage environmental risks. The result ismaximum continuity in operations under all weather andvisibility conditions.

V3000 provides many features to make the life of officerseasier, such as an ergonomic user interface, integrated ship toshore communications and seamless integration with portmanagement systems. A true-to-life training simulatorquickly gets users up to speed.

V3000 is fully IALA compliant and is in use in over 70locations around the globe, including 5 of the world top 11container ports.

Originally AIS was intended for giving ships betterawareness of other vessels nearby. It was such a success that itnow has much wider applications.

The position, speed and identity a ship broadcasts throughits AIS transponder greatly improves the traffic image in theVTS centres on shore. It provides information for automaticlabelling of ships with name and destination, enhances shiptracking and often covers areas outside of radar range.

Saab is a pioneer in AIS, one of the first to supply shipborne,airborne and shore-based solutions. For India, China and theNetherlands, we have provided AIS shore networks withnational coverage, extending to hundreds of base stations.

We also provide secure AIS, allowing navy and lawenforcement to see without being seen, and to privatelycommunicate with authorised parties.

Saab is now working on the next generation AIS standardcalled VDES that will greatly enhance the capacity and rangeof AIS.

In Rotterdam a team of 70 VTS Operator helps to provide safepassage day and night to over 130 000 ships that visit every year.

Ports can be very complex environments, with manydifferent ship movements, resources, services and tariffs thatneed to be aligned for maximum efficiency. Saab’s KleinPortPort Management Information System (PMIS) bringssignificant returns on investment from day one.

A PMIS can automate many business and logistics processesin a port, and at the same time give users key information,alerts and analyses when they need them.

KleinPort is a modular, configurable software solution thatcombines the latest technology with industry best practicesfrom ports around the world.

It provides an end-to-end solution from vessel and resourcescheduling through activity tracking to billing, reliablyensuring the capture of key data and the consistent, timelygeneration of accurate invoicing.

In the same way KleinPilot provides a comprehensivesolution for managing maritime pilotage.

MARINE GEOMATICS

Safe navigation accurate charts and precise positioning ofships. Over the span of more than three decades, Saab'sdevelopment of the science of depth measurement and geo-location, has resulted in a true Swiss army knife of marinegeomatics tooling.

Our hydrographical software in combination with ournavigation solutions provide you with the tools to safelycontinue operations in zero visibility with centimetreaccuracy.

Quickly acquire, process, visualise and share measurementsof the underwater landscape. Above water features can beacquired at the same time for a full 3D terrain map of yourarea of interest.
