Straight or sheathThis is a great shape for accentuating a tall
figure by elongating the line of the body, and
flatters a fairly straight, rectangular figure with
small bust and hips, avoid if you are curvy.
So you’ve found your perfect
fit, he’s everything you’ve
wanted, but what do you
wear? What’s your perfect
dress for your special day?
Here we give you a few tips to
help you choose what to wear
on your wedding day.
You will come across various
shapes and styles during
your search for the perfect
dress. By picking the perfect
silhouette to suit your shape
- you can ensure you will feel
beautiful on the day.
FullThis glamorous style is designed to impress
and as a bride to be, even if you don’t end up
buying one - you should definitely try at least
one of these on. It isn’t very often that you
can wear such a gown, but with the fabulous
corsetry and soft floating skirts this style can
create a tiny waist and hide anything from
the waist down.
Bias-cutPerfect for petite frames and for slim torsos
with shapely hips, the fish-tail effect that
the bottom sweeps out beautifully into a very
graceful train and balances out the hips.
A DRESS to impress
PrincessThis gown looks great on all shapes and
sizes. It flows from bodice to skirt without
defining lines, and with clever detailing it
brings out the best in your figure and dress
- perfect if you want to give yourself height,
and keep your dress classical and elegant.
Two-piece straightTwo-piece dresses are great for figures
that are not necessarily in proportion. For
example if you have a size 12 torso and a
size 14 hip, but still want to accentuate your
great figure, a corseted bodice with separate
skirt may be just what you are looking for.
11Email: [email protected] | www.yourweddingscene.co.uk
A-lineThis gown has an empire-style bodice which cuts under the bust.
This can be extremely flattering regardless of bust size providing
you get the neckline right. Smaller busted women should go for a
scoop neckline and a small amount of detail around the bodice and
larger busted women should opt for a square or cowl neckline which
accentuates the curve but hides a little cleavage to create a sensual
effect.

GUESTSGet this one out of the way first - if you sit down with your families and partners, and work out the maximum number of guests you will be inviting, this will give you an idea of the size of venue you will need. It will also help when planning your budgets and what venue to choose - for example will there be lots of children? Will you need separate areas where the older guests can enjoy the quiet away from the disco, does it have plenty of parking - the option for overnight stays and is it easy for people to get to using public transport, or disabled access? Will we be able to use our own caterers, supply our own drink, place a marquee etc, etc?
Once all of this is established and you’ve decided on either a civil ceremony or church, you can start your hunt for the perfect venue.
THE HUNTIf your time is short and you like to keep informed go online. By using search engines you can place your key words such as, ‘Wedding Venues Peterborough UK’ which will bring up a list for you to look at. Many sites such as www.hitched.co.uk will have venues in your criteria listed, and if you’re looking for inspiration or are planning to get married away from the local area this is a great place to start.
• Wedding Magazines will give you ideas ofhow certain weddings work in different types of ways, and many regional magazines will hold adverts for venues, so if you see one pick it up! • Civil ceremony venues have licences for amaximum number of guests. Keep an eye on the venues you fall in love with and make sure that there is enough room for your guests - • negotiate- if it’sslightlyoutofyourbudget• ask if you could have a simpler wedding
breakfast, and serve wedding cake as a dessert, or stick to 1 bottle of each on the table. Many venues will also hold mid-week events or Sunday weddings at a reduced cost - it’s worth looking at what savings can be made if you switch to a Friday or Sunday Wedding.
• Askpeopleabout theirweddingday -visitpotential venues for a meal, or book one of their evening events and assess their planning and organisation. Remember it’s your day - you’ve spent months organising it and when you hand the event over, you want to be confidant that theirEventsCoordinatorisincontrol.Ask toseepicturesofpreviouseventsheld inthe venue - this will give you an idea of what it looks like dressed. are there plenty of places for you to get great photographs too?
If you’ve already attended a wedding at a venue you’re considering - ask what else has been done in the past, different to the one you attended.
Visit the venue around the time of year you will be getting married, if you have the luxury of time, to ensure you are happy with the outside space and planting - court yards look very different in May than September.
MAKING YOUR MOVEOnce you’ve established your short list - ring round and get brochures sent - if they do not
send them out at your request - consider what else may not get done. my figure and I instantly fell in love with the 2nd dress i tried on which was a beautiful ivory silk dupioni strapless gown with a chapel length train by Justin Alexander. I always thought that it was a cliché when people say you know which is ‘the dress’ for you when you try it on, but this was definitely the case! With only 6 months notice we were working on a tight deadline but Gemma ensured the dress would be available for the day.
I was so impressed with the service I received on my initial visit to Miss
Barnsdale Lodgea venue withoutcompromiseHaving looked at several venues within the area we knew as soon as we saw Barnsdale Lodge it was the place for us.
Not only did we hold our reception in the Barn Suite Ballroom which is a beautiful converted barn, we also married there. The ballroom has an elegant yet relaxed feel with its silk draped ceiling and chandeliers through to the grand piano and comfy seating area. We married in November and the weather was crisp and bright and the beautiful countryside which surrounds the lodge made for stunning backdrops on our photos as did the picturesque courtyard.
The day itself was simply perfect, Paul Freeman (General Manager) and his team were on hand from start to finish to ensure that everything ran like clockwork. The food which was served throughout the day was outstanding and several of our guests commented on the quality and how delicious it was.
One of my biggest concerns when planning my wedding was that I did
not want it to feel like a production line and at Barnsdale this simply did not happen as they offer a personalised and tailor-made service. Right from our very first visit to Barnsdale we were made to feel welcome. I simplye would not hesitate to recommend the Lodge as they made our special day a truly magical affair.
The Brides OutfitHaving looked over a few bridal magazines I could have felt overwhelmed with the sheer volume of styles available. Having been recommended a few local bridal boutiques my mum and I called on Miss V Bridal in Market Deeping, which was a relatively new boutique. The atmosphere in the boutique was warm and welcoming and Gemma instantly made me feel at ease. Gemma produced a number of dresses for me to try that she felt would suit

V that I called up the other boutiques that I had made appointments with and cancelled them!
The BridesmaidsI had 2 bridesmaids and 1 flower girl in attendance on the day. I had originally hoped for navy dresses but despite an extensive search, I never felt happy with any i viewed. I therefore opted for a deep aubergine colour and found exactly what I was looking for in Debenhams bridal
range. The girls wore full length slightly flared dresses which were teamed with matching boleros. My Flower Girl wore an ivory tulle dress again from Debenhams which i matched up with a fur bolero.
The FlowersI knew from the offset that I did not want the more modern hand tied bouquet but I also wanted to shy away from the more traditional full bouquet. I opted for orchids
as the main flower and having spoken with my cousin who is a professional florist (Flowers By David) we decided upon a delicate purple freesia and small rosebuds for my bouquet along with a slightsprinkling foliage. The bridesmaids carried smaller versions of my bouquet & the table centre pieces along with the venue itself were also decorated using the same flowers.

that everything ran like clockwork.

Mr & Mrs ParkinsonThe Honeymoon We booked our honeymoon through the team at Inspirational Travel who are based in Wittering. The team there specalise in tailor-made holidays and honeymoons and after much discussion we decided that we would take our honeymoon in the Maldives. With its powder soft sands, warm azure blue waters and tropical temperatures it sounded like the ideal dream destination.
We opted for a 12 night stay split over two islands. Our days were spent soaking up the sun on the beautiful beaches that surround the island, snorkelling on the resorts superb house reef and pampering ourselves in the stunning Spa. We opted for a water villa which came with its own private plunge pool, sheer bliss! The cuisine served was simply out of this world and we over indulged on more than one occasion!! The staff were superb and ensured that we came away with many happy memories that will stay with us forever.

This saying dates back to Victorian time and
the full version is ‘something old, something
new, something borrowed, something blue
and a silver sixpence in her shoe:
Something Old: Represents the link with the
bride’s family and the past. A common solution many
bride’s choose is to wear a piece of family jewellery or their
mother’s or grandmother’s wedding dress.
Something New: Represents good fortune and
success in the bride’s new life. The wedding dress is often
chosen as the new item.
Something Borrowed: To remind the bride
that friends and family will be there for her when help is
needed. The borrowed object might be something such as a
lace handkerchief or an item of jewellery.
Something Blue: Symbolises faithfulness and
loyalty and dates back to biblical times when blue represented
purity. Frequently the bride’s garter is the blue item.
A Silver Sixpence: in her Shoe is to wish the
bride wealth, both financial and happiness.
Wedding Veil: The wedding veil hides the bride’s beauty
and wards off evil spirits. Another explanation is that during the
times of arranged marriages the bride’s face would be covered until
the groom had commited to the marriage.
Where to Stand: Symbolises faithfulness and loyalty
and dates back to biblical times when blue represented purity.
Frequently the bride’s garter is the blue item.
A Silver Sixpence in her Shoe is to wish the bride wealth, both
financial and happiness.
The bride stands on the left of the groom during the marriage
ceremony to allow his sword arm to be free ready to fight off other
men who may want her as their bride.
Confetti: Confetti has replaced rice or grain in modern times,
the rice was thrown at the bride and groom to encourage fertility.
Wedding Bouquet: The throwing of the wedding
bouquet was introduced from America and it is said that who ever
catches the bouquet will be next to be married.
Wearing Pearls: To some, pearls represent future tears
and are a bad sign. However, to others, the wearing of pearls takes
the place of the bride’s real tears, thus she’ll have a happy, tear-free
wedded life.
The Threshold: Carrying the bride over the threshold
protects her from any evil spirits that may be lurking in the new home.

Wedding hymns and music
Having the right hymns can make a real difference
to your wedding. The priest who is conducting the
service will want to meet with you to discuss the music,
hymns and readings you would like to use. You may
have some favourites which make deciding easy, but if
you are not a regular church-goer or if many of your
friends are not, you may want to think carefully about
which hymns to choose.
If there is going to be a choir, they will be able to take
a lead with the singing, but otherwise you want hymns
which everyone can sing easily and understand.
Normally, up to three hymns can be incorporated into
Christian church wedding ceremonies, featuring at the
beginning, middle and end or the service. However, all
of this is at the discretion of your officiant, so make sure
you check out what wedding hymn options are open to
you before making the final decision.
How do you go about choosing hymns? Churches
sometimes have a tape of the choir singing some of the
most popular hymns. You could borrow this to listen to
together. The priest may make some suggestions to you
or lend you a hymn book. There may be an opportunity
to meet the organist or choirmaster and they will help
reassure you about your hymn choice.
When getting married in a registry office, you can
choose your own music that reflects the day. Some
venues limit the choice to three songs, one when you
are entering, one when you are signing and one when
you are leaving. You may also like to have music played
whilst the guests are being seated. It also depends on
the length of the service as to how many songs you will
need so it’s best to check with the venue first.

First step, understanding the speechThe pressure is on for you to write the
speech before you even begin to think
about any aspects of delivering it. Find
a time and place to be alone away from
distractions as you will need to give this
some real attention. Speeches should
be thought about and planned months
before the day and then fine tuned and
worked upon. Initially, as you sit down
to make a start on it for the first time, it’s
not unusual to get a mind block and start
to doubt what it is you should be writing
and where on earth to start.
Firstly, it’s definitely not ideal to copy
someone else’s speech, it would be
the quick win but would not be from
the heart, and that’s where wedding
speeches should start, from the heart.
This is personal to you and should sound
sincere and be delivered in line with your
personality and terminology.
Either your wedding is looming or it’s your son’s/
daughters or best friend’s day, you’ve got an
important role to play and a nerve racking speech
not only to write but to stand up and deliver.
Wedding Market’s showroom in Elton offers one
to one and face to face help on speech writing and
delivery but here’s some top-line tips and advice to
start you off on the right track:
The order of speeches traditionally take
place after the wedding breakfast but
it’s more and more accepted that they
are delivered before the meal to allow
everyone to eat free of nerves.
The usual order of the speeches follows
something like this:
1. Toastmaster/venue coordinator
introduces the speeches
2. Father of the bride or someone close
to the bride
3. The Groom
4. The best man
5. The bride/bridesmaid/any other
speaker
After the toastmaster or appropriate
person has gathered everyone’s

Wedding SPEECHES
33Email: [email protected] | www.yourweddingscene.co.uk
Xxxxxxxx | xxxxxxxxxx
The bride and bridesmaid may or may not
want to speak and either is fully accepted.
If the bride speaks she reiterates the thanks
already given, especially for the gifts and
thanks anyone else who may have been
missed, friends of the family, the cake
maker, photographers and other services
and finally compliments her groom.
All speakers also have the opportunity to
add a story or two, jokes and heartfelt or
witty comments to their speech. Although it
may seem obvious to some who everybody
is, all speakers should all also introduce
themselves at the start of speaking for the
benefit of guests of guests, if delivered well,
introducing yourself at your own wedding
can also provide a giggle factor from a large
proportion of the guests.
There’s no hard and fast rule on how long
you should speak for but all speakers
should attempt to keep speeches fairly short
and leave the audience wishing that there’d
have been slightly more.
On what you shouldn’t include there are
some real lines not to cross such as there
should be NO SWEARING… not only for
the sake of any children in the room but
for the offence that it could cause to many
guests and also be caught on video for
many years to come.
You must be sincere and totally positive in
anything you say; therefore, as tempting
as it may be, there should be no mention
of ex partners of the bride and groom,
compatibility issues, rows or previously
failed marriages.
The PlanPreparation and research, can anyone
in their family circle provide you with
material too? Send out an email, do
some research, ask some questions,
especially of the mums and dads, you’ll
be amazed what funny little stories and
hideous pictures or cinefilm may then
unfold.
Think also about any appropriate props
you could use, for example the father of
the bride could produce baby toys, first
paintings of the bride as a child or even
a shocking picture from her teen years.
The best man could show photos on a
projector of some bad fashion days of his
best friend and groom. Props keep people
entertained but be cautious using any that
could cause offence or upset anyone.
Next is the really easy part as you now
know what’s expected you can begin to
break down your speech, add in your own
stories and props and we’ve even given
you sample headings to get you started,
we’ll offer this example from a best man,
who is tasked to be the most entertaining
of all the speakers:
Heading 1 – Introduction and thanks
Thank the groom for his toast to the
bridesmaids, then introduce yourself, say
how long you’ve known the groom and
the couple.
Please mention the Wedding Scene | Telephone: 01780 78361334
Wedding | sPeeches
Heading 2 – How you met the groom
and/or the couple, how the couple’s early
communications kept the phone company
in business to how his hobby of football
has now taken a downhill move towards
pink cushions and soft furnishings!
Heading 3 – one or two warm or funny
old stories.
There’s loads you can do here, some
things already mentioned plus - In your
speech you could compare the couple’s
names to known celebrities of the same
name or tell everyone the origins and
meanings of each of their names with
a funny twist. Use material from any
hobbies and interests they have from
trainspotting to bungee jumping to loving
Elvis, there’s got to be something funny
to quote to everyone but keep it open
enough to not be an ‘in-joke’, involve
everyone Show any pictures and slides
whilst still talking and keep them quick.
If you’ve got a camcorder in the family
you could make a short and emotive
film of what people think of the couple or
even humourously re-enact the couples
meeting and engagement with family
wearing wigs and playing characters.
Similarly, if you’re a bit creative why not
tell or create a story about them in the
form of a poem or a limerick. Bring other
people in the room into your stories where
possible.
Heading 4 – Wedding Related Story
- make a famous funny quote about
marriage or the wedding, or about
something that happened the year they
met or got engaged, or about the proposal
–there’susuallyanearmishapthatcan
be told which relates to this wedding day
. Play on the couple’s zodiac signs? You
can even pull something out of your hat
if you’re wearing one! Make it interesting,
how about giving a quiz type speech
and getting guest participation, perhaps
a guess the answer from a), b), c), d)
Heading 5 – Read messages from absent
family and friends.
Why not add in some of your own funny
words to jokily mis-read some messages
and cards
Heading 6 – toast to the groom,
give them both your best wishes for the
future, tell them how much you admire
them and toast.
If you’re increasingly one of two best
men then share out the plan together and
make sure that you flow like a double act
who have clearly worked together on the
speeches and think about each other’s
personalities, it’s ideal you have similar
personalities and bounce of each other
and don’t try to make one speaker look
flatter than the other, this sharing applies
whether you decide to deliver speeches
at the same time or separately. There
shouldn’t be a duplicate of stories and if
one best man is less ‘outgoing’ than the
other then let the quieter of the two best
men speak first.
Writing the Speech word for wordNow you have a plan, a structure and
hopefully some material, props and
stories from other people you’re ready to
make a start on writing the actual word-
for-word content.
Don’t think about delivering it as such until
you think you have your first final draft.
Practice and refine Once you’ve written something down you
should practice it alone. Stand in front of
a mirror, grab a comb as a microphone
and put a suit jacket on and really get into
the role. Have a start, middle and end
to what you’re saying in your mind and
time yourself, remember there’s people
speaking before or after you so keep it
as short and concise as possible whilst
still getting all your messages across.
Cut words down where possible, and
talk whilst holding up props or playing
slideshows to cut down the overall time
of your speech.
Have a pen handy to change the speech
as you go, any words you stumble over
should be reworded to make them flow
naturally.
Make sure you’re heard and don’t mumble,
but don’t shout, think about getting and
using a microphone if you’re not normally
able to talk at a range that could reach out
to your 100 or more people in a room,
not being heard is the same as delivering
a bad speech.
Think about the tone and the most
appropriate way to deliver your speech,
your tone should be of sincerity whilst

Delivering the speech on the day…First step, Mindset
Get into the right mind-set,
this isn’t a job interview, career
move or a sales pitch, and
‘hopefully’ you’re not trying to
influence anyone to buy anything
so everyone at the wedding is
positively willing you to do well in
your speech they’re not expecting
‘Peter Kay’ wit or a polished speech, they
do want warmth and fun about people
they all know and love. More importantly
think hard that equally, none of them
relish the thought of having to stand up
and address everyone, but this is the only
one time EVER that your audience will
want you to do well, will be in the right
frame of mind to laugh easily and will
need very little convincing to back you
and wish you well.
Here’s our tips to get you through the
delivery:
• Thinkpositive.
• Don’tdrinktoboostyourconfidence;it
will have the opposite effect.
• Don’tlookdownatthepapertoo
conveying any thanks, intimacy and
devotion when addressing your bride or
groom or daughter and friend but avoid
coming across too serious, your speech
should have gentle humour to keep your
guests engaged. The more thought you
put into ‘who’ you’re speaking to will also
help you understand what little anecdotes
and stories to tell within your speech.
• Playwithyourvoice,lookinamirror,
give yourself different characters,
move
around, be animated.
• Ensureyourpropswork,simulate

• Gettothepointwhereyouhave
memorised your speech and don’t
need your speech papers.
• CreateoneA4pieceofpaperwith
bullet points of what you’re saying on
for the day and for any freezes you
may have.
• Perfectyourspeechanddeliveritto

often, address the guests.
• SlowDown,don’trace,keepcoherent
• Breathdeeplyandfocusonyour

• Don’tshout,ifyoufeelshouting
coming, take a pause, or a drink of

• Ifyoudostartfeelingover-nervous,
scan the room as you speak, left, then
right, then middle and don’t look at
any one individual, look at the tops
of heads, it helps de-personalises
your speech.
And finally enjoy! Enjoy making people
smile, enjoy sharing your stories with
them and enjoy your contribution to the
big day. It and you will be great!

garden flowers with fresh green lady’s mantle, to set the colours

A s the days cool, the garden puts on a heart-warming
display as the leaves turn and flowers in burgundy,
orange and dusky pinks predominate. Good flowers to use
are hydrangeas, with fabulous blooms in dusky shades, which
can be expensive but go a long way. Or ask around as many people
havehydrangeas in their gardens! Chrysanthemumscome ina

dahlias should also be available. Try mixing berries and fruit with
your flowers to cut down on cost and to create a real autumnal feel.
A lovely flower to bring a touch of brighter colour is the nerine,
which has deeply divided flower heads in white, pink or red. Or
for larger arrangements consider adding trailing red stems of love-

Before the day1. Save the date cards: Essential if you are getting married on
a specific day, ie New Year’s Eve or abroad, so that your guests
don’t make other arrangements or know to save some annual
leave if you are getting married abroad. If your budget doesn’t
stretch to these, send a text or an email instead.
2. Invitations: When working out numbers needed, remember
you divide your total guest figure in half for the number of invites
required, as most people are in couples. There are a vast number
of different styles available, so contact a stationery company
early to narrow down which invitations match your theme and
your budget.
On the day3. Orders of Service: Whether you are getting married in
church or having a civil ceremony, it is a good idea to have an
Order of Service so that your guests can follow what’s going on
and it’s also a nice keepsake of the day. Be sure to check with
your vicar/priest that they do not offer this service free of charge.
4. Menus/Place setting cards/table plan/table numbers: Check with your venue if they offer any of the above free of
charge, as many do. If they don’t, then these items of stationery
can be bought to match your invitations.
5. Extras - such as wishing well or guest book: A post-
box or wishing well is a great idea if you have asked for money or
vouchers from your guests to keep them safe during the day. A
guest book or photo mount for your guests to sign is also a great
keepsake of your day. These can also be co-ordinated to match
your colour scheme.
6. Favours: It’s quite fashionable to make a donation to charity
instead of giving a specific favour. If you need a bespoke card
stating this to your guests (which can often be combined with a
place setting card), then speak to a stationery company for more
details.
After the day7. Thank you cards: Don’t forget the thank you cards! These
can be made bespoke by using a photograph of you from the
wedding and/or to correspond to the rest of your wedding
stationery. The inside can also be personalised to save on
writing them all out, which can be rather time consuming.

The role of the toastmasterWhat is a toastmaster?A toastmaster is a polished public speaker and keeper of order and
timelines at any important event and is a valuable addition to any
wedding, whether big or small. Sometimes also referred to as a master
of ceremonies and their role is to basically organise your day to run
seamlessly, put people at ease and ensure that all the correct formalities
and etiquettes are carried out. They will traditionally wear a smart coat
of the brightest red making themselves easily recognisable by everyone.
How do you know what to look for when choosing a toastmaster?Toastmasters have a highly trained mix of skills and personalities. A
sense of humour is vital, that they should have great organising skills goes
without saying but a sense of charisma, charm, look of professionalism
and the ability to make flawless public speeches is paramount.
Why would we use a toastmaster for our small wedding?Toastmaster’s know weddings inside and out, and chances are that they’ll
already know your venue and some of the staff as well. They will be
attending to everyone’s needs whilst looking for anything that could be
going wrong well before it has. They can eliminate speeches overrunning,
photographers missing shots and help catering staff with timings to serve
hot and unspoiled food at the right time.
Traditionally a good toastmaster has a fair few weddings under their
belt, a lifetime of experience and will also be able to give you good early
guidance on what works and what doesn’t and can be an absolute asset
to have on board well before the day itself. Some will even help with
speech writing and arrangements before the day.

Does anyone train or govern toastmasters?
Aguildofinternationalandprofessionaltoastmastersdoesexistalongwith
other UK associations who provide specialised training to toastmasters.
Booking and Costs
Wedding Market’s well recommended toastmaster already has 22 bookings
for 2012 so our advice is that you should look at booking a toastmaster at
the same time as you book your venue. Expect to pay somewhere in the
regionof£350foragoodtoastmasterfortheday.Don’tbeafraidtoask
what experiences they have and if they’re a member of the guild or an
association. On the day itself your toastmaster will have been working
tirelessly for you so you should make some provision for them when
finalising numbers with your caterers.

Wedding CAKEOtherthanyou,yourcakeisoneofthemostphotographedaspectsofyourday,andapartyoutrulysharewithyourguests,soit’simportanttogetthecakeyoureallywant.
Nicola Denbigh, owner of Little Cakes, has some tips on choosing your perfect wedding cake.
1 Have a look around to see what style of cake you like, but
don’t limit yourselves to a version of someone else’s! Inspiration
can come from your flowers, wedding stationery, details on the
bride’s dress, décor inside the venue… pretty much anything! It’s
always worth asking your cake designer to work with your ideas
and suggest some other designs for you.
2 Each cake designer has their own style, so if you want a
traditional cake, don’t go for one who specialises in contemporary
cakes, and vice versa.
3 Arrange to meet before you sign on the bottom line! It’s good
to make sure you’re on the same wavelength, to chat through
ideas and, most importantly, to taste the cakes.
4 If you have a budget in mind, don’t be afraid to say so!
The cost of your cake is determined by the size and level of
decoration, but if your dream cake isn’t within your budget, ask
your cake designer to work to your budget and come up with
other options in a similar style.
5 Always check to see if your cake designer charges for delivery
and set up, as this can dramatically increase the overall cost of
your cake.
6 Read through the contract before you sign. Also, make sure
your wedding insurance covers your cake, as well as the other
important aspects of your big day.e

Every Brides worst nightmare would be to wake up on their wedding day and feel their skin looks dry and drab, due to the stress of the build of the big day.
you want your hands and nails to match as everyone will be looking at your rings!
Monthly or twice monthly manicure treatments will maintain and condition your hands and nails. On the day you could opt for hard wearing nail polish or full nail extensions. Gel nails are the best way to ensure that you don’t chip a nail the morning of your day and will also last your honeymoon too.
Wedding Day PreparationEnsure a radiant look with these top tips from
To avoid this happening begin having regular facials from as early as 6 months before.
Get in to a regular skin care routine morning and night to ensure your skin won’t let you down and will look its absolute best with a lovely natural radiant healthy glow.
Now you have your Skin in its tip top condition that gives you the perfect canvas for your make up.
Trial make up should be done in advance to save you time and worry on the day and
so the artist will achieve the results that you envision. Keep the lipstick or gloss in your handbag or your brides maids handbag on the day for re-application– this is a minor detail which is often forgotten.

With direct links by train and car and a journey time of
under 30 minutes from Peterborough the House, its grounds
and the beautiful interior provided a stunning backdrop for
what was a relaxed, beautiful and informal day.
The Bride & GroomChrissie Warn (nee Thorn), aged 29, works for Cambridgeshire County Council as a Recruitment Administrator. We were married in April 2011 and we’re expecting our first child in April this year.
How did Ben Propose?Ben (33) proposed on my birthday in 2009, which was also our fifth anniversary. I woke up in the morning and there was a trail of rose petals from the bedroom, down the stairs and in to the living room
Hinchingbrook House
where there was a massive love heart of rose petals and a vase of daisies, which are my favourite flower. When I turned around Ben was on one knee behind me and he asked me to marry him. He didn’t have a ring, but whisked me away to Antwerp in Belgium, where he had made appointments with diamond specialists. I got to pick out my own diamond and the setting, which was really exciting.
Where did you get married?Hinchingbrooke House, Huntingdon, it was a civil ceremony and everything took place at the venue.
How many guests? We had about 80 during the day plus another 80 in the evening.
Why choose the venue? It was a beautiful building with large grounds, perfect for lawn games. It also offered excellent value for money and suited our needs perfectly, with plenty of room for guests to enjoy the space and grounds.
Who were your chosen suppliers? The dress, a beautiful tightly fitted lace number, came from The Taylor’s Cat in Cambridge. The staff were really friendly and
Getting Married at Easter seemed a perfect
way to celebrate with family and friends and in
2011 the marriage of Ben & Chrissie took place at
Hinchingbrooke House, Huntingdon.

Hinchingbrook House
provided excellent customer service. Chrissie’s mum made the cake, which was a simple lemon drizzle cake and decorated it too. A family friend took our photos. The rings came from Ernest Jones and the suits came from Moss Bros.
Where did you Honeymoon? We spent three weeks travelling across America via Amtrak. We started out in New York and ended up in Vegas. It was a really amazing journey. The scenery was just outstanding and the people were fantastic.
How did you decorate the venue? We didn’t decorate the rooms as the House is a 13th century building and already looked outstanding. Our flowers were yellow, cream and orange. The bridesmaid dresses were green, the flower girl dress was yellow. The groomsmen all wore matching colours, our centrepieces were similar colours, with mini eggs for favours and apples as name places.
What was your best memory of the day?Our first dance. We danced to Birdhouse in Your Soul by They Might Be Giants. It’s our favourite song and was just a lot of fun.
Would you change anything?I wouldn’t have changed anything. The day was just perfect, even if it was the hottest day of the year.
What the guests thoughtWe had a fabulous day at Ben & Chrissie’s wedding it was a beautiful venue and being someone who enjoys space and plenty of room to chill out or dance it was perfect. Lots of specialist diets were catered for and the food was outstanding being vegan for the day I wasn’t left feeling hungry after tucking into roasted vegetable coscous and salsa, whilst my other half enjoyed his lamb shank and all the trimmings. Lemon and lime pie followed along with a wonderful fruit salad drizzled in alcohol. As a mum of a 6 month old I was pleasantly surprised at the layout for my daughter and how easy it was to ensure she sat at the table also. The waiting staff were lovely and I was blown away by the venue a simple, beautiful wedding relaxed and very grand at the same time. And I have to say Chrissie’s dress was perfect for her elegant and intricate and very individual. A bit about Hinchingbrooke House, Huntingdon can be found at www.hhpac.co.ukBecky Twelvetree.

Normanton Church Normanton Church is a stunning venue that offers possibilities unsurpassed by any other. Steeped in history, you can break with conventional tradition whilst retaining the timeless elegance of architectural style. Having been deconsecrated in 1970, a style of venue unique in its design and water front location is available for civil ceremonies.
Its once doomed fate adds to the enchanting ambience of Normanton Church, which now stands a surviving treasure of the past. Rescued from the reservoir floor, the only thing this venue is flooded with, is light. The many windows not only illuminate
the arched interior of the venue, they offer picturesque views out across the water.
Exquisite beauty radiates in waves from this grade II listed building, built in the classical style. The church, originating from medieval times, was re-designed in 1826-9 by Thomas Cundy and his son, surveyors to the Grosvenor estate in Westminster.A unique atmosphere emanates from Normanton Church and it provides an ideal blank canvas for wedding decoration and a perfect backdrop for photographs. A Rutland icon,
Please note as the ceremony venue and registrars are separate entities, it is vital to ring and check that both Normanton Church and the Registrars are available for the same date and time before going through with any bookings. We work closely with our clients ensuring all negotiations are orchestrated flawlessly!
Normanton Church is stylistically evocative and truly a novel civil ceremony venue, guaranteed to create cherished memories doused in romanticism.
