Speak to our reception staff or your Health Insurer if you are unsure. Have you asked your doctor for an estimate of their fees? You should also ask about any other specialists likely to be involved in your care (eg anaesthetist, assistant), and how to get information about their fees. Has your doctor given instructions in regard to your medications prior to your procedure? Generally, you are able to take your regular medication as prescribed (with a little water), unless your doctor has told you otherwise. Please consult your doctor before taking any diabetic medication prior to your procedure. Day patients – have you organised for someone to pick you up and stay with you overnight? Advise our reception staff prior to your admission if you require an interpreter. Contact the hospital or your doctor if your condition changes and you have a cold/flu, respiratory type symptoms or open skin lesion or cut. Procedure time and fasting The hospital will advise you of your fasting and admission times via text message the day prior to your planned procedure, or on Friday should your procedure be scheduled for a Monday. Please also note that you will receive a phone call from us the day prior to your procedure to respond to COVID-19 screening questions. YOUR RECORDS Solid fasting from

ADULTS Fast from the advised time. You are able to drink clear fluids such as

water and black tea or coffee prior to your water fasting time.

CHILDREN SIX MONTHS AND OVER Fast from the advised time. Breast milk or formula and limited solid food may be given prior to the solid fasting time. Children are able to drink clear fluids prior to the water fasting time.

CHILDREN UNDER SIX MONTHS Fast from the advised time. Breast milk or formula may be given prior to the solid fasting time. Children are able to drink clear fluids prior to water fasting time.

Prescribed medications (as directed by your Surgeon/Proceduralist) may be

taken with a sip of water less than two hours prior to anaesthesia, unless otherwise directed.

Shower before coming to hospital.

Remove nail polish, jewellery and body piercings (wedding band is acceptable).

Gel nails are permitted but one nail must be gel free. Follow any other instructions provided by your doctor’s office.

Please present at our main reception area on arrival.

Do not eat anything from this time. Do not chew gum or suck lollies from this time.

Do not drink anything after this time.

Do not use deodorant, make-up, perfume or moisturiser.

Do not drink cloudy or milk-based drinks or alcohol prior to your water fasting time.

What to bring Relevant cards including Medicare, DVA, Pensioner, Private Health Insurance

and Ambulance membership.

Relevant documents if applicable, including Advanced Care Plan or Enduring Power of Attorney.

Payment method for out of pocket expenses (credit card / EFTPOS / cash). Clinical reports such as x-rays, scans, doctor’s letters and reports. Your physical aids such as walking aids, hearing aids and glasses (including

cases).

If staying overnight, please bring an overnight bag with comfortable clothing, enclosed, firm fitting shoes, toiletries, any prescribed medication (in their original packaging and clearly labelled) and CPAP machine if required.

Discharge Overnight patients are generally discharged at 10am. Please arrange transport

as your room will be booked for new patient admissions.

Day patients are encouraged to organise transport home and for an adult to accompany them overnight.

Collect all belongings, prescriptions, x-rays, discharge information and

instructions. Medical and carer certificate (if applicable).

In the first 24 hours after surgery, please DO NOT drive a motor vehicle, use any machinery or tools, make important decisions or drink alcohol. Seek your doctor’s advice about when you can drive.
