YOUR MONTHLY FIX OFENTERTAINMENT NEWS

KRASINSKI & KENDRICK SITTING IN A TREEIn his second directorial project, American actor John Krasinski – best known for portraying Jim Halpert on the US version of comedy sitcom The Offi ce – will take to the helm of a story about a dysfunctional family titled The Hollars. He will also star as the lead character John Hollar, who takes his girlfriend back to his hometown to meet his mother just before the latter’s scheduled brain surgery. The role of Hollar’s girlfriend has gone to talented comedienne Anna Kendrick, whom you’ve seen in Pitch Perfect, Drinking Buddies and as Bella’s eager pal Jessica in the Twilight Saga fi lms. Both Krasinski and Kendrick know how to deliver the laughs, and this one should be a quirky treat.

The Wachowskis have released a weeny clip from their massivley anticipated new fi lm Jupiter Ascending, which shows that part of the comedic style from their previous The Matrix fi lms will get a look-in: the technologically advanced character explains how one of his gizmos works to a slightly dumbfounded listener. In the short scene which premiered on American talk show Ellen, genetically engineered soldier Caine (Channing Tatum) tells cleaner-princess Jupiter (Mila Kunis) all about his gravity boots. Kunis shows Jupiter’s blank-faced awe pretty perfectly.

HIGH SCHOOL STAR JUMPS INTO THE FRAT HOUSEFormer High School Musical sensation Zac Efron has certainly come a long way from his squeaky clean Disney beginnings. He’s been a romantic lead in a Nicholas Sparks movie, and mixed with crims in The Paperboy alongside Matthew McConaughey. However, Efron’s latest

role will well and truly break his teen idol mould once and for all. In raunchy adult comedy Neighbors, Efron stars as the leader of a frat house who vows to have a party to end all

parties, much to the dismay of Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne, the couple next door. Beer isn’t the only thing that comes in a six pack in Neighbors, and Efron’s chiselled abs alone will be well worth the viewing for his fans. In the meantime, you can also catch Zac Efron in the funny and sexy romantic comedy Are We Offi cally Dating?, out June 12. (Check out our review on pg 16).

The poster for an animated adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s famous comical story The Canterville Ghost has been revealed, featuring a very expressive and painterly depiction of the tale’s main character, the ghost Sir Simon de Canterville. The project already has star cred attached in the form of voicework from

Stephen Fry (who plays Sir Simon) and Hugh Laurie, and several other names have just been announced including Toby Jones (The Hunger Games), Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), and Imelda Staunton (Malefi cent). The feature is currently in pre-production.

Television actress Michelle Forbes has been added to the cast of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 as Jackson, a seasoned and steely soldier who comes up against Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) as the war between the Districts and the Capitol intensifi es. Forbes has built her cred through appearances on a range of shows throughout the last 15 years including Homicide: Life on the Street, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Battlestar Galactica and as Maryann Forrester on True Blood, as well as a role in the criminally underrated Kevin Spacey fi lm Swimming with Sharks (1994). She’ll join other cast newbie Eugenie Bondurant who has just been announced to play Tigris, the former stylist for the Games who was fi red by President Snow.

The wildly popular ‘90s kids show Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers is to be turned into a big, lucrative feature fi lm by Lionsgate, who are partnering up with Power Rangers creators Saban Brands. In a little bit of background material for you (and please don’t read on if you don’t want your childhood memories spoiled with information about the mechanical guts of one of your favourite shows), the series originally merged stock footage from Japanese series Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger with inexpensively made scenes featuring American actors. We’re going to assume the fi lm won’t go the same route, or we’ll have more badly costumed monsters slow-motion stomping a miniature cityscape to look forward to.

POWER UP FOR NEW RANGERS MOVIE

MODERN STONEAGE FAMILY REVIVEDWill Ferrell and his co-writer Adam McKay are rebooting the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon The Flintstones, in what is to be a feature-length fi lm. Just a few years ago, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane began plans to reinvigorate the time-honoured animation but the scheme fell through when Fox president Kevin Reilly got hold of the pilot script and wasn’t completely impressed. Judging by the Ferrell-McKay track record (including Anchorman, Step Brothers and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby), this latest reiteration is tipped to be a dinosaur rib-sized success.

There’s a trailer out for the highly anticipated adaptation of the children’s classic book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. The fi lm stars Australian actor Ed Oxenbould as 11-year-old Alexander, who thinks he’s the failure of his family until in one 24 hour period he has to help each of his clan get through some pretty sticky situations – including a rather horrifying

encounter with an escaped kangaroo. The casting of Alexander’s family is great fun: Jennifer Garner as his mother and Steve Carell as his father, with Dylan Minnette and Kerris Dorsey as his bro and sis, respectively. The darling Oxenbould has previously starred in a number of short fi lms, as well as playing the role of David Vickers in Aussie series Puberty Blues.

Even though Grace was killed in the original Avatar fi lm, Sigourney Weaver has revealed that her character will be back in the three planned sequels through an as yet undetailed process of transformation. The actress has only said that it will be a challenge for her, and reiterated her comments from 2012 in which she expressed amazement at director James Cameron’s decision to fi lm all three of the fl icks at once. If anyone can do it, Cameron can.

SIGOURNEY’S GRACE TO RISE AGAIN

There’s a new Woody Allen fi lm coming out, and although it doesn’t have a title yet, its chief star-duo have been picked: Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone. Phoenix is fresh off his praise-laden turn as introverted, lovable Theodore Twombly in Spike Jonze’s Her, and Stone has racked up more than a few dollars playing Spidey’s love interest Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel. Meanwhile, 78-year-old Allen recently gave us the Cate Blanchett-led Blue Jasmine, which critics and audiences alike agreed was quite brilliant.

Detective stories in print and on screen command huge audiences, yet their video game potential still remains largely untapped. Enter Airtight Games who collaborated on Murdered: Soul Suspect with Square Enix stalwart Yosuke Shiakawa (Kingdom Hearts II; Dissidia: Final Fantasy). The premise follows Ronan O’Connor, an ex thug who turns his life around

when he becomes a streetwise cop. However, O’Connor is killed whilst investigating a break in and becomes trapped in a netherworld between the living and the dead. In order to pass through, O’Connor must solve his own murder (think L.A. Noire crossed with Ghost). O’Connor isn’t alone in this limbo and must balance detective work and side quests

whilst avoiding demons intent on devouring his soul. If you’re looking for something a little different with a strong narrative, this just might be your guy.

by Hollywood veteran Kevin Costner). Renner is a CIA operative, who fi nds himself concurrently twisted up within a major taskforce briefed with locating one of the world’s most dangerous terrorists, and taking care of his teenaged daughter Zooey (Hailee Steinfeld, Ender’s Game, True Grit) whom he has not deliberately spent time with in a number of years.

Zooey feels that her father has often chosen his work over taking care of her, even though she doesn’t know quite precisely what it is that Renner does, and she isn’t shy about bringing him to task – which Renner fi nds equally challenging to deal with as any of his top secret missions. McG sees the mental skirmishes Renner must navigate in balancing his work/family demands as central to the fi lm’s drive. “Ethan doesn’t know much about contemporary teenage culture like Twitter or what’s online,” says McG. “He is very analogue in a digital world. You have a guy that’s been out in the fi eld with a very, very strong sense of duty who has now come home to try to reconnect with his daughter and it’s emotional.”

When it came to casting Zooey, McG asserts that there was never any question about his fi rst selection. “Hailee was absolutely my fi rst and only choice. She is one of the most natural actors in her age group. She just completely owns the dialogue; she makes diffi cult scenes go down very easily. It’s not easy to emote and have it feel natural and she puts the audience at ease. That’s a gift that can’t be taught.” Steinfeld is as unrestrained in her praise of the director: “He’s with you every step of the way after every take,” the 17-year-old says. “He trusts me and that makes me feel really confi dent in myself.”

3 DAYS TO KILL

Balancing the weight of credible, energetic action with di stinctive humour is a skill director Joseph McGinty “McG” Nichol

is renowned for bringing to his projects; his previous features Charlie’s Angels, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and This Means War earned him a reputation for exploring the private side of the private eye, and he continues the tradition with new release 3 Days To Kill.

“I am fascinated by what happens to James Bond when he goes home,” the American says. “You never really see him off the clock.” In this espionage thriller, audiences will get to see both of those facets of our hero Ethan Renner (played

4. ROBBY AND MILEY STEWART, HANNAH MONTANA (2006-2011)Real-life father-daughter team Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus brought their relationship to the small screen in the crazily popular series about a teenage girl who moonlights as a pop star.

3. BRYAN AND KIM MILLS, TAKEN (2007)While staying in France, daughter Kim is kidnapped to be sold into sex slavery, and father Brian – a former CIA operative – takes on his most personal mission yet in retrieving her.

2. ATTICUS AND SCOUT FINCH, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (1962)Based on Harper Lee’s revered novel of the same name, this fi lm is widely recognised as one of the best ever made and reaped 10 times its budget when fi rst released.

1. ELIZABETH AND MR BENNET, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (2005)While Mrs. Bennet is anxious to marry off her fi ve daughters, Mr. Bennet is a calm old soul who knows that his intelligent, second-eldest Elizabeth will hold her own self in good lifelong stead.

While you’ll be familiar with the gilded resume of our star (Costner has performed in over 50 fi lms including The Bodyguard, Bull Durham, Tin Cup, JFK and The Postman, and has received multiple Academy Awards for his directorial debut Dances with Wolves amongst others), it’s the man’s dedication to McG’s methods which bear repeating and recognition. “I think people have become numb with computer generated effects,” the director explains. “I really like in-camera, physically correct action sequences. I think they have a grit and an energy that computers can’t replicate.” For the fi lm’s most complicated chase – which was fi lmed on the actual streets of Paris which are depicted – McG had to convince Costner that he could not do his own stunts, as there was a high likelihood the car would be fi nishing in the river. For this reason, McG only employs the best in the stunt arena.

“I’m very hands on with the fi ght choreographers,” he says. “I interview extensively the stunt guys to make sure they can take a punch. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the stunt people and I have a high demand. I really expect excellence and they need to be able to subject themselves to a great deal of physicality.”

Ultimately, McG’s mission with 3 Days to Kill is to remind us that while certain events or pressing matters may seem of the utmost importance, we have to remember to balance them with the personal, family things which we may sometimes take for granted. “I think that’s a theme that many people can relate to in the real world,” the director says of this sensitive harmony. “Many of us spend too much time on things that matter less than that which matters the most to us, and that’s what this fi lm is ultimately all about.”

aesthetics and technical accuracy. Costume designer Mary E. Vogt makes clear references to boxing’s golden age with the fi ghters’ fl oor-length robes and classic colours, and Stallone and de Niro were both hugely involved in the design of their characters’ garments. “They really

have historical value and are a true fl ashback, but in a classy way,” Stallone says. “A lot of love and intelligence went into making these costumes.”

As for the actual boxing, technical and mechanical expertise were meshed in unison including stunt work,

camera movements and reaction shots – but stunt coordinator Kevin Scott says planning began with the idea of portraying two boxers who had not been in the ring for 30 years. “The ingenious way Pete [Segal, director]and Sly developed

Rocky and the Raging Bull relive their fi sticuffs of yore, in this new comedy from the director of Anger Management and Get Smart.

Having both starred in popular, classic boxing movies of their own, Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone were

primed for the self-refl exive comedic elements of Grudge Match, in which they share headline billing. The fi lm tells the tale of two Pittsburgh boxers: Henry “Razor” Sharp (Stallone) and Billy “The Kid” McDonnen (De Niro). The pair go head to head in two

matches, one in which Razor triumphs and the other in which Kid emerges victorious. A highly antipicated third match is scheduled, but before it can go ahead, Razor announces his retirement, effectively ending interest in both sportsmen.

Years later the boxers meet up unexpectedly when they’re both asked to provide motion capture sequences for an upcoming video game, and after a brawl in the sound studio during which piles of delicate equipment is smashed to smithereens beneath their still-dexterous fi sts, the footage is uploaded to YouTube and goes viral. A ‘Grudge Match’ is announced, in which the old rivals will once again face each other to ultimately decide who is the champion.

Multiple focuses contributed to the fi nal fi ght of the fi lm, with equal importance placed on visual

this ten-round fi ght started with the psychology of these guys,” Scott says. “They are going to be rusty and mentally timid. There’s going to be missed punches, including ones that land badly. We needed to visually convey all these details which would happen if you hadn’t boxed in years and all of a sudden jumped into the ring for a title match.”

Producer Bill Gerber was particularly impressed with Stallone’s vitality and commitment to the role. “Stallone’s really a gladiator,” he says. “He wouldn’t let anything stop him. Even at rehearsals we’d say ‘Sly, save it for fi ght, save it for fi ght.’ He’d be jumping around, doing the footwork, throwing punches. “Dude, you’re 67, save it!’ But he just brought it more.”

De Niro was equally tough, refusing Scott’s suggestion of a stunt double in a sequence when Kid is knocked down. “He argued with me and said ‘No, I want to do it again,’ and the next time he went even bigger,” says Scott. “I don’t know any other

De Niro was equally tough, refusing

man that age who could dance around the ring like he did for fi ve days, throw and take punches, giving 150 percent until the fi nal bell.”

As for the rapport between the two big guns, there’s as much affability as a strong will to push themselves to the limit. “It’s a tough sport,” de Niro says. “[Stallone’s] got much more experience while I tend to not want to hit anybody, so I’m very careful. I was relying on him quite a bit and we worked well together.” Stallone was so sure he wanted de Niro’s punches to be genuine that he had special gloves created for his colleague, that could be used with true force while protecting de Niro’s hands. “If the camera’s angle is set, you can see the hits; they were all hits,” Stallone says. “They’re not lethal but they hurt after a while. Bob’s going for it, banging away at me and I know he’s hurting, ‘cause I’m hurting! And he says ‘Oh, I’m sorry,’ and I said ‘Don’t be sorry, knock me out!’ So he did it, and he did great.”

While there are a lot of reviewers lamenting the fact that this could be Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan’s last ever fi lm, the project remains another fun-fi lled plum in Chan’s prolifi c career; he’s clearly still interested in new ways of being creative and inventive with his material. Chinese Zodiac follows the intrepid adventurer Asian Fox (Chan), an Indiana Jones type who uses a series of whiz-bang gadgets to aid him on his mission: fi nding the missing bronze heads of a collection of zodiac busts, which were once the pride of China. Oliver Platt plays Lawrence, the infl uential entrepreneur who offers a generous reward for the return of the priceless items, and is fl anked by excellent performances from Sang-woo Kwon and Liao Fan. Twenty-seven years after the original tore up the box offi ce and delighted science fi ction and action fans around the world, Brazilian documentary and feature director José Padilha has taken on the RoboCop remake challenge. In the near future, the development of robotic technology enables an almost fatally wounded policeman (Joel Kinnaman) to be revived, with effi cient new powers which come at the cost of some of his emotions – particularly when the doctors begin tinkering around with his brain. Padilha wields his wand very well in layering effects and action scenes, while the immense physical risks and moral dangers of automated violence are core to his telling of the tale. The director has also collected a most excellent cast, giving the Swedish-American Kinnaman a deserved leg-up while also propelling our own Abbie Cornish further into Hollywood, alongside acting greats Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton and Samuel L. Jackson.

Set at either end of a 17 year span of time, Tokarev is a successful knit of Nicolas Cage’s two strengths: big action sequences and tender family vibes. The fi lm is named for a Russian pistol which Paul Maguire (Cage) and his two buddies in crime fi nd inside a van during a planned job. They also fi nd a bag of cash – so much dough, in fact, that they realise they can set themselves up for life, with a few savvy investments. They go their separate ways for a few years while the Russian mob hustle for their skins, and when the heat dies down they meet up again to split the money. Over the next several years, Paul marries, has a daughter and uses his share of the kitty to build a genuinely legal construction empire. He’s enjoying the fruits of plans well made when out of the blue he receives a message which is none too subtle, and threatens his business, his family and his future. A thrilling contribution to the current wave of father-daughter crime fl icks.

You’d think it was Fathers’ Day the way the fi lial tensions and triumphs between dad and daughter are being mined in fi lm at the moment, but the truth is it’s still a relatively untapped relationship dynamic when it comes to movies – in the past, things have centred on the same sex in a clear genre division (mother/daughter drama fl icks, father/son action fl icks). But like the Taken fi lms before it and Tokarev this month, 3 Days to Kill looks at the way growing up and the need to protect a child evolves when the stakes are dangerously high. Sensitive tough guy Ethan Renner is a CIA operative who has often neglected his homelife both to focus on treacherous missions but also to ensure his family never becomes entagled in his line of work. That careful separation is upended when Renner fi nds himself having to care for his opinionated teenage daughter (Hailee Steinfeld) while also undertaking one of his biggest and most perilous objectives to date.

ACTION

TKE08_14-15_Reviews_ACTION.indd 15 13/05/14 5:26 PM

It might seem a far-fetched premise, but such a guilty fantasy probably exists in the minds of hundreds of girls out there, and not just sisters. Zoe Kazan stars as identical twins Laurel and Audrey, the former being a shy, introverted girl who lives at home and the latter an adventurous career-minded city-dweller. After a horrifi c car crash involving the two girls, Audrey is killed - but in a mix-up, family and friends think it is Laurel who perished. The sensitive Laurel takes this as wishful thinking on their part, and decides to assume the role of her more gregarious sister. Kazan is excellent as the nervous but blooming Laurel, while Jake Johnson is the perfect love interest: goofy, funny and very attentive to his bashful new friend. Meanwhile Rob Livingston is shaping up to be quite the villain; just as excellent in arrogant parts as his previous stints as the affable hero.

Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone team up for a story which covers the life and times of rival boxers: Henry ‘Razor’ Sharp (Stallone) and Billy ‘The Kid’ McDonnen (De Niro) are sworn enemies who each won one fi ght against the other and then left the sport (the make-up on Stallone as Razor announces his retirement is really quite amazing). Thirty years on after a chance meeting results in an amusing, chaotic and messy fi ght and footage of the scuffl e goes viral on the web, the aging men agree to a ‘grudge match’ to settle the score. They begin their separate, rigorous training schedules, fi nding that although some are laughing at their efforts, many others are genuinely rooting for their journey rather than a defi nitive victory by one or the other. The verbal jabs between the two as their campaigns mount are hilarious, but Grudge Match also boasts a lot of compassion and affection for its characters.

Regardless of whether you like Zac Efron or not, it’s worth seeing this truly funny and smart buddy/romantic comedy for its support cast alone. Imogen Poots is one of the most talented young actresses out at the moment, and while she didn’t have the useful High School Musical beginnings of her co-star Efron, she matches his abilities and throws in extra charisma to boot. Meanwhile Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now) is leaping ahead of his peers in comedic and subtle dramatic capacities. The fi lm follows three guys who have a close friendship, and make a pact to stay single when one of them is dumped. However two of the dudes have to hide their intentions and feelings when they each meet the girl of their dreams. It’s funny how with these kinds of fi lms, the older the protagonists, the more juvenile the jokes. This one is totally clever and sweet.

The ever prolifi c Michael Douglas leads a staggering cast in Last Vegas, from American director Jon Turteltaub (Cool Runnings, While You Were Sleeping, Phenomenon, National Treasure). Douglas is Billy, a seemingly perpetual bachelor who collects together his childhood friends Paddy (Robert De Niro), Archie (Morgan Freeman), and Sam (Kevin Kline) for a good ol’ bash in Las Vegas on the eve of his wedding. Old vendettas between Billy and Paddy are reignited over the truth of a love triangle from the past; Archie and Sam must meanwhile do their best to keep the party rolling without anyone falling off the wagon. There are plenty of laughs as well as poignant moments, but the stand-outs here are Kline - who is effervescent and completely inventive - and Mary Steenburgen as Diana Boyle, the beautiful, mature and down-to-earth lounge singer whom the four men all fall over themselves to make friends with. Perceptive with its subject matter without being overly sentimental.

COMEDY

TKE08_16-17_Reviews_COMEDY.indd 17 13/05/14 4:10 PM

Brilliant casting drives this French-American crime thriller, which comes to us from French actor and director Guillaume Canet (who has been in a romantic partnership with one of Blood Ties’ best talents, Marion Cotillard, since 2007). Clive Owen stars as Chris, a former thug who has just left prison at 50 years old and wishes to live life nobly. Upon his release he is embraced by his brother (Billy Crudup) who tries to help set up something workable; welcoming him into his own home, establishing a reconnection with Chris’ ex-wife (Cotillard), and attempting to give him a chance. But Chris ends up slipping back into old criminal grooves, which strains to ripping point the blood ties binding the brothers together. Set in 1974, the fi lm is beautifully shot to mirror the era.

Colin Farrell gets mega dreamy in Winter’s Tale, a supernatural romance which doesn’t quite reach the successful majestic heights of the novel on which it is based (written by Mark Helprin in 1983). Having said that, there’s still plenty to enjoy here. The fi lm traverses around about 120 years, beginning in 1895 when a young couple is refused passage into Manhattan because they are suffering from consumption. Their baby son is not ill, but isn’t allowed entry without his guardians. The couple put him in a model sailboat, pop him in the river and pray he’ll be alright. The boy grows up into Peter Lake (Farrell), a gang member who has a change of heart and is aided in escaping his murderous benefactor by a mysterious white horse. The horse convinces him to raid one last home, but it’s a ruse to orchestrate the meeting of Peter and Beverly (Jessica Brown Findlay). The two fall in love, but after Beverly’s death Peter spends almost a hundred years fi nding a way to get back to her while desperately avoiding his past.

Named by myriad critics as their favourite fi lm of 2013, 12 Years a Slave is completely compelling all the way through, even though the parameters of its main character’s ordeal are basically named in its title. It doesn’t matter that we know Solomon Northup (Ejiofor), a freeborn African American living in New York in the 1840s, will fail in his fi rst attempts to escape the plantation he’s sold to; this fi lm is about hope and mental struggle, bolstered by the awful realities of the bodily demands of intensive physical work, not to mention severe punishment at the hands of the masters. The fi lm won Best Picture at the Academy Awards, with Chiwetel Ejiofor acknowledged with a nomination for Best Actor. However it was Lupita Nyong’o who snagged an individual Oscar, winning in the Best Supporting Actress for her role as Patsey, the young slave targeted by sadistic plantation owner Edwin Epps (Michael Fassbender). It’s very disturbing at times but so very worth the watch.

The world was horrifi ed when the truth about the practices in Abu Ghraib, a prison just west of Baghdad in Iraq, were revealed in 2004: military police personnel and CIA agents routinely committed various human rights violations (some too awful to comprehend) against Iraqi prisoners, some of whom were being held in indefi nite detention without trial. This fi lm is a fi ctitious retelling of how a soldier from smalltown America might come to believe that the atrocities he was perpetrating were morally right - not as an excuse for such actions, but as a study in power, instruction, and coercion within the military. While it isn’t as thorough an investigation as we’d hope something like the Abu Ghraib scandal would prompt, it’s still a well-paced and noble attempt at telling the story.

The pilot episode of crime drama Ray Donovan broke all of Showtime’s viewership records, and has continued to collect fans as its fascinating tale unfurled over the course of its fi rst season. It follows the titular character played by Liev Schrieber (Scream, The Manchurian Candidate, Movie 43), who works as a ‘fi xer’ for Goldman & Drexler, a very infl uential law fi rm. He represents the wealthy and famous, and as such his reputation and proof of discretion is paramount to his job. Both Schrieber and Voight were nominated for Golden Globes in 2013, the former in the Best Actor in a Television Drama Series category and the latter for Best Supporting Actor. Ray Donovan was also honoured with a Critics’ Choice Award, for Most Exciting New Series. It’s sure to have a healthy running length so get in now to prevent having to binge in a few seasons’ time.

If it wasn’t already ruined for you, Better Homes and Gardens is now completely and utterly unwatchable lest you start screaming when John Jarratt begins explaining how to build your own bird bath. He’s back as Mick Taylor, who neatly evaded law enforcement at the conclusion of the fi rst fi lm and manages to fi nd a couple more unsuspecting backpackers who have travelled to Wolfe Creek Crater. They’re rather more wary than the last three, which sends Mick into one of his tempers. The violence isn’t as gory but the fi lm moves much more quickly than the original, which means there’s more gore than before. Unfortunately it also means there’s less time spent on the personal relationships between the victims before they meet our ol’ mate, so we care less when the slaughtering starts. Still, spending more time from Mick’s point of view is enjoyable and you shouldn’t be surprised if the homicidal larrikin turns up again.
