Last year, Congress made a lot of last-minute changes to the tax code that potentially can cause people to make errors or miss important deductions. If you’re feeling overwhelmed at the thought of preparing you own tax return, or if you just want to make certain you are getting the most benefit from all of the new tax laws, John S. Wood, CPA , P.A. (Professional Association) can help. “The tax laws change every year and it’s too easy to overlook or not be aware of deductions or credits to which you are enti- tled,” says Wood, whose office is located in the Palm Lake at Tampa Palms Office Build- ing on Amberly Dr. in Tampa Palms. “On too many occasions I have seen clients who have failed to claim a deduction or take a credit that would have exceeded the fee to have the return professionally prepared. The average taxpayer can save not only time, but potentially some money, by having their tax return professionally prepared. They also can avoid a great deal of stress and gain some peace of mind knowing that they are paying the minimum legal amount in taxes.” Wood’s full-service CPA firm offers tax preparation services for individuals, business- es, trusts and estates and also concentrates on providing monthly accounting and tax services to small- and medium-sized busi- nesses for a fixed monthly fee. “We do more than just prepare the tax return,” says Wood. “We review the prior year’s tax return and if it wasn’t prepared by us, we conduct an in-depth client interview and take a look at the client’s entire tax pic- ture. A good tax plan can help avoid unnec- essary taxes.” Included with all returns is a projection for the upcoming year and the firm also can prepare out-of-state returns. “We can also show how various life events may affect next year’s tax return,” says Wood. “We focus on providing our tax clients with the service they need. We don’t try to sell our clients other services. If it becomes obvious that a client needs guidance in financial planning, estate planning, or some other area, we can refer them to experienced professionals in those areas.” Wood lives in New Tampa and has Making Sense Of The Tax Code is New Tampa CPA’s Job more than 12 years experience as a CPA.
