THE RIGHT, OR WRONGSIDE OF TOWN? The reputation of the surrounding

neighbourhood is something thatcan dramatically affect the value ofyour property.

Everyone desires the right housein the right place, close to the bestschools and work, with low crimerates and within easy access ofleisure facilities. Such places doexist, albeit at a premium, but inreality this perfect combination is

hard to come by. What might have been a nice

area when you bought could haverapidly become an undesirablelocation for a number of reasons.

The transparency of crime ratesand the ease with which potentialbuyers can search for suchinformation means any increasewill impact on the value of aproperty and may well be used as abargaining tool.

Whilst such developments arealmost impossible to control orreverse it pays to open and honestwith buyers. Often they will knowthe information after having done

research so if you withhold suchinformation they might wonderwhat else you are hiding?

If there are certain stigmasattached to your property it is bestto be upfront and honest aboutthem. Far rather a potential buyerhear about superstitions associated

Canter Levin & Berg solicitors inLiverpool is introducing thefixed fee system to help combatthose who fall in between thecracks following the latest shakeup.

New City Vision hassecured funding for thenewly extended governmentbacked FirstBuy scheme.

The FirstBuy scheme offers a

stepping-stone approach intohome ownership. It benefits thehomebuyer by reducing theamount of deposit required to just5%, by cutting the initial cost ofhome owning a brand new home

by up to 20% which reduces themortgage borrowing requirements, helping lower the monthlymortgage repayments.

People that qualify will beoffered an equity loan jointly

funded by NCV and theGovernment, of up to 20% of thepurchase price. Most importantlythe equity loan is interest free forthe first five years, allowing asettling-in time for the homebuyer.

Louise Craven, NCV's salesmanager says: “We are delighted tobe one of the first house buildersto offer the newly extendedscheme in Liverpool. FirstBuy isavailable now on selected threeand four bedroom family homes atEllergreen. We are expectingstrong interest and are urging allhouse hunters to call in to thedevelopment as soon as possible tosee if they can qualify for thescheme.”

Under the scheme new threebedroom family homes at NewCity Vision’s Ellergreendevelopment with a market valueof £115,000 are available from aslittle as £92,000 now.

A new Liverpool agent isaiming to change the wayestate agents do businesswith a holistic approach thatputs customer satisfactionat the top of the priority list.

Address Properties opened late lastyear on Rose Lane and it is theirdifferent approach that they feel issetting them apart from otheragents in the industry.

The company offers all of itsservices “in-house”, with almost noelement of the home buying, maintenance or letting processoutsourced. Working in partnershipwith sister company BuildMaintenance, Address Propertiesare able to offer customers a one-stop shop for all of their needs.

Joint owner Joshua Marco says:“If there are any issues, we will bethere quickly and aim to resolveproblems as speedily and efficientlyas possible, often within the sameday. If tenants are happy, they are

more likely to stay in a propertyand in turn, this means ourlandlords are happy and confidentwith our service.”

Joshua, who runs AddressProperties with joint ownersAlexander Bennett and SimonMarco, says the trio pay particularattention to the wayin which they marketproperties and assuch have investedheavily inphotographyequipment in orderto ensure propertiesare always displayedin the best possibleway.

He says: “We willmake sure all of ourphotography is of thehighest quality, froma premier listing to astudent let – we aimto promote anyproperty to the best

of its potential, after all it is thephotographs that first catch peoplesattention.”

And while the agent is hoping tobe the best in the business, Joshuasays its important that thecustomer is always put first. He says: “If a customer comes to us

looking for a particular propertyand we are unable to meet theirrequirements, we are more thanhappy to point them in anotheragents direction if we know theydo. It is more important to put thecustomer first and offer them thebest possible service.”

Indie three-piece The Enemy’s latest tour rolls into Liverpool’sO2 Academy early this month. Your Move caught up with

drummer Liam Watts to find out about the band’s third studioalbum and what the future holds for this talented trio.

We’ve read that you originally formedThe Enemy back in 2006 because youwere bored. Where did your inspirationto get together come from? I think wewere at that age where you have to startmaking real decisions, you start gettingresponsibilities and you start feeling thepressure a bit. At the time we all had jobs, but were finding ourselves increasinglybored and frustrated. We'd all played a bitbefore, were good mates and music was abig part of all our lives. We basically had achat about how we wanted to give a band aproper go. We genuinely had the belief thatwe could make something of it and wehaven't looked back.It wasn’t long after the band formedthat your first album, ‘We Will Live andDie in These Towns’, went to numberone in the UK. It must have beenexciting to suddenly hear your musicall over the radio? Looking back it didall happen so quickly, but we didn't knowany different and were so up for it. I don'tthink there was any stopping us. I firstheard us on the radio on Zane Lowe’sFresh Meat. He plays three bands and hislisteners choose a winner. I didn't know wewere on it but he had played two bandsand I thought, “we're better than them!"Before I knew it he was playing our firstever demo. Me and my mate looked at eachother and he nearly crashed the car.

He pulled over and we were absolutelybuzzing! We won and it’s one of myfavourite memories! What was it like being propelled intothe music industry and seeing such afantastic response as a young band? The first time round it was all new to us,but having good people around us made iteasy for us to focus on the things thatmattered. We were writing songs about ourlives and from observing what was going onaround us in Coventry. When we startedplaying up and down the country werealised it wasn't unique to Coventry, people from all over could completely relateto us and that connection with our fans isone of the most important things to us. I don't really like using the word 'fans', its abit impersonal. But you know what I mean-real people with hearts and minds who a lotof people in music take for granted.Your latest album ‘Streets in the Sky’has been described as a mature nod toyour first album, how do you think thatthe band has evolved since your firstsessions in the studio. Sometimes I thinkwe have completely evolved and other timesit feels like the very first time all over again, and that’s a great thing. Three albums in wehave experienced a lot. We can take all thatexperience and couple it with the fact wehaven't changed as people and everythingthat makes 'The Enemy' just happened. With Streets in the Sky we realised that andeverything clicked into place. What do you make of new bandstoday? Is there anyone out there whoinspires or excites you? Not that manynew bands have made it big over the lastcouple years, but its great seeing people like

Jake Bugg doing well. New bands formingand writing their first songs inspires usThere are so many bands under the radarthat are knocking at the door and will breakthrough soon and this really excites us.Do you feel any responsibility to upand coming bands now that you’re in aposition to give them some exposure?Yeah, I think it’s important that bands lookafter each other. We were given greatopportunities by established bands whenwe were starting out that really made adifference to us. We always try and do theright thing, from giving a band words ofencouragement on twitter, to giving peoplea support slot- a little can go a long way.Drummer Tom has his ‘NEXTBiGTHING’project going where he's really putting a lotinto unsigned bands. Check it out!Do you enjoy a Liverpool audience? What can fans expect to see at yourupcoming Liverpool gig? We've notplayed Liverpool that many times, I don’tknow why but that’s why we are lookingforward to the gig so much. The crowd canexpect 100% as always, we have massiverespect for the people who come to our gigsand support us in all the ways they do. We have three albums under our belts so wewill be playing a packed set. Expect theusual carnage of an Enemy gig. What’s next for The Enemy? At theminute, we're focused on this run of gigsthen we have a little bit over in Americaand then we'll be looking at festivals. Wealready have an eye on the next album andwill be writing in between everything else.

• Catch The Enemy on tour at 02Academy Liverpool on 9 March.

Cosmetics brand Lush hasopened a new spa inLiverpool city centre.

One of only six Lush spas in theUK, the new spa combines thebrand’s love of all things fragrant

and hand-made with interestingsound and shape elements.

Mark Constantine, the owner ofthe Lush chain, is inspiredby a condition he has calledscent shape synaesthesia, acondition where heperceives everything hesmells as having a definiteshape.

This in part is the reasonand inspiration behind someof the treatments at the Spa.

Treatments with monikerssuch as The Lush SoundBath, The Spell andSynaesthesia are describedas quintessentially English

and use sound and smell to altermood.

Taking as fresh an approachwith its treatments as it does withits charming home-madecosmetics and toiletries, alltreatments use commissionedsoundtracks and of course sweet-smelling oils, essences andcosmetics as well as hot and coldstones.

The cosmetics chain alreadyhas spas in London, Edinburgh,Leeds, Paris and Tokyo.

he walk to theMalmaison hotel alongthe city’s waterfront inthe current climate iscertainly bracing, but

with top notch food, sumptuously grand designs andatmosphere it is certainly worththe trip.

On entering the renownedhotel chain you are greeted bythe flames of a free standing firein the centre of reception, astand out feature whichnot only looks goodbut is a welcomewarmer afterstepping in from thearctic climes.

Over a mouth-watering three courselunch at the hotel Imeet Claire Jarvis,Redrow’s sales director whotells me about Redrow’supcoming involvement in the2013’s First Time Buyer Show.

Redrow is exhibiting at theshow as well as sponsoring a‘First Time Buyers Clinic’ with apanel of experts to guide firsttime buyers through theminefield that can be the homebuying process.

“If first time buyers have any

questions, they can bring themto me,” says Claire. “We willalso have financial and legaladvisors on the day to helpanswer any questions buyersmight have. “

With over 14 years ofexperience in the industry,Claire has had quite anillustrious career since startingas a sales consultant at Bellway

Homes at the age of 22.Since then she has

worked atcompanies suchas Knight Frank,Crosby Homes,HamptonsInternational,Charles Church

and Persimmon,before taking her

post at Redrow. “It is nice to come back

to working at a traditional homeseller like Redrow, “says Claire.“Redrow’s new build propertiesare modelled on the arts andcrafts movement and have a lotmore original design featuresthan your typical new buildhome.”

In fact, Claire bought hercurrent home in Altrincham,Manchester, from Redrow before

she even worked for thecompany which clearlydemonstrates her love of whatshe sells.

She now heads up a largeteam of staff but credits her daysin the thick of it with hercurrent success.

“Working as a sales consultantin the industry means that Iknow what motivates the guys inthe sales room which helps a lotin my role,” says Claire.

Both feeling the need for somewarming comfort food Claireopts for a roasted red pepperThai broth soup to start whichshe says ‘is lovely with a definitewarming kick’.

Seated in between a smallwedding reception in theboutique room and a coupletasting food for their upcomingnuptials in the private kitchenroom, we are certainly in goodcompany in the restaurant.

I start with herb crusted fieldmushrooms, before we both optfor a main of Moroccan chicken.I finish with the poached exoticfruits of vanilla pannacottawhile Claire opts for a chocolatebrownie with chantilly cream.

Both suitably at burstingpoint and more than pleased

with our afternoon lunch, Clairetells me what is coming up in2013 for Redrow.

The housing developercurrently has two sites inLiverpool, at Cressington Heathin Garston and SummerfieldPark in Broadgreen and is set toopen a third with King David’sPark in L15 Liverpool.

And the developer islaunching a new online servicecalled ‘My Redrow’ this Easterbank holiday weekend.

“This new service will allowprospective Redrow homeownersto design their new Redrowhomes online from the comfortof their own couch, wheneverthey want and save designpreferences to their account tocome back to later, instead ofhaving to decide in our office. This is something that we thinkour customers will really love,”says Claire.
