YOUR SCHOOL NEWS IN THIS ISSUE
It seems that nowadays almost everyone
in America has an iphone or a mac. Most
businesses use Apple as their main source
of technology. Today’s Apple technology
is smarter and more complex than ever
before. Where did this brilliant stuff
come from? Believe it or not, Apple Inc.
began in a humble garage. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, the
founders of Apple, both withdrew from
Reed College and UC Berkeley in
1975. They wanted to create a new type
of computer for people with little
money. Soon, Apple I was created In
Steve Job’s parents’ garage. It used a TV
as the screen, while most computers at
the time did not have a screen at all. It
was much faster, simpler, and smaller
than other computers at the
time. Eventually, 200 Apple I’s were
constructed. Then, Steve Wozniak began
work on Apple II, a greatly improved
version of Apple I. Many of the features
Woziak and Jobs wanted to put in Apple
I could not be done because of
costs. Now that they had made a profit
from Apple I, there was enough money to
start construction on Apple II. When it
was complete, it offered revolutionary
features, including graphics, a new way
to store memory, and eventually
color. By then, Apple started to become
well known. Since Apple II’s success, New versions
of the Apple computer were
made. Eventually, Apple computers
started to be call macintoshes, or
“mac’s.” (A type of apple) In 2001, The
first ipod was released, broadening
Apple’s production of
technology, iphones soon
followed. Right now, the iphone 6s is the
newest version of the iphone. The 7th
will be released this fall. While Apple
began with a rough beginning, it
promises to be the most well-known
technology company.
ROMANS 3:23 Bible verse reflection from Tre Holmes
My favorite Bible verse is
Romans 3:23. “For all have sinned and
fall short of the glory of God.” It lets me
know that we are all sinners and we need
to change our ways. What is your favorite
verse? Take a moment to reflect on the
meaning of this one. God bless!

Superhero movies are the big trend at the moment, we see live-action movies, TV shows, cartoon movies and shows. Superheroes are the hype right now. Most superhero movies are family friendly others are not so much(especially ones in a particular red and black suit played by the former Green Lantern) either way we all love superheroes!
A lesser known movie in this genre is Megamind. The movie stars Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, David Cross, and Brad Pitt. Megamind(Will Ferrell) plays a Lex Luthor-esque character who kills Metroman(Brad Pitt0 who is the hero. The movie then deals heavily with the result of this action.
The movie overall is very clean with no language and no blood. For a PG movie it does have a lot of cartoon violence and emotionally heavy scenes. It is a very safe movie though for all of the family.
SCRIPTURE HIGHLIGHT
ROMANS 12:21 Scripture highlight by Shay Calvert “Do not be overcome by evil, but
overcome evil with good.” Romans
12:21 This verse has spoken to me on the
darkest of days. Remember, that
while today might be bad, it won't be bad
forever.

FUZZY’S TACOS
RESTAURANT CRITIQUE by Jack Robinson
Fuzzy’s Taco Shop
(http://www.fuzzystacoshop.com/) is where
parents go to get their street tacos and where
kids go to get
nachos. Their
nachos are
exquisitely
cheesy and
substantial
portions are
given every
time. You order by getting in the usually short
lines and giving your order to the nice man or
woman behind the register. You receive a flat
pager that flashes and vibrates when your
meal is done.
The menu includes a wide variety of tacos,
burritos, enchiladas, nachos and side dishes.
The tacos are only $1.99. You can choose
fillings like chicken, beef, fish and pork. The
tacos are made with soft, corn tortillas filled
with meat, lettuce, tomatoes and other
delicious items.
But the best part is the hot sauce otherwise
known as Butt Burning Sauce. There is a huge
bottle at every table so you can apply it
liberally to your food.
The atmosphere is cheery and casual. Perfect
for families or for students who drive
themselves. There are both tall tables with bar
stools and low booths. The walls are covered
with cartoon fish because their fish tacos are
so popular. T-shirts that are for sale are also
on the wall. The decorations are very busy
and there are a couple of TV’s to watch.
During the warmer weather months, there is a
nice patio to enjoy.
Good food, fantastic prices and a fun place to
have lunch after church or hang out with your
friends, Fuzzy’s will be sure to be your new
favorite restaurant.
BOOK REVIEW
Book Review by
Brad Huddelston
Wonder is the novel
by R. J. Palacio is a
book about
acceptance and not
judging people by
their cover. Born
with a rare facial
deformity gene,
August “Auggie” Pullman, even after 27
surgeries, still has terrible facial
deformity. He lives in upstate New York
with his mom, dad and his sister Via. All
August wants is to be accepted in his new
school, Beecher Prep. Throughout the
book there are many instances of other
people being cruel. The book is told by
different characters’ points of view. The
characters are the heart of this story, with
each character having a different opinion
on the situation at hand, and the author
captures the children's voices so well in
the book. There are so many instances
when reading the book that made me feel
depressed, but I kept wanting to come
back for more of August’s story.
These Polaroid Pictures
Poem by Lauryn Ervin
These Polaroid pictures keep my
memories safe.
These Polaroid pictures remind me of the
golden days.
The hazey hillside, the crisp air, the
sunrise.
These Polaroid pictures hold my life,
I can't believe I have to say goodbye.
This poem is about capturing your
precious memories and keeping them safe
inside pictures. I feel like a memory lasts
longer when you take a picture of it,
because while you may forget... the
pictures won't. This poem was inspired
by my Polaroid camera.
Quidditch
By Emma Wong
Quidditch is a very abnormal and
unique sport. It was originally created by
J.K. Rowling in the books of Harry
Potter. This sport can be dangerous, but it
also sounds like an amazing game. The
goal of the game is to score as many
points on the other team as possible.
Quidditch is like a mixture of basketball
and football on a flying broomstick.
There are seven players on a team. Three
chasers, one keeper, two beaters, and one
seeker. There isn’t just one ball in this
game like basketball or many other
sports, there are four. There are two
bludgers, one quaffle, and one golden
snitch. The two bludgers try to knock
people off of their brooms by flying at
them and hitting them repeatedly until
they fall off. The beaters on the team try
to smack the bludgers away from their
team and at the opposite team with a
stick. The quaffle it the biggest ball in the
game and it is used to score baskets. The
chasers try to get on the other side of the
Quidditch field to score a basket with the
quaffle. There are three baskets on each
side of the field and every time a basket
is made, ten points go to the team who
scored. The keeper tries to block the
quaffle from scoring in their baskets.
Finally there is the golden snitch. The
golden snitch is the smallest ball of the
game and it is about the size of a quarter.
The seeker flies above the game and tries
to catch the snitch. Since there is only
one seeker on a team, the two seekers
from the opposing teams will chase the
golden snitch until it is caught. Once the
snitch is caught, the game ends, and the
team whose seeker caught the snitch, is
rewarded with one hundred fifty points. As one can see, Quidditch can be
dangerous with the bludgers and flying
brooms, but it is very interesting and
exciting. It would be wonderful if we
could play this game; however obtaining
the equipment to do so at the present
time, is only possible in books and your
imagination!

Blog Review
By: Daniel Beckworth
This week I read a blog on a website
called Blogs By Kids. There was one
article that stood out from the rest that I
found interesting. It was about baseball
and full of facts. It is called: “Sox in the
Seven?
Not During the Curse.” The blog I read
is about the deal the Boston Red Sox
made with the New York Yankees in
1919. In this deal, the Red Sox sold
baseball player, George Herman Ruth,
better known as “Babe” Ruth, for
$100,000. At the time that was
considered a lot of money. While this
deal seemingly helped the Yankees to
win the world series, Boston soon
realized that they had made a terrible
decision. Because they did not win
another World Series for the next 86
years, this decision came to be known as,
The Curse of the Bambino!
When I read this blog I found it to be
backed up with tons of historical
facts. The blogger also added visuals of
the main players. I enjoyed reading this
entertaining blog.
There was nothing inappropriate in the
writing and it is great for any age
group. I would rate this blog a 10 out of
10. If you want to read this blog for
yourself, go to the link below:

Thanks for reading my piece in the
newsletter. I hoped you enjoyed it!
by: Sophie Shedid Grayson Brown is one of my good
friends, so I decided to interview her so
y’all can know
her a little bit
more. Grayson
is an outgoing
15 year-old
freshman in
high school.
She is the
oldest of 6
children, the
youngest of
whom was born
just a few weeks ago. Their family lives
in Fort Worth, and often go to the beach
together. She enjoys listening to music,
just like I do. She turns up the radio
whenever the song “Me, Myself, and I”
by G. Eazy/Bebe Rexha comes on. In
case you didn’t know, it’s a hip-hop/rap
song, the type Grayson really gets happy
about; but at times, she prefers the more
calming music of Ed Sheeran. She
usually watches TV during her free time
and loves any type of comedy,
particularly Modern Family. The
romance movie “The Fault In Our Stars”,
in her opinion, is a very inspirational
movie. She isn't a huge fan of school, but
enjoys taking Ancient Civilizations and
the Bible with Mrs. Debbie. Grayson also
appreciates good food. She is obsessed
with pizza…. and Chick-fil-a she
wouldn’t mind at all! Now very few
people know her middle name, and
neither she nor I are going to tell you.
Lastly, when asked what her favorite
quote is, she cited one of Oscar Wilde's
sayings: "Be yourself, cause everyone
else is taken." I hope, now that you’ve
learned more about Grayson, you will
want to be her friend, too!

Hello, I'd like you to meet Diego Aviles...
he is 13 and likes to hangout with friends,
play video games, do homework so he
can play more video games, and cook.
Diego's favorite place to eat is Jimmy's
Big Burgers. When he grows up he
wants to be a dinosaur. His favorite class
at mra is creative writing with Ms.
Ginger. If he had to move somewhere he
would like to move to a tropical island.
His favorite candy is chocolate and his
favorite season is winter. His favorite
board game is Battle Ship. His favorite
video game is Undertale. I decided to
ask Diego what three super powers he
would have if he had them, and he replied
that they would be teleportation,
telekinesis and time control. If you see
him in the hall (I could not come up with
this) he said that we should give him
food.
TAME By Anthony Garcia
Matthew Road Academy
competed in the Dallas TAME (Texas
Alliance for Minorities in Engineering)
regionals. Our three competitors, Nathan
Sands, Eric Scarpinato, and Ephraim
Shirey, were tested in math, science and
engineering. Nathan took 2nd place in
both math and science, and Eric took 6th
place in math. Nathan will go on to
compete in the State regionals this
April. When Ephraim and Eric were asked
which one the preferred more the test or
the project they both said they loved the
test more so that means Ms.Amend did a
pretty good job preparing them for the
test. Which one would you prefer doing
more a test or little project? Tame is a non profit organization to teach
kids to learn and love math and science
more. Remember, TAME is open to all
students 6th grade and up. Next year it
would be really cool if everybody at
MRA went to the TAME regionals!
A Short Story
PRISON
By. Elijah Lyons
Hi, I am in a foreign prison for
spreading the word of Jesus Christ, and I
want to tell you my tale. Several years
ago, I was lying in bed praying about
where I should take my next mission trip.
God moved me to go to Isis and tell
about the word of God. So I obeyed His
command and the next day I bought a
ticket to the Middle East, and to Isis. I
arrived there in the morning and found a
good friend
that I knew
from the
USA. I
stayed there
for a few days
with him, and
then on the
5th day I went
to the streets.
I started
telling about the word of God and at one
point there was about 50 people gathered
around me. Suddenly, I saw a man with
a gun approach and I was scared, but I
knew I was in good hands with the Lord
our Savior. The gunman came up to me
and said to stop or I’d die. I said no, I
would not stop. He raised his gun and
pulled the trigger--nothing
happened! Five more times he pulled the
trigger and nothing happened! He
grabbed me by the arm and took me to a
prison type of place. He threw me in a
cell and I’ve been there for about 3 years.
For a couple of years I did not know why
God had me there. But after 3 years I
finally knew….God had me there
because every prisoner that came into
that cell with me got saved. At least 100
to 200 prisoners have been saved. And to
know it all started with a prayer.
ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS & THE BIBLE
BY: Kaylen Hames
In Ancient Civilizations class we learn bamazing things about different events and time periods that take place in the bible. We play fun games which help our learning, like bingo. We watch many educational videos on youtube, a “Travel Through History” disc, and even a video made by a fellow classmate. We learn by eating snacks and having fun conversations. This class consists of many projects that are really fun to do. You also get a chance to express yourself while tieing it into the lesson. This class is led by the amazing Ms. Debbie! She helps make our learning history fun and gives us something to look forward to in the day. If you don't already take this class, you should try it out next year!
CHAPEL By Hannah Lyons
For those who weren't there for
Chapel on the 14th of February, Jake
Wulbecker had an amazing message. He
read from many books of the Bible and
covered many topics. The one that stood
out to me was in 1 Corinthians 12:15-30.
The message was that everyone in a
church plays a certain part, and if the
church says that it doesn’t need someone
in the church, it is like the hand saying to
the legs that they don’t need them. It
sounds kind of funny, but it is true.
Mr. Jake also hit us up on a cool
game to demonstrate what he meant. He
had two rows of four people hold hands,
and he made a signal to the first person in
the line and once they saw the signal they
had to squeeze the next person’s hand, so
on and so forth. Mr. Jake said that if we
took a player from one of the rows how
was the squeezing of hands going to
make it to the end of the line? This is just a small recap on chapel
because there was so much more to his
message. Attending Chapel can help you
learn how to live a life for Jesus. So make
sure to come the MRA chapel on March
3rd at 7:45! See you there!

Meet Kaya, a fourth grader here at
MRA. This is her first year and she
really enjoys it. Kaya says her two
favorite classes here at MRA are math
and ballet. Out of school, she loves to do
gymnastics, help in the kitchen, and make
funny videos. She also finds enjoyment
in hanging out with her two sisters, who
go to MRA too. While doing homework
or gymnastics, Kaya always listens to
music. “That’s How You Change The
World” by The Newsboys, “Keys to The
Kingdom” by Group 1 Crew, and “First”
by Lauren Daigle are a few of her
favorite songs. When she was little, she
went to Hawaii a couple of times and fell
in love with it. Her favorite things in
Hawaii are the beaches and shaved ice
(similar to snow cones but better). That’s
just a little bit about Kaya. If you see her
in the halls say “Hi”.
ELEMENTARY STUDENT SPOTLIGHT aSk tHe RoAdiEs By: Alison Wilkins
I got to ask some of the Publications team,
or “the Roadies”, some fun questions. First I
asked what the weirdest thing they have
ever done is, and here're a few of my
favorite answers: “One time I was in my
kitchen by myself, and I was wearing
slippery socks while on the counter. So I
jumped from one counter to the other, and I
just fell, SMACK!” -Anonymous; “One
time I climbed onto the roof, and I saw a
squirrel, so I chased it.” -Tre. I was also able
to ask a fun question about weird pet-
peeves, and here're a few of the answers:
“When parents let their kids just stare at
you, and they just stare at you and it’s
reeeaallyy awkward.” -Anthony; “When
moms talk weird; for example, when they
say ‘mommy’s really tired right now’” -
Elijah. There are some pretty interesting
people in the publications team (I am one of
them).

Family Spotlight
The McClellin family
By: Alyssa McClellin
This month’s spotlighted family will be on my own, the McClellin’s! Many of you know us, but I’d like to give you some fun facts you might not be as familiar with. Our family is one of 5, really 7 if you count our dogs, well then add another 6 for our chickens… we’re a happy family of 12! You can find us always, always on the go, but we treasure quality time on our annual family vacations. My dad, and Mrs. Candice’s husband, Daniel is an engineer who drafts plans for a construction company. Mrs. Candice, as you all well know, is the administrator for MRA. She constantly cries in movies, really loves salt & vinegar chips, and is an undercover supermom. I’m the oldest, and a senior here at MRA. If you asked my family, they might say that I sing musicals too much, find peace in hammocking, and oddly favor weird asian (boba) tea. Anabelle is the middle child, but nevertheless the loudest, wackiest, and most blunt of the crew! She has a partiality for Christian rap music and chocolate, all kinds. Alex loves his sisters, but really enjoys spending time with his best buds. He gets excited about trying new restaurants and spends every summer day possible swimming in our pool. On any free, weekend night you can find us all in our living room enjoying the newest movie, after we’ve come from dinner full of sushi - something we all love to eat!
JOIN THE CLUB
Next Year Publications will be an after school club
open to all writers.
How would you like to be the newspaper editor?

MUSIC REVIEW By: Esther Schmidt Song: James Dean & Audrey Hepburn Artist: Sleeping With Sirens “They say that love is forever Your forever is all that I need Please stay as long as you need Can't promise that things won't be broken But I swear that I will never leave Please stay forever with me” Basically what this song is saying is: Our love is all I
need, it’s my forever, so please stay with me, I know that
there might be challenges and we won't always be perfect
but I know that I won't ever leave… Relationships are
important. They hold a certain bond, that’s authentic and
hard to be broken, whether it be with God, siblings,
parents, friends, yourself… They are very important. HOLIDAY REPORT By: Mya Lightner
Right now we are in the wonderful month of
February. When you think of February holidays, you
automatically think of Valentine’s Day, but February is
actually known for more holidays than that. It is also
known for National Acts of Kindness Day which is
February 17 (who knew we had a day for that?!). Also,
there is Presidents Day, which is February 15, plus Be
Humble Day which is February 22 and more! So
whichever holiday you choose to celebrate, just know that
Valentine's Day is not the only holiday in the month of
February.
