Van Oord - BravenesFall pipe vessel
Bravenes of van Oord is one of the most innovative subsea rock installation vessels in the world. Electrical installation company Bakker Sliedrecht functioned as the coordinating contractor in the installation and the integration of the advanced technology that makes the vessel special.
DP 2-3 system
To guarantee pinpoint accuracy, the Braveness is designed with a DP 2
and 3 system, with four thrusters at the front and two at the rear, holding
the 154 meters long and 28 meters wide vessel in place and allow it to
safely operate close to offshore structures. For the DP system, Bakker
Sliedrecht had to double install all electro-technical installations and
drive systems. If the energy on one side of the system fails, the other side
takes over and the vessels stays in position.
Electrical system integration
During the construction, Bakker Sliedrecht was responsible for the
integration of all electrical systems and the coordination of participating
E-parties. Van Oord had the Bravenes built at the Sinopacifi c
Shipbuilding’s Ningbo shipyard in China. A technical innovation Bakker
Sliedrecht supplied are the active fi lter solutions in combination with the
electric drive systems. They save space and energy and prevent harmonic
distortion and thus the risk of energy losses, failure of electronic
equipment and overload.

Van OordTrailing suction hopper dredger Volvox Terranova
While working on a project in Indonesia, trailing suction hopper dredger Volvox Terranova was heavily damaged by an old sea mine.
Van Oord decided to repair and modernize their vessel at the same time.
Bakker Sliedrecht was part of this great project and got the assignment
to modify the suction tube confi guration and restore the electrical
installations.
Modifi cation of suction tube
To increase production, the confi guration of the suction tube was
changed. The two submersible motors in the suction tube were
replaced by one motor that is more powerful. In addition, a new
electrical drive system was installed that powers both the jet pump
as the dredging pump.
Restoring the electrical system
As the blast wave of the sea mine was very powerful, damage was
caused throughout the ship. Therefore, Bakker Sliedrecht inspected
and repaired the entire electrical system from power generation to
power distribution.

BoskalisBokalift 1 – conversion - 2018
Bakker Sliedrecht has played an important part in the conversion of Boskalis’ heavytransport vessel (HTV) Finesse into transport and installation crane vessel (HLV) Bokalift 1.
During the conversion Bakker Sliedrecht was responsible for the
supervision and coordination between the client and all participating
electro technical parties. During the conversion, the large ballasting
tanks, which made the heavy transport vessel semi-submersible, were
converted to give way to the requirements of diesel generators and
switchboards. These are necessary for the new thrusters, which keep
the ship in position. Because of DP2, Bakker Sliedrecht had to double
install all electrical installations and drive systems - existing and new -
in order to guarantee safe operations of the systems at all time.
Bakker Sliedrecht coordinated all installations and the commissioning.
All electrical installations, switchboards, engines and generators were
produced in Sliedrecht or elsewhere in Europe and then transported
to the yard in Singapore. In the second phase, the company assisted
in the installation of the crane. In the third phase, the crane vessel was
subjected to a large number of tests in the Failure Mode and Effects
Analysis (FMEA) at the coast of Cape Town.
